Grammar Unit 2 Week 4 Monday A possessive noun is a noun that shows who or what owns or has something. A singular possessive noun is a singular noun that shows ownership. Rory s lunch. (Rory is one person; the lunch belongs to her) Form a singular possessive noun by adding an apostrophe ( ) and an s to a singular noun. The tree s leaves are changing colors. The dog s collar is too tight. Alex s grandmother is coming to visit next week. A person s name or a collective noun that ends in s also has an apostrophe ( ) and an s in the possessive. Carlos s watch is really cool. The class s assignments are on the board.

Practice Fill in each blank in the sentence with a singular possessive noun. Then answer the question. 1. The two dogs belong to the girl. Whose dogs are they? They are the dogs. 2. Tuesday A plural possessive noun is a plural noun that shows ownership. To form the possessive of a plural noun that ends in s, add an apostrophe. The teachers books are in the auditorium. (The apostrophe shows that teachers is plural) To form the possessive of a plural noun that does not end in s, add an apostrophe and s. The children s toys are all very old. The men s suits are very expensive. Women s clothing is hard to shop for online.
