windream in 64 Bit Mode 1 windream in 64 Bit Mode Notes on windream Installations on 64 Bit Systems The document at hand shortly describes the requirements and particularities that should be observed for windream installations on 64 bit systems and serves as a support for the installation and configuration. Note: The document will alert you to the required changes and possible consequences that should be considered for 64 bit installations, especially for migrations from 32 bit to 64 bit installations or the operating of mixed installations. It is no replacement for the detailed installation guides and documentations of the single windream components. These documentations are provided with the respective products. For notes and further information on the Microsoft operating systems, databases (SQL server and Oracle) and applications employed, please refer to the documentations of the respective producer. The possible operating systems for 64 bit (x64) installations, the available x64 installation routines and the possible combinations (mixed installations) will shortly be listed. For example, it is still possible to access a 64 bit windream server from a 32 bit (x86) windream client. In the following sections, we will shortly describe what to consider for a 64 bit installation, especially for a conversion of a 32 bit installation to a 64 bit installation (x86 windream server / client to x64 windream server / x86 /x64 client). General Notes on 64 Bit windream Installations Pure windream 64 bit installations can only be installed with the 64 bit components. By default, however, windream 64 bit installations are installed with 32 bit windream components in order to support 32 bit processes as well, especially for the switch of already running windream systems from 32 bit to 64 bit installations. However, various particularities depending on the operating system must be considered, since they can lead to compatibility problems. Scripts e.g. from the windream context menu or for indexing will always be executed in 64 bit mode in 64 bit installations, even if the 32 bit support has been installed. This is unproblematic if no DLLs are accessed which can only be run in a 32 bit environment. If DLLs are accessed from these scripts, they will always be executed in 64 bit mode on 64 bit systems. This is no windream-specific requirement, but results from the requirements of 64 bit Windows operating systems.

2 windream in 64 Bit Mode This means that if the scripts employed access programs or DLLs inoperable in 64 bit mode, this will lead to problems. In order to solve these problems, the corresponding DLLs must be adjusted to 64 bit systems or corresponding wrappers must be written. Considerations before a windream 64 Bit Installation Before switching to a 64 bit installation, we therefore urgently recommend to check where changes are required and how much effort (e.g. for tests or for the development of script adjustments) this will probably involve. Generally, all 32 bit applications (scripts, additional components, plugins, applications developed with the help of a windream SDK, etc.) must be tested for 64 bit compatibility before a switch (see also "Compatibility Problems of 64 bit Installations with 32 bit Applications and Implementations"). The following questions should be considered, especially before switching from an already existing windream 32 bit installation to a 64 bit installation: Which operating systems (64 bit / 32 bit) are used on the windream Server / the windream clients? Which connections are running or have to / should be connected? Are they 32-bit-operable and/or 64-bit-operable? Are scripts used (e.g. in the windream context menu or in the index dialog) and are they 64-bit-operable? Are DLLs accessed in the scripts? If yes, are they 32-bitoperable and/or 64-bit-operable? Shall programs be connected? Are they available in 64 bit? Which windream modules and solutions are used? Are they available as 64 bit applications or operable in 32 bit mode on 64 bit systems? Notes concerning the configuration and installation of the system For reasons of compatibility, a 32 bit Registry always exists along the 64 bit Registry in 64 bit Windows operating systems. In 64 bit Windows operating systems, a 32 bit registry always exists along the 64 bit registry. For windream 64 bit installations, too, the required configuration settings are administered in separate branches of the windream Registry (see also "Entries in the Windows Registry"). However, changes made on the windream Server in the 64 bit configuration, e.g. via the windream configuration dialog (WMConf.exe), will not be automatically transferred into the 32 bit configuration. In these cases, the changes must be made manually in

windream in 64 Bit Mode 3 the Windows Registry or via the 32 bit windream configuration dialog from the 32 bit program directory, if required. For running 32 bit windream clients with a 64 bit windream Server it is required for the 32 bit and the 64 bit TCP Service to be installed and configured. For this purpose, two ports are required. By default, these are port 534 (32 bit) and port 53464 (64 bit) (see also "32 Bit TCP Service for 32-Bit Clients"). During an installation with 32 bit support, all required 32 bit files will be installed in their own program directories under the installation directory (see also "Program Directories"). Operating Systems for windream 64 Bit Installations The possible operating systems for windream 64 bit installations are listed below. Only those requirements valid from windream version 5.0.0.4 have been considered. Additionally, the versions of the supported databases are listed. Further notes and detailed explanations of the system requirements can be found in the installation guide and in the files sysreg.txt of the respective windream components. Standard Client: x64 Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 x64 Windows Vista Business SP1, Ultimate SP1 x64 Windows 7 Terminalserver Client: x64 Windows Server 2003 SP2 x64 Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2 x64 Windows Server 2008 x64 Windows Server 2008 R2 Share Drive: x64 Windows Server 2003 SP2 x64 Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2 x64 Windows Server 2008 x64 Windows Server 2008 R2 windream Server: x64 Windows Server 2003 SP2 x64 Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2 x64 Windows Server 2008

