ARSAN KAUCUK has started manufacturing rubber technical products for various industries in Istanbul in1957. ARSAN KAUCUK, started production activities with manufacturing various technical products, pipe gaskets for drinking water and sewage applications in 1967 1968 and tire components for automotive industry in the year 1974 and performed first export with pipe gaskets to Iraq in 1985. ARSAN KAUCUK exports nearly 65% of its production to 35 countries worldwide. The exported products are usually gaskets for drinking and waste water pipes, expansion joints, tunnel segment gaskets and elastomeric bearings. Plant has been moved to the centre of Istanbul located in Dudullu Organized Industrial Zone at the end of 1997. The new plant has been established in a closed area of 9000 m² within a total area of 10000 m². 1
TUNNEL SEGMENT GASKETS ARSAN Segment Gaskets (ASG) have been brought up by our experienced technical staff who are experts in developing new compounds and products by using high elastomeric technologies. ARSAN Segment Gaskets (ASG) can be easily used in precast concrete, steel, iron cast and tunnel segments. ARSAN Segment Gaskets (ASG) protect segments of getting harmed during ground movements and damp the energy which is emerged. ASG makes the damping thanks to coherence of the compounds used in gaskets. ARSAN SEGMENT GASKETS ADVANTAGES Easy to fit, It provides an effective protection when the segments join. It supplies a protection against ground movements. Has been proven, certified and it is trust-worthy. It has a long life, and has resistance against chemical and micro-biologic factors. ARSAN KAUCUK is a project oriented company, and it produces and designs a wide range of products for customers demands. During production Arsan takes all the responsibilities for the environment. While deciding about which ASG to use in tunnels, there are so many factors that Arsan focuses on. Hydro-static pressure and groove dimensions are very important and they are the main fundamentals for making design. GAPS and DISPLACEMENTS While fitting the segment, there can be gaps and displacemenets between two segment gaskets. In order to provide water tightness, it is always necessary to take care of these factors. The main aim of segment gaskets (gaps and displacements) is to get resistance against hydro-static pressure and provide water tightness even in the worst conditions. 3
DESIGN OF ASG Arsan Kauçuk engineering department designs the tunnel segment profiles according to project requirements and customer specifications. The fundamental criteria for the correct design is water pressure resistance for a given groove at the connection of concrete segments. Before the serial production, the profile is simulated on the simulation software which enables us to confidently predict how our product will operate. After this development stage, the initial serial production is run and the whole tests are performed for the approval of the design. The most important feature of the segment gaskets is to provide water tightness. Underground water pressure is formed at laboratory, and tested by simulating the effect of the gaskets under pressure. This is the effective way to prove our customers that the gasket has resistance against the water pressure. In order to be sure about the gaskets certainty, test pressure always has to be bigger than the real underground water pressure. 4
HYDROPHILIC SEALS Arsan hydrophilic seals are developed to meet a demand for a better waterstop and it is based on an EPDM compound with swelling capabilities in three dimensionally which can contain water in molecular structure. This combined gasket has an excellent properties of EPDM polymers with swelling material. Hydrophilic EPDM sealing gasket gives double-insurance sealing to concrete segments. Once EPDM gasket is leaked, hydrophilic rubber strip will slowly expand by swelling water to prevent water in, playing a second waterproof role. Arsan Hydrophilic Seals can absorb continuous expansion pressure to maintain continuous water tightness, thus we can expect long time protection against leakage. Selection of proper EPDM swelling material for tunnel depends on the expansion pressures, expansion limits and mass change of the material. Arsan engineers are well qualified to design segment seals. OMEGA SEALS IN BORED TUNNELS To meet the need of miners working in compressed air and to eliminate the risk of collapse of tunnel face, tunnel boring machines (TBM) are developed for such purpose. In bored tunnels with precast segments which are placed together to form rings, creating an interlocking system which ensures a safe and secure concrete shell for the tunnels installed with waterproofing material as ASG. At the end of bored tunnels, connection between station should have the continuity. Arsan Omega Seals are supplied as a closed ring. The waterproofing of the joint is further reinforced by installing an omega seal, covered and installed with a steel plate as shown in below photo at the right corner. The expected lifetime of Arsan Omega seal is at least 100 years. The operating temperature is within 30 C and +80 C. Textile reinforcement material. 5
