1 CENTURY COMMUNICATIONS COMMUNITY SCHOLARSHIP Century Communications has established a community Scholarship Fund to reward outstanding high school students who participate in community service and maintain high academic standards. Scholarship are available to high school seniors residing in Century communications service areas. More than seventy $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to deserving students across the country who have a winning mix of notable academic achievement and community service. To be eligible for the scholarship, the student must: " be in the top quarter of the class " achieve a minimum score of 900 on the SAT, 90 on the PSAT or 19 on the ACT " have completed one semester of community service " maintain a 3.0 GPA, B average or better on a 4 point scale. Century communications Corp. Operates over seventy cable television companies in twenty-five states and Puerto Rico. Winners will be chosen solely on merit and wit hout regard to geographic location. 2 CENTURY COMMUNICATIONS COMMUNITY SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY Applicants must: 1. Graduate from high school this year (2000) and be in good academic standing; 2. Intend to be a full-time undergraduate student at an accredited four(4)-year university or college anywhere in the United States; 3. Have completed at least one semester of community service; and 4. Reside in a Century Communications service area. Scholarship Criteria The following materials must be submitted to your school administrator or guidance counselor by the deadline date of January 14, No application will be considered unless properly complet ed and received prior to the deadline. Each applicant must satisfy all of the following requirements: 1. The Century Communications community Scholarship application must be fully completed; 2. Merit - " Must be in the top quarter of the class; " A minimum 3.0 GPA or a B average or better on a 4 point scale. " Achieve a minimum score of 900 on the SAT, 90 on the PSAT, Or 19 on the ACT; 3. Community service of at least one semester; 4. Two (2) letters of recommendation - One from the person for whom the applicant worked doing community service and one from an advisor, teacher or school counselor; 5. A 500 word essay on community service (see application for details); 6. Certified proof of class size and rank; 7. Certified evidence of your high school transcript and certified evidence of your senior class schedule; 8. Certified evidence of your official College entrance Exam Score; and 9. Evidence of acceptance by the university or college you have selected. If acceptance has not been determined, you will be asked to show proof before any award is disbursed.

3 SELECTION AND NOTIFICATION A preliminary scholarship committee will be comprised of local school officials and the General Manager of Century Communications. The scholarship committee will screen all applications and select three semi-finalists. The same committee will submit their three best applications to Century Communications corporate office for the final selection process of the awards. The final selection is at the sole discretion of Century Communications Corp. The award must be applied toward tuition only. If the applicant receives a full tuition non- Century scholarship, the Century Scholarship becomes null and void. The scholarship committee will then award another applicant. If prior to the school year a student changes from the four-year college/university to a two-year college, the scholarship is valid as long as the student is working toward a four-year degree. A notification letter will be mailed to all winners and school administrators. AWARD PRESENTATION During the Class Night or Commencement Exercise, the Century Communications General Manager will present the award to the student receiving the scholarship. SCHOLARSHIP DISBURSEMENT The funds will be disbursed prior to the start of the fall semester directly to the respective college financial aid office for the school year. Awards are non-renewable. It is the responsibility of the scholarship winner to submit a letter of scholarship acceptance, a copy of the university s acceptance letter, the student s social security number and the address of the college s financial aid office to: Century Communications Corp. 50 Locust Avenue New Canaan, CT DEADLINE All materials must be received by your school s guidance department by January 14, The guidance department must forward the applications to their local Century Communications office by Thursday, January 20, All semi-finalist applications must be at the corporate office on February 1, Incomplete applications will be disqualified.
