Meet the Head Coach Head Coach Leo Bush Leo Bush begins his first season as the head women s volleyball coach at Rhode Island College. Bush joins Rhode Island College after serving as the head girls volleyball coach at Coventry High School for nine seasons. During his tenure, Bush won a trio of R.I. Division I Girls Volleyball State Championships in 2011, 2012 and 2013, and also compiled four Division I South Division Championships. "I am very pleased to be joining the coaching staff at Rhode Island College, said Bush. After several memorable years working in the Coventry athletic program, I look forward to my new role, and most importantly, working with my new team. He was named the Words Unlimited Schoolgirl Coach of the Year in 2012 and the Rhode Island Volleyball Coaches Association (RIVCA) Coach of the Year in 2005, 2009, 2010 and 2012. Bush began his coaching career at Pilgrim High School as the head boys volleyball coach in 1998, before serving as the head coach of both the boys volleyball team and the baseball team for Oakers in 2001. He has held the title of head baseball coach for 12 seasons, while he spent three seasons as the head boys volleyball coach at Coventry. Bush capped off his coaching career with the boys as the 2003 Division I State Champions. This is Bush s second stint coaching at RIC, having served as an assistant baseball coach for the Anchormen in 1997. In addition to his coaching duties, Bush works in the Coventry Public School System as a Spanish teacher, a position he has held since 1996. Bush graduated from Stonehill College in 1996 with a bachelor s degree in foreign language. He was a two-time baseball team captain who was also named First Team All-Region, All-Northeast-10 and to the league s All-Academic Team. In addition, he was selected to play in the N.E. College Baseball All-Star Game as a senior and received the Gartland Award for his outstanding contributions to Stonehill athletics. He is single and currently resides in Warwick. 3

Meet the Assistant Coach Assistant Coach Sherri Heard Sherri Head begins her first season as the assistant women's volleyball coach. She assists Head Coach Leo Bush in all phases of the program including recruiting, scouting, administering practice and match coaching. "I am excited and looking forward to being back at my alma mater and becoming part of the athletic department at Rhode Island College, said Heard. I am looking forward to working with Coach Bush, as well as the rest of the players on the team. I hope we grow and develop the volleyball team into one of the top competitors in the Little East. I enjoyed playing here at RIC and cannot wait to begin the season. A former member of the Rhode Island College women s volleyball team, the Coventry, R.I. native closed out her career as an Anchorwoman having played in 484 games in 134 matches. She totaled 1,001 career kills (2.1/game), a.228 hitting percentage, 107 assists (.22/game), 58 service aces (.119), 159 digs (.33/ game) and 279 blocks (.58/game). She ranks fourth and is one of only four former players to eclipse the 1,000-kill milestone all-time at RIC. Heard is fifth in career blocks and ninth in hitting percentage. As a senior in 2007, she played in 114 games in 32 matches, totaling 318 kills (2.8/game), a.243 hitting percentage, 51 assists (.45/game), 57 digs (.50/game) and 75 blocks (.66/game). Heard was second on the team in kills, hitting percentage and blocks. As a junior in 2006, Heard played in 123 games in 33 matches totaling 286 kills (2.33/game), a.291 hitting percentage, 27 assists (.22/game), four service aces (.03/ game), 27 digs (.22/game) and 71 blocks (.58/game). Heard was named the Little East Conference Women s Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week once on the season. She was second on the team in kills, hitting percentage and blocks. As a sophomore in 2005, she played in 122 games in 36 matches. She had 169 kills (1.39/game), 23 assists (0.19/game), 37 digs (0.30/game) and 56 blocks (0.46/ game). As a freshman in 2004, Heard played in 125 games in 33 matches. She had 228 kills (1.82/game), a.211 hitting percentage, 54 service aces (0.43/game), six assists (0.05/game), 38 digs (.30/game) and 77 blocks (0.62/game). She was named the Little East Conference s Rookie of the Week twice on the season. Heard was a three-sport athlete who also competed for the RIC women s lacrosse team and the RIC women s basketball team. She closed out her lacrosse career having played in 37 games, starting 34 of them. She totaled 17 goals, five assists, 22 points, 44 shots, 55 ground balls, 40 draw controls and 20 caused turnovers in three seasons with the program. She finished her basketball career having played in 90 games, starting 24 of them. She totaled 438 points, 301 rebounds, 35 assists, 25 blocks and 69 steals during her career. Heard averaged 4.9 rebounds and 3.3 rebounds per game and owned a.763 (145-190) career free throw percentage, which ranks sixth all-time. Heard most recently served as an assistant women s volleyball coach at Johnson & Wales University from 2012-14. Prior to that, she was the varsity girls volleyball coach at Cumberland High School from 2010-12. Heard also spent two seasons as the junior varsity women s lacrosse coach from 2010-12 as well. Since 2010, Heard has worked as an elementary physical education teacher in the Cumberland Public School System. She is also employed by the Seven Hills Foundation in Rhode Island, where she serves as a Personal Assistance Supports and Services (PASS) worker and helps families of children with special health care needs with daily life skills. A 2004 graduate of Coventry High School, she earned her bachelor s degree in Health and Physical Education from Rhode Island College in the fall of 2009. 4
