Dear Parents/Guardians and Year 12 student It may seem early to consider, but time flies so fast and many preparations are occurring behind the scenes to provide the graduating class of 2016 with meaningful and enjoyable end of year events, culminating with a very special Graduation ceremony on Tuesday 6 December in the College Sports Centre. Please note this is the confirmed date for Graduation 2016. I wanted to write to give you early notice, due to holiday planning dates you may be organising. We are certain that you will enjoy this important occasion and leave with shared memories of what will be a very special ceremony for our graduates, College families and staff. Given this will be the first time the ceremony will be held in our new and large Sports Centre we will be able to increase guest invitations to 5 tickets per family not including the graduating student. From July onwards, I will be meeting with all Year 12 students during Connect for a Principal and Year 12 connect time. I look forward to spending this time with our Year 12s to wish our graduates, as individuals, the very best in their final semester at the College. Every year I choose a verse for each graduating class and for this year I wanted to give the graduating class the verse, Be strong and Courageous. I saw many special qualities in our students during our Year 12 Retreat at the start of the year and I knew they would have much potential and capacity to make their valuable mark in society. In addition, their outstanding behaviour and mature social agility recognised at the Year 12 Ball, also bore testament to their good characters. As parents, I am sure you are very proud of your young adults. It is my hope that our students will know that they have grown with confidence and determination during their time at Lake Joondalup Baptist College and that they are ready to make their dreams and hopes the realities of their futures. I encourage our students to persevere and do their best as we draw closer every month to the WACE examinations and Graduation, but to remember that no-one is the total sum of their ATAR or Grades. Our students are worth more than that because their contributions to society with good character, courage and kindness will be part of their true success stories. As long as our students do their best in their examinations and assessments, they can ask no more of themselves.

Time has gone by very quickly since the beginning of the year (and if I may say so Year 12s, for your parents, time has also gone by too quickly since you first started school in Kindergarten). Ecclesiastes 3:1 tells us however that there is a time for everything and a season for every activity under heaven Enclosed with this letter is an important document from the events team, outlining the many details for the celebrations that are being prepared for our Year 12 graduates. I ask you to keep this document as your reference and guide for the ensuing events and action any necessary tasks. A copy of this information will also be available on the College website. We are proud of our Year 12 students! May they realise how talented and unique each of them are as individuals and may they know that the entire College staff and student body is in support of them as they work diligently towards the finishing line. God bless Dawn Clements College Principal K-12 20 May 2016

Lake Joondalup Baptist College Information for Year 12 families 2016 Please read the following important information which is contained in this document: Attendance Autographs Clearance process College Reference Final assessments Graduation Evening Tuesday 6 December Photographs Statement of Results Valedictory Day Tuesday 18 October WACE arrangements for students Important dates for your Calendar Attendance All Year 12 students are required to attend school every day until Tuesday 18 October. If returning to the College for revision sessions students are required to sign in at Student Reception and wear full school uniform. For the remainder of the school year, and in particular during the Year 12 farewell process, students are expected to display appropriate behaviour and should not be absent from school without sufficient cause. Autographs Students who wish to have others autograph their College uniform as a keepsake must bring a spare shirt or dress for this purpose. Under no circumstances should any part of the College uniform being worn by a student be marked or signed. Clearance process All Year 12 students should return any equipment, such as locker padlocks, sporting equipment, text books and outstanding library books before Friday 11 November. Any unresolved absentee explanations must also be rectified with the Attendance Officer. No Clearance Form is required, but Student Reception staff will be notified of the names of any students who have not returned outstanding items. College Reference Information has been provided to students about the process for organising a College Reference and this process should now be close to completion. College references will be given to each student in their Graduation Bag. Final assessments It is imperative that students remain focussed on their studies during these coming weeks until the WACE (Western Australian Certificate of Education) examinations are completed. The School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA) has scheduled WACE practical exams during the first week of the Term 3 school holidays. The LJBC Trial WACE exams will commence on Monday 3 October (please note this is during the second week of the school holidays), and conclude on Wednesday 12 October. The exam timetable will be distributed later in Term 3. The examination rules applicable to the Trial WACE exams are as for the School Curriculum and Standards Authority WACE exams. Any student absent from Trial WACE examinations for any reason other than severe illness (medical certificate, obtained on the day of absence, must be supplied) will forgo the examination mark. Following Trial WACE exams, normal timetable for Year 12 students resumes on Thursday 13 October and all students are expected to be in attendance. Students who are studying General courses will need to liaise with their teachers regarding final assessments. General courses will be assessed during lessons up to and including Monday 17 October. 20 May 2016 Page 1 of 4

