Surface Navy Association West Coast Symposium Thursday 22 August 2013 Pier 2 Naval Base San Diego
The Power of Open Architecture
Welcome to the Fifteenth Annual West Coast Symposium 2013 On behalf of the San Diego Chapter of the Surface Navy Association, it is my pleasure to warmly welcome you to our West Coast Symposium. Working with our SNA National partners, we have a phenomenal line-up of speakers this year. For the morning session, we will introduce an SNA San Diego unique concept, Project ATHENA, where we get innovative ideas to improve our Navy from junior officers here in San Diego. We will also hear from CAPT Rich Brown, RADM Tom Rowden, and CAPT Gene Black. I hope you enjoy breaks in our extensive exhibit area where some of the best industry professionals have gathered to showcase their talents as well as take a tour of one of our newest Littoral Combat Ships, USS INDEPENDENCE. Following lunch, we have afternoon programs from RDML Dave Steindl, CAPT Rich Brown, Navy Region Southwest Command Master Chief David Dearie and then conclude our afternoon program with VADM Tom Copeman. The Surface Warrior Join Up will immediately follow our program. We hope you enjoy the symposium and that you come away with an appreciation of the ongoing efforts by our leadership to improve the Surface Warfare community as we approach a bright but challenging future. Kevin Meyers Commander, USN President, San Diego Chapter Special Thanks to. Our guest speakers for making this a great event! The symposium would not be possible without the support of Surface Navy Association s National Headquarters and the San Diego Chapter Board of Directors. and to the staff of Naval Base San Diego, and in particular Pass & Decal, Security, and Base Operations departments as well as CAPT Winton Smith and LCDR George Baldwin.
