How to make sure you receive all emails from the University of Edinburgh To ensure that any email from The University of Edinburgh - or any address you choose - is not automatically sent to your junk or trash folder, update your settings and spam filters accordingly with the help of this document. Please note that this is not an exhaustive list. We have covered the most popular email clients, but the procedures involved will vary with other providers. Hotmail 1. Select Options from the main Hotmail navigation bar: 2. Go to the Mail category and select Safe and blocked senders : 3. Add the domain ed.ac.uk and choose Add :
Outlook 1. On the main menu, click Actions : 2. Then select Junk E-mail then Junk E-mail Options : 3. Click the Safe Senders or Safe Recipients tab. Click Add : 4. In the Enter an email address or Internet domain name to be added to the list box, enter the domain: ed.ac.uk 5. Click OK.
AOL Open AOL and choose Mail & Spam Controls. There are several levels of filtering available: 1. Allows all email (default). 2. Allows mail only from other AOL members, blocking addresses from all other providers. 3. Allows mail only from people in your Buddy List and Address Book. 4. Blocks all email. 5. Allows email from all AOL and Internet addresses except those you specify on a 'black list' or alternatively, allowing mail only from the AOL and Internet addresses specified on a 'white list'. Note: While on this screen you should set the option Blocked mail should be to Delivered to the Spam Folder. You should check this folder now and again to check that email that you wish to receive is not being delivered to this folder. We recommend you choose either setting one ( Allow mail from all senders ) or three ( Allow mail only from people I know ), three being the preferred choice for ease of use and security. Therefore you will need to update what entries you are going to allow. 1. Choose Custom Sender List.
2. Choose Allow only the senders and domains listed below. 3. Enter ed.ac.uk and click [Add] and then [Save]. You have now successfully added a rule that will ensure all email that comes from the ed.ac.uk domain will be delivered to your inbox. You can still choose to block individual senders if you wish to do so.
Yahoo! To check if SpamGuard is on (the default), click on Bulk in the left navigation bar. Above the list of messages, if any, you will see a notice that says SpamGuard is ON or OFF. If SpamGuard is OFF, you should receive any mail from ed.ac.uk. However, you might want to consider turning it on. Click the text to the right that says Edit Settings to do so. (We ll talk you through how to enable it and still receive emails from the University.) With SpamGuard turned ON, most spam will go to your Bulk folder instead of your Inbox. SpamGuard Plus SpamGuard Plus is an advanced spam fighting system that is customised according to your individual preferences. You tell the filter what you want and what you don't and over time, this feature learns to deliver the mail appropriately. SpamGuard Plus is only available to Yahoo! Mail Plus subscribers. You train the filter by clicking Spam (in your Inbox) or Not spam (in your Bulk folder). If a message is directed incorrectly, clicking the appropriate button. Smart filtering is turned on by default for Mail Plus users. You can turn it off by changing the settings in the Spam Protection section of the Mail Options page. Apply a filter Customized filters automatically sort your incoming messages into folders you create according to rules you define. The benefit of filters is that you don't need to read through each message to decide where it goes. Let s create a filter so that messages from ed.ac.uk are automatically delivered to a personal folder called, for example, 'Uni'. 1. From the upper-right corner of your Inbox page, click Mail Options. 2. At the list of mail options, click Filters. 3. On the Filters page, click Add.
4. Enter the rules of the filter. For example: Any message that has ed.ac.uk in the header address is directed to your 'Uni' folder. 5. Click Add Filter and in the future those messages will automatically be sent to the folder you specified. You have now successfully added a rule that will ensure all email that comes from the ed.ac.uk domain will be delivered to your inbox. You can still choose to block individual senders if you wish to do so.
Gmail 1. Log into Gmail. 2. Click on Spam on the left side column. 3. Open or check any The University of Edinburgh emails in the Spam list. 4. Click the Not Spam button above the Spam listings. You have now successfully added a rule that will ensure all email that comes from the ed.ac.uk domain will be delivered to your inbox. You can still choose to block individual senders from the ed.ac.uk domain if you wish to do so.
