1. INVITATION Dear Friends, On behalf of the Polish Canoe Federation and the Organizing Committee I would like to invite you to Poznan to take part in the ICF Dragon Boat World Championships. The World Championships will be held from 28 th to 31 st of August, 2014 at the Malta Regatta Course that has successfully hosted many international canoe events so far. In the Bulletin you will find the most important information about the event. If you have any questions or need more information, don t hesitate to contact us. We will be happy to assist you. 2. FACTS ABOUT POZNAN Poznan is one of the oldest and largest cities in Poland. It is the historical capital of the Wielkopolska Region, where the Polish State was born 1000 years ago. Today, Poznan is an important center for trade, services, industry, culture, higher education and science. It is also among the leading Polish cities in terms of its economy. Poznan is a place where the energy of the New Europe is merged with the civilization of the West. A metropolis with over half-a-million residents, Poznan is situated in the most economically developed region of Poland, closer to Berlin than to Warsaw. Poznanians can be counted on - they are well-educated, competent and welcoming. Today, the Poznan International Trade Fair Centre successfully hosts large international events including the 2008 United Nations IPCC climate conference and a 2010 meeting of the delegations of 46 ministers of culture from Europe and Asia, under the auspices of the Asia-Europe Meeting. The city's sports infrastructure allows for the organization of major international sporting events. In the opinion of experts, Poznan has one of the most beautifully located regatta courses in the world and hosts one of the largest street races in Europe - the Poznan Marathon. Poznan is also becoming famous around the football stadiums of Europe for the passion of the fans of Lech Poznan - the best supported club in Poland. 4
HOW TO GET TO POZNAN? Poznan is easy to reach by various modes of transportation. It is a railway hub where numerous regional, national and international lines converge. It offers coach services to Europe s and Poland s main cities and has its own international airport Poznan Lawica. By plane Lawica Airport is located 7 km from the city centre, in the vicinity of the route leading directly to the major city points and next to the road out of Poznan to Berlin and Warsaw. By train All trains coming to Poznan stop at Poznan Main Railway Station (Poznan Glowny). The Railway Station is located in the city centre, just next to the Poznan International Fair venue (Miedzynarodowe Targi Poznanskie). Bus PKS Station (Bus Transport Company) is located near the Poznan Main Railway Station and provides both domestic and international transport services. By car You can get to Poznań driving A2 motorway (a charge is payable for using it), national routes no. 92, 5 (east - west direction) and no. 11 (north - south). The city centre is covered by the Parking Zone. Fare is collected for each vehicle parked within the Zone. Drivers pay the parking fee in parking meters located along streets in the city centre. 3. VENUE OF THE COMPETITION The flagship of the City of Poznan is the Malta Regatta Course, considered one of the best and the prettiest in the World. Malta Lake is an artificial reservoir created in 1952 with the damming of the Cybina River. Popular Malta owes its name to the former owners of the land, The Knights Hospitallers, who here at the end of the twelfth century. The venue is located near the city centre and official hotels. ACCOMMODATION AND TRANSFER ACCOMMODATION FOR ICF JURY, ICF BOARD, ICF STAFF, ICF DRAGON BOAT COMMITTEE AND REFEREES The Organizer provides full board accommodation and car transportation for the ICF Jury, ICF Staff and Referees, according to confirmed agreement /number of persons and days/ free of charge. ACCOMMODATION TEAMS The cost of stay (full board, lodging, transportation Poznan airport / railway station - hotel and back, local transportation) depends on the standard of the hotel at which you will be staying. The Organizing Committee does not take any responsibility for any extra service of the hotel like mini bar, telephone, parking etc., these costs are directly collected by the hotel. Rooms are to be vacated by 12.00 hour on the day of the departure. 7. ACCREDITATION Participants who want to arrange their own accommodation will pay the accreditation fee: 75 - for athletes per person 40 - for all other members of team: technicals, staff members, executives, who benefit of all the services, without use of the boat The accreditation fee for participants who book their own accommodation includes the following services only: Supply of mineral water for free during competition days. Medical care at the venue. Security service at the venue. Fees for the use of the regatta course and its facilities, trailer parking, access to services and equipment provided. 8. PHOTOS FOR ACCREDITATION (PERSONAL BADGE) All participants must send ID photos for accreditation (personal badge) as soon as possible to: office@kayakpl.com Participants who do not send photos will have to wait longer for personal badge in the accreditation centre. 9. COPY OF PASSPORT/ ID CARD All participants of ICF DRAGON BOAT WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS must send a copy of passport/ id card before the competition to office@kayakpl.com PAYMENT DEADLINES The following deadlines apply for payment of participation fee and for accommodation: - July 01, 2014 deposit of 30% of total costs must be transferred to OC - July 20, 2014 deposit of 30% of total costs must be transferred to OC - August 04, 2014 deposit of 40% of total costs must be transferred to OC CANCELLATION TERMS - until July 20, 2014 no deduction - until August 04, 2014 30% of the participation fee will be deducted - after August 04, 2014 100% of the participation fee will be deducted 10
10. PARKING FACILITIES There is a parking place with enough space for the spectators, competitors and their equipment close to the venue. 11. INSURANCE AND MEDICAL CARE Insurance All participants are strongly advised to take out a medical insurance policy in their respective countries. Medical care The following medical services are available for all official participants of the above event: physician on duty, hospital and clinic assistance. A medical centre will operate at the regatta course with ambulance and first aid. All costs above the regular care to be covered by the medical insurance policy the Organizing Committee does not take responsibility for such expenditures. 12. VISA INFORMATION The Organizing Committee needs lists of the participants with necessary information (date of birth, passport number and expiry date, performed function /e.g. athlete, coach, team leader/, gender) from the national federations a.s.a.p.