Graduation Evening Tuesday 6 December All Year 12 students who complete the academic year will be invited to participate in the Graduation Ceremony. This is always a very special evening for students, parents and staff. It is a formal, academic occasion when student achievement will be acknowledged and each Year 12 student will be presented with a College Graduation Certificate. This year s Graduation Evening will be held in the Sports Centre. Following the tradition for this evening, Year 12 students will wear academic gowns and College graduation sashes (supplied by the College) and winter uniform, without the blazer. All students participating in the Graduation Ceremony must conform to normal College standards relating to uniform, footwear, hair styles, hair colours, piercings etc. Students should be aware of this in the lead up to Graduation Evening and not place themselves in the difficult position of not being able to participate in the Graduation Ceremony because of piercings, inappropriate hairstyles/colours etc. Admission to the Graduation Evening will be by ticket only. This year, we are able to offer up to five complimentary guest tickets per student. More information about when tickets will be available will be included in a second letter to families late in October. The Graduation Evening will be streamed live via the College website, so family and friends not in attendance will still be able to enjoy this very special event from home. Applications for additional tickets, should any be available, will be invited by completing a request form which will be supplied with the letter in October. Photographs will be taken by a professional photographer during the presentation of Awards and Graduation Certificates. The photographer will also be available during supper for family photos. Refreshments will be provided for graduating students and their guests after the Graduation Ceremony. Photographs A copy of the formal Year 12 cohort photograph (taken on 28 July) will be gifted to each Year 12 student in their Graduation Bag at the Graduation Evening. Individual photographs of all students wearing their Graduation gowns will be taken on Wednesday 10 August during period 1. The proofs of these photographs and the Graduation Evening photographs will be available for viewing after Graduation Evening. Information on ordering photos will be emailed after Graduation. Wednesday 17 August the traditional informal photograph of the whole cohort wearing their Class Jackets will be taken in the Graduation Walk. A complimentary copy of the photograph will be presented to each student at their Valedictory Assembly. Statement of Results At the end of October the College will mail a Statement of Results to all Year 12 students, setting out the grades which the College will submit to the School Curriculum and Standards Authority. It is important that you check these grades very carefully and contact Mrs Houghton, Dean of Studies, immediately if you have any concerns. Valedictory Day Tuesday 18 October Participation in organised events on Tuesday 18 October is optional for Year 12 students. Traditionally the day starts with a breakfast on the oval which is followed by the staff v students water event. After the water event, Year 12 students will change into their full summer uniform in readiness for the Valedictory Assembly. Students who do not wish to participate in the water event may choose to arrive at 9.30am and should report to Mr Downsborough in the Auditorium Foyer on arrival. The Valedictory Assembly is conducted by students from other year levels and represents the students farewell to the Class of 2016. Due to seating restrictions, this Assembly is for students only. Immediately following the Valedictory Assembly, teachers will host a morning tea for Year 12 students, after which students are expected to leave the College. 20 May 2016 Page 2 of 4

Valedictory Dinner The Valedictory Dinner for Year 12 students and their teachers will be held at Joondalup Resort on the evening of Tuesday 18 October. Attendance at the Valedictory Dinner is optional. The dinner will commence at 6.30pm and conclude at 9.30pm. It is always a delightful evening as College staff and Year 12 students enjoy time together and reminisce about their time capsules. Dress is smart casual and all College expectations about general behaviour apply. The cost of the Valedictory Dinner is to be paid by Direct Debit. Further information, including cost and banking details will be advised closer to the event date. Please note that all Valedictory events are for students only. We are unable to accommodate parents/other family members at these events, including the Valedictory Assembly. WACE arrangements for students 1. Ensure that you are familiar with your WACE timetable and that you arrive at the correct venue on time. Some examinations are held at venues other than LJBC. Students are personally responsible for knowing where their examinations are held and for arriving at the stated venue on time. 2. WACE Practical examinations are held at a number of venues around Perth and will take place during the first week of the Term 3 holidays. Students are personally responsible for their attendance at these venues. 3. Students must bring their 2016 Examination Slip with them to each WACE Examination. It is the student s duty to safeguard this slip carefully, as you cannot sit the examination without it. The College cannot provide any individual student identification for students on the day of an examination. 4. If a student becomes ill during the WACE exams and is unable to continue writing the exam, let the examination supervisor know immediately. Ensure that you complete a Sickness/Misadventure Application Form, which can be obtained from the supervisor. This also applies if you are too sick to attend an exam and subsequently miss the complete exam. Please also let the College know if you miss an exam for any reason. 5. Reminder: Please note that all students enrolled in ATAR courses are expected to sit the external WACE examination. There are no exemptions from sitting the compulsory external examination for students enrolled in an ATAR course. Year 12 Information Guides All Year 12 students are expected to be familiar with the details outlined in the School Curriculum and Standards Authority Year 12 Information Guide 2016, which were distributed to students at the end of Term 2.
