Clothing Line Development If you ve always wanted to create your own clothing line, the Fashion Design program at MC College gives you the essential skills and knowledge you need to kick start this dream career. Through hands-on education and workshops with local designers, you ll learn everything from creating a brand identity to bringing your concept to life, and selling your creations in boutiques and online shops. Studio Experience From sketchpad to runway, the studio is where your creativity comes to life. You ll learn the core of fashion design: fundamentals of draping, pattern making and garment construction techniques, while gaining studio experience. You will work with professional production equipment like drafting tables, industrial sewing machines, sergers and pressing equipment. Your studio work will be project based including projects like design and production of skirts, tops, pants and dresses. You will get to work with photographers, models, make-up artists and hairstylists as you ll be spearheading your own photo shoots to showcase your creations. Local and International Internships Take your career to another level as you ll complete a four week internship with a fashion company of your choice. Gentle Fawn, Elie Saab, Zac Posen, Royal Winnipeg Ballet, Aritzia and DACE are a few of the amazing places that MC College students have interned at. From Milan to Vancouver, Toronto to New York or right at home in Edmonton and Winnipeg, you will have the opportunity to rub shoulders with industry icons, expand your knowledge, and gain work experience and insight into the fashion industry. Collection Development and Graduate Showcase Each design student will spend their final term developing and producing their graduating collection. Each graduate collection consists of eight complete outfits. Each collection is developed using industry standards and processes. Garment ideas are sketched and edited. Technical sketches and a full color catalogue including wholesale and retail pricing is produced. A production schedule is created with deadlines for pattern drafting and sewing. The final garments are produced. Each graduating collection is showcased in the MC College Graduate Fashion Show. In Edmonton, this exciting show has been the kick off to Western Canada Fashion Week for many years. In Winnipeg the show has been sold out each year since its inception. In both cities, the graduate fashion show garners important media and includes VIP guest like local designers, bloggers and fashionistas from the Edmonton and Winnipeg communities. Both shows are produced in full New York runway style.