windream in 64 Bit Mode 5 2) 64 bit windream Server with 32 bit connectivity and additional 32 bit TCP Service 3) with 32 bit connectivity if the windream Webportal has been installed on the windream Server (64 bit). Note: When installing a 64 bit windream server, you should always install the 32 bit connectivity as well (32 bit TCP service) to guarantee the access of 32 bit windream clients and other applications (e.g. scripts in the context menu or for indexing) in 32 bit mode. In any case, all 32 bit components should be tested before implementing the updated system. Please note that a 64 bit windream client cannot access a 32 bit windream server. The DCOM communication does work, but a 64 bit TCP service is required for the 64 bit VFS driver. Installation Routines for 64 Bit Installations Own setup routines are available for the 64 bit and 32 bit installations of the windream Standard Client, the Terminalserver Client and the windream Share Drive from windream version 5.0.0.4 (beta) forward. For the windream Server installation a setup is available from windream version 5.0.0.4 forward, which either executes the 32 bit installation or the 64 bit installation with optional 32 bit support (32 bit connectivity and 32 TCP Service), depending on the existing operating system. windream installation routines (64 Bit) windream Standard Client Client Setup from version 5.0.0.4 forward windream Terminalserver Client Client Setup from version 5.0.0.4 forward windream Share Drive Client Setup from Version 5.0.0.4 forward windream Server Server Setup from Version 5.0.0.4 forward windream Solo windream Proxy Server windream Webportal Currently unavailable Proxy Server Setup from version 5.0.0.4 forward Currently unavailable Table 3: Installation routines for 64 bit installations

6 windream in 64 Bit Mode Notes on the 64 Bit windream Client and Terminalserver Client Setup With the help of the 64 bit Client Setup, you can install the windream Standard Client or the windream Terminalserver Client or the windream share drive in 64 bit mode. For installations in 32 bit mode, please use the 32 bit Client Setup. The installation of the Standard Client and of the Terminalserver Client can be carried out interactively as well as silently. Notes on the windream 64 Bit Server Setup By default, the windream 64 bit server setup installs the windream Server in 32 bit mode. In order to install the 64 bit mode, select the corresponding option in the setup. Then you can choose whether the 32 bit connectivity and the 32 bit TCP Service shall be installed additionally. If you select the 64 bit installation with 32 bit support, the setup will install windream in 64 bit mode with the 64 bit TCP service (default: port 53464), the database and the windream 32 bit connectivity and the 32 bit TCP service (default: port 534). Note: In order to enable the access of 32 bit windream clients to the x64 windream server via the windream Webportal or via other 32 bit applications, 32 bit support MUST be installed. Notes on 64 Bit windream Solo Currently, no 64 bit installation routine is available for windream Solo. Also a switch from an x86 to a x64 windream Solo installation is not possible at this point of time. However, it is possible to install an x64 windream Server (with or without 32 bit connectivity) and an x64 windream Standard Client on one computer. In order to convert an existing 32 bit windream Solo installation, please uninstall the version (including the database and the filestore). Then, install an x64 windream Server (with or without 32 bit connectivity) and an x64 windream Standard Client. Notes on the 64 Bit windream Proxy Server The silent setup for the Proxy Server installation is not yet available at present; see also "Notes on the 64 Bit windream Server Setup".

windream in 64 Bit Mode 7 Notes on the 64 Bit windream Webportal No installation routine is available for the windream Webportal. However, an access with a 32 bit windream Webportal installation to a 64 bit windream Server is possible. For this purpose, 32 bit support (32 bit windream connectivity and TCP Service) must be installed. Please install a 32 bit windream Client and the 32 bit windream Webportal on a remote computer. Install the windream Server in 64 bit mode with 32 bit connectivity and 32 bit TCP Service (Port 534) on a local server. Then, install the windream Webportal and the IIS (in 32 bit mode). Notes on Uninstalling of the windream Server In order to uninstall the windream Server, the 32 bit modules and the 64 bit modules must be uninstalled. The single steps of procedure are described below: 1. Close all windream services (including the 32 bit and the 64 bit TCP Service). 2. Uninstall the windream Server, including the database and the filestore via the Windows System Control. You can also carry out the uninstallation "silently". You can find further information on this topic in file ReadMe.txt and in the installation guides of the corresponding windream components. Installing the windream Server in 64 Bit Mode Depending on the system requirements, the installation of the windream 64 bit Server on existing windream installations is either carried out as a new installation on a 64 bit Windows server or as an update installation (migration from a 32 bit windream Server to a 64 bit windream Server) on an existing 64 bit Windows server. For reasons of compatibility, 32 bit support should also be installed in any case. For installations on a new computer, please note that the computer name for the windream clients will change, if you are already using windream. In order to be able to access the new computer, you must either adjust the server name on the clients after finishing the installation, or make the new server known under the old name on the windream Server in DNS and set the entry ClientSeverAlias to the old server name (see also "Notes on Server Name and DNS").

