Second Announcement 8 th International Conference Innovative solutions for revitalisation of degraded areas ORGANISERS The Research and Supervisory Centre of Underground Mining Co. Ltd (CBiDGP), Lędziny, Institute for Ecology of Industrial Areas (IETU), Katowice, SUPPORTING PARTNERS HONORARY PATRONAGE Lena Kolarska Bobińska, Minister of Science and Higher Education Janusz Piechociński, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economy Maciej H. Grabowski, Minister of the Environment Kazimierz Karolczak, Vice Marshal of Silesian Voivodeship MEDIA PATRONAGE The National Competition for Research Studies on Revitalisation of Degraded Areas REVITARE Organiser Honorary patronage Sponsors www.revitare conf.pl
The thematic scope of the Conference covers all aspects of revitalisation of degraded areas. This year the key issue addressed during the Conference is revitalisation of brownfields and postindustrial facilities. Revitalisation of brownfields and degraded areas is one of the greatest challenges posed to the so called old industrial regions. One of the most important factors in the development of regions, which have undergone the process of industry restructuring, is a complex revitalisation of post industrial areas and facilities which remained after this process. Industrial areas and facilities have been an integral part of the landscape for many years. However, if regarded as a resource, they might become an asset, which could play a significant role in the strategy of sustainable development, both at a local and national level. Their proper functioning, however, requires a number of modern, innovative actions: environmental, spatialplanning, investment, construction as well as socio economic. Presentations of the awardees of the third edition of The National Competition for Research Studies on Revitalisation of Degraded Areas REVITARE will take place during the Conference. THE KEY NOTE SPEAKER Prof. Dr. Eng. Arch. Krzysztof Gasidło Silesian University of Technology, Gliwice, Department of Urban and Spatial Planning Professor of Silesian University of Technology, Head of the Department of Urban and Spatial Planning, Dean of the Faculty of Architecture in 2005 2012.
