I rt is a four-year program designed to develop artistic ability, knowledge of art history, as well as personal style. Who should apply? ny artist interested in improving their skill, learning new techniques, & entering competitions should apply. Students of any level of experience are eligible. How much time does it take up? I art is a rigorous course that includes work in and outside the classroom. Skill builders, project planning and often project completion will be done at home. How can I be successful in I rt? We have students of many different artistic abilities; like all classes, good effort when completing assignments is the secret to success. Our most successful students see art as a hobby or passion (not homework). Guidelines for Portfolios: Your portfolio should contain ONLY your 5 strongest pieces that fit the following 5 categories * :. Observation Shows ability to communicate visually what is seen (x: drawing the book, not copying the art in it).. reativity & Imagination Shows originality, personality, and/or style.. hallenge &/or xperimentation Shows risk taking and growth beyond comfort zone.. Tips and suggestions: Please LL your NM and YOUR SHOOL S NM on your portfolio and all art pieces. rt can be any medium, technique or appropriate subject matter. In fact it is good to present a variety of pieces versus all the same. It is not necessary to mat pieces, but please don t fold them either. Incomplete art and/or sketchbook works can be used. ll works must be original, not copies from another source. rtwork may be photographed, if 3 or too large to fit in portfolio. Include a photograph of the entire work (2 from different angles if 3) and also include a detail, or close up, of the work. dditional work: If you d like to show more than the required 5 pieces (please O NOT RING THM) you may photograph them and print multiple projects to a page and leave in the back of the portfolio. While sketchbooks are an integral element of the I art program, the majority of the class is portfolio production bas ed; it is not a textbook class. I rt, like P rt, focuses on building a portfolio of works; the difference between the two is that I is not limited to a specific type of portfolio. In addition to submitting images of art for the test, I students set up an exhibition where they are interviewed by an outside evaluator.