8 windream in 64 Bit Mode windream Server in 64 Bit Mode with 32 Bit Support During an installation of windream in 64 bit mode with 32 bit support, the x64 as well as the x86 components (32 bit connectivity and 32 bit TCP Service) will be installed and registered. For the installation of the windream Server, this means that on the windream Server: two program directories will be installed, in which the program components will be saved in parallel: C:\Program Files and C:\Program Files(x86)(see also "Program Directories"), two parallel branches will always be created in the Windows Registry, e.g. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node (see also "Entries in the Windows Registry") and the 32 bit TCP Service (port 534) and the 64 bit TCP Service (port 53464) will be installed and configured (see also "32 Bit TCP Service for 32 Bit Clients"). Display of the Installed 32 Bit and 64 Bit Directories and Dlls with WMDiagxt With the help of the windream diagnosis tool, the installed 32 bit and 64 bit directories and Dlls can be displayed. The most current version of the tool can be downloaded via link WMDiagxt-Link from the program menu (command Start>Programs>windream). Program Directories During a 64 bit installation with 32 bit support, the files required for the respective modes will be installed in the above-mentioned installation directories in two parallel folder structures. By default, these are the program directories: C:\Program Files, e.g. C:\Programs for windream 64 bit components, and C:\Program Files (x86), e.g. C:\Programs (x86) for windream 32 bit components.

windream in 64 Bit Mode 9 Figure 1: Server Setup Program Directory for x64 and x86 components In order to adjust the 32 bit configuration, start e.g. the windream configuration (file WMConf.exe) or the thumbnail configuration tool (file WMThmbCf.exe) from the x86 program directory Entries in the Windows Registry During a 64 bit installation with 32 bit support, the required entries for both modes will be created in parallel and with the respective default values. Changes to the windream configuration, which can be made via the windream configuration (command windream Control Center>Configuration), will not automatically be adopted in the 32 bit configuration. They must be made manually. Entries under HKLM for windream 64 bit: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE for windream 32 bit: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Wow6432Node Important Note: Changes to the Registry in windream 64 bit Registry branch HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\A.I.S. GmbH\windream will not be automatically adopted into windream 32 bit Registry branch HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\A.I.S. GmbH\windream Example: The configurations of the 64 bit thumbnail service are set in the corresponding entries of the 64 bit windream Registry. However, in

10 windream in 64 Bit Mode order to enable thumbnail access from e.g. a local 32 bit windream Webportal, the corresponding configurations must also be made in the 32 bit branch of the windream Registry (e.g. via 32 bit WMThumbCf.exe). Entries under HKCU The HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software exists only once! Entries under HKCR The DCOM registration of InProcess Com modules, using the example of Connect module wmocnct.dll: x64 programs will search for this module under: [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Windream.WMConnect] [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID] x86 programs will search for this module under: [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Wow6432Node\Windream.WMConnect] [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Wow6432Node\C LSID] Notes on the De-Registration of Modules Please note that during a de-registration of either x86 or x64, both module registrations will always be removed. for example,[hkey_classes_root\windream.wmconnect] as well as [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Wow6432Node\Windream.WMConn ect]. Thus, with the de-registration of one module, the registration of the other is always destroyed as well. As a consequence, after registering the 32 bit connectivity on an x64 server, it CANNOT be de-registered again without destroying the complete windream installation. 32 Bit TCP Service for 32 Bit Clients In order for 32 bit standard windream clients (32 bit VFS driver) to be able to access the 64 bit windream Server, the 32 bit TCP Service must be installed and registered as well.

