In this most complete overview of the Paris of South America we will visit the glamorous neighborhoods of Recoleta and its most famous cemetery, Palermo, May Square and the Pink House, the Metropolitan Cathedral, the newest & trendiest Puerto Madero Area and many other emblematic buildings and palaces of unique architectural, historical, and cultural value. The visit would not be complete without the sights of the first settlements of the city of Buenos Aires. The pintoresque neighborhood of San Telmo, residence to the porteño aristocracy until the end of the XIX century and where the renowned antiques market is held every Sunday; Caminito Street, in the colorful, Italian immigrants neighborhood of La Boca. Day 17: Buenos Aires - - Santiago (B) This morning there is an early transferred to the airport to board your flight to Santiago, Chile. On arrival, you will be met and transferred to your hotel before enjoying a fully guided tour of the city. Santiago de Chile was founded in 1541 by the Spanish Conqueror Pedro de Valdivia who was sent by the conqueror of the Incas, Pizzaro, to establish a new capital in the fast growing Spanish Empire in the New World. Much of the core layout as designed by the master builder Pedro de Gamboa remains to this day. During the city tour you will visit key locations where the rich history of the city played out. Santiago city is the perfect blend between the old colonial style and modern architecture, characteristics that make the city on of the most interesting in South America. The tour begins with a visit to San Cristobal Hill. Rising 880 mts / 2640 ft over the city the second highest natural point in Santiago, you are offered panoramic views of the city. You then travel to the heart of the city and Plaza de Armas the spot from where the city has grown throughout the centuries. Each Latin city has a plaza de armas as when cities were founded the center was also were the armory and military base was established hence the name Plaza de Armas. Visit some of the more important buildings such as the Cathedral, the City Council, the Central Post Office and the National Historical Museum. You will also visit some the original
colonial neighborhoods such as Concha y Toro Square. Characterized by its cobbled streets and old mansions that reflect the elegance and richness of the early twentieth century the neighborhood grew to prominence between 1870 and 1876 with the influx of wealth as a result of mining and the discovery of Silver. Many Chileans achieved great wealth, including Enrique Concha y Toro founder of the famed winery. Then onto the eastern part of the city and the more modern side of Santiago before returning to your hotel. Day 18: Santiago - Vina del Mar - Valparaiso - Santiago (B) After breakfast, head for the coastline located 120 kilometers of Santiago. En-route, we visit two important cities, Viña del Mar and Valparaíso, a port city founded in the XVI century and declared World heritage by UNESCO. Along the way we ll stop by the Pablo Neruda museum, a famous Nobel Prize winning Chilean poet before continuing this beautiful route in front of the sea to arrive at the city of Viña del Mar, known as the Garden City, inspired by the French Riviera. Here will visit the Flower Clock and go through the Peru Avenue, with its traditional Casino and exquisite Hotel Del Mar. Finally we see a traditional Moai statue from the mysterious Easter Island before returning to Santiago where the rest of the evening is at leisure. Day 19: Santiago - Australia (B) This morning after breakfast you will be picked up from the hotel and transferred to the airport for your flight back to Australia.
