Celebrating 60 Years

Accreditation New Building Foundation 1956 Baccalaureate program expands to accept registered nurses (RNs) for completion of upper-division nursing major Partnership 1959 1956 - College is housed in old barracks near Zimmerman Library and the Yotoka Hall nursing lab College of Nursing is founded by Marion Fleck and Mary Jane Carter. Seventeen students enroll in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program First clinical site is established with Bernalillo County Indian Hospital and Bataan Memorial Methodist Hospital 1970 - Family nurse practitioner program is launched within School of Medicine. 1959 - BSN program receives full accreditation from the National League for Nursing College awards BSN degrees to its first graduating class of 12 students 1974 1967 - Martha Schwebach, New Mexico s first family nurse practitioner, enrolls in the UNM School of Medicine The Colleges of Nursing and Pharmacy move into a new building equipped with video capability in all teaching/learning spaces 1975 - A graduate program proposal is developed and guided through the University system by Dr. Marion Fleck 1960 Dean Eleanor M.