windream in 64 Bit Mode 11 If you install 32 bit support via the 64 bit windream Server Setup, the two services (the 64 bit TCP Service and the 32 bit TCP Service) will be installed via the setup and configured to the default ports 53464 and 534. I.e., in existing 32 bit installations, the 32 bit TCP Service will continue to use port 534 after an update to a 64 bit installation. Figure 2: Server Setup port configuration for x64 and x86 TCP-Service The setup will then automatically make the following settings for the TCP Service with the port entries configured in the setup: C:\Program Files\windream GmbH\windream\wmotcp.exe /service -port 53464; the second TCP Service (64 bit) is configured to port 53464. File windream TCP- Service.log.properties(under "C:\Program Files\windream GmbH\windream") for logging is copied into file "C:\Program Files\windream GmbH\windream\windream TCP-Service 53464.log.properties". In file windream TCP-Service 53464.log.properties the path of the logfile is adjusted: "C:\Program Files\windream GmbH\windream\Temp\windream TCP-Service 53464.log" In files startservices.bat and stopservices.bat the names for the 32 bit and for the 64 bit TCP Service are preset: "windream TCP-Service" and "windream TCP-Service 53464". Notes on Server Names and DNS If a windream server name changes (new server, server moved etc.), the windream Server Alias settings on the connected windream clients must be adjusted accordingly. In order to avoid this, you can make the new server known under the old name in DNS and set the entry ClientSeverAlias in the Registry to the old server name.

12 windream in 64 Bit Mode If a 32 bit windream server is replaced by a 64 bit windream server during a switch from 64 bit, the server name will change (e.g. from "OLDSERVER" to "NEWSERVER"). In order to enable access from the connected windream clients without having to change the Alias settings on all clients, configure the settings for the new server in DNS in such a way that it is known under the old name. Then, on the windream server in the 64 bit Registry under HKLM\SOFTWARE\A.I.S. GmbH\windream\3.6\Connection, set the entry "ClientServerAlias"="OLDSERVER". Then, no further changes to the configuration of the existing clients will be necessary. All further windream clients (32 bit / 64 bit) will then be configured to the server with the DNS name "OLDSERVER". x64 clients must use port 53464 and x86 clients must use port 534. Compatibility Problems of 64 Bit Installations with 32 Bit Applications and Implementations All 32 bit modules, applications, integrations, third party products etc. must be tested for their 64 bit compatibility. This concerns e.g. scripts and programs developed with the windream SDK. Whether an application or a process is running in 32 bit mode, can be recognized e.g. in the Windows Task Manager. The corresponding processes are marked with * 32 in the process name.

windream in 64 Bit Mode 13 Figure 3: Display of 32 bit processes in the Windows Task Manager We will now list some problems and software changes that may lead to problems. windream scripts windream scripts, e.g. in the windream context menu or for indexing in an index dialog accessing 32 bit DLLs (CreateObject), are not operable on 64 bit systems without having been adjusted to 64 bit. windream DocView changed thumbnail Since the imageenxlibrary used for JPG creation by windream DocView in the 32 bit version is not 64-bit-operable, the JPG creation (WMOThmb.dll) has been changed in the new version and replaced by an own JPG creation. This leads to changes in the display of JPG files. In order to solve problems concerning the display of JPG files created with the 32 bit version (especially image files like.tif), the JPG creation must be carried out again with the new version. However, it is also possible to use windream DocView in 32 bit mode, if the 32 bit windream connectivity is installed.

14 windream in 64 Bit Mode New DLL for mail creation and sending via the event service The library sevmail.ocx (32 bit only) used by the windream event service for the sending of mails via SMTP has been replaced by DLL WMOsmtp.dll. The configuration of the mail service can be carried out as usual via the parameters of a corresponding script (see example script sevmail.vbs). Thumbnail access from a local windream Webportal (32 bit only) If problems occur during thumbnail access from a local windream Webportal (32 bit only) after a switch to 64 bit, this can be due to the required thumbnail configuration only existing in the 64 bit registry and not in the 32 bit branch. If required, this must be changed manually via the 32 bit configuration tool WMThumbCf.exe from the 32 bit program directory. Problems during the access of 32 bit clients to 64 bit servers This may be due to the following reasons: windream 32 bit connectivity is not installed, or not installed completely; the 32 bit TCP Service is not installed or not configured correctly; the server name of the windream Server has changed (new 64 bit server). windream module in 32 bit mode windream BPM and the windream BPM custom tools are not operable as 64 bit applications. For the preview of documents, windream BPM requires windream DocView in 32 bit mode. It is therefore required to install 32 bit connectivity if windream BPM is used in a 64 bit windream installation, in order for the 32 bit libraries of windream DocView to be available. The windream module Word2Windream is not available in 64 bit mode (Microsoft Office applications until version Microsoft Office 2007 are only 32 bit operable). Note on Problem Solving All windream server services excluding the windream DMS Service can be registered as 32 bit services on 64 bit systems.
