CONNECT MONDAY September 12 2016 Check out our school website at cbe.ab.ca/ericharvie *BUS SCHEDULES/ROUTES AVAILABLE ON OUR SCHOOL WEBSITE WE ARE A PEANUT-AWARE SCHOOL, STRIVING TO BE AS PEANUT-FREE AS POSSIBLE! We have twelve students with potentially life-threatening allergies across all grades in our school. Please do not send your child with peanut butter to limit any possible contact with peanuts for our allergy-sensitive children. It is impossible to guarantee to be a peanut-free school given all the possibilities for cross-contamination between food sources, but we are trying our very best to be as aware and prepared as possible to ensure all our students are able to eat in a healthy, safe environment. To ensure your child s safety and security, families must register for bussing online through their CBE Accounts. Otherwise we have no way of knowing for sure which students should be travelling on the buses and it is impossible to

guarantee they are travelling on the right bus to the correct bus stop with the bus drivers if there is no record of the child being registered for the bus at all. This has been a significant issue through our first week since we still have many children showing up to travel on the bus who are not officially registered. If your child needs to take the bus to and from school, please register them online immediately thank you! 3) Huge APPRECIATIONS to the Tuscany & Eric Harvie School Councils for sponsoring the Welcome Back Breakfast last Thursday! This was a lovely way to start our new school year J J 4) Daily Physical Education instruction with Mr. Der begins for all Gr. 1 3 students this week, Mondays Thursdays J J 5) Music classes with Mrs. Coulson begin this week for all students J J 6) The Calgary Public Library Book Truck will begin visiting our school every Wednesday morning effective September 14/16! We are excited to share in this opportunity watch your teacher blogs in the coming weeks to find out when your child will visit the book truck! 7) We are in need of 2 3 parent volunteers to assist us for a few hours on Wednesday and Thursday mornings this week to stamp, sort and package literacy resources, anytime between 8:00 11:00 am. If you are able to help us out, please email Mrs. Bowles at tabowles.cbe.ab.ca Thank you! 8) Please return signed forms included in last week s information package to the school before September 23/16. Please pay school fees, cultural fees and lunchroom fees online through your CBE Account if possible. 9) Thank you for participating in our first fundraising Admazing Ticket Pack Campaign! All funds earned will go towards student programming at EHS since we are a new school, we do not have any funds in reserve to support additional programming, a vitally important learning component to support learning through the Arts in our school J J 10) We will begin posting a monthly school newsletter to the website for October 1/16. This will be our first ever EHS newsletter! All information shared so far regarding EHS can be found on our school website http://schools.cbe.ab.ca/b195/ 11) The first-ever Eric Harvie School Fall Open House will take place on Thursday, September 22/16. This event invites parents to attend brief information sessions in the gym about the school, upcoming events, communication, etc where all teachers will be introduced. These information sessions will be followed by approximately a 30-minute Open House time to meet teachers in classrooms, explore learning spaces with your children and become acquainted with the structure of our school-within-a-school. Sessions will be offered for Kindergarten families through the afternoon, and for all

parents (including Kindergarten families who choose to come in the evening) at three different times: 4:00 pm, 5:00 pm and 6:00 pm. Information will be coming home next week (the week beginning September 19/16) providing parents with directions for signing up for one of the Open House sessions that will be held September 22/16. We are excited to welcome parents into our classrooms and to have your children share their learning spaces and experiences with you! 12) The first EHS School Council Meeting will be held September 29/16, 7:00 pm in the Tuscany School Gathering Space. This is an excellent opportunity for parents to participate in decision-making about our school and to stay current with school updates please mark your calendars J J 3) Key School Updates Registering for transportation and Lunchroom program - please register ASAP for transportation through your My CBE Account at https://webapps.cbe.ab.ca/myaccount/account/logon?returnurl=%2fmyacco unt We will be offering a milk program where families can choose to purchase milk for lunch for students beginning in October. In the meantime, please do not send fruit juices, soda pop or other sweetened drinks for lunch. Water is always the best possible hydration source, and the leftover juice in boxes and containers that end up in our recycling bins are a huge attraction for fruit flies! Please note Ensure your child as a healthy lunch and snack for school every day J J All students need a pair of indoor runners, preferably with Velcro fasteners J J All students are welcome to bring a water bottle that will be theirs alone and can be refilled at school. These will be brought home weekly for a good clean! Hydration is an important part of learning J J Cultural Fees: The following cultural fees will be assigned for Eric Harvie students, and fee agreements will be included in the student information packages mentioned above: o Kindergarten: ISM fees: $15.00 Cultural fees: $25.00 (field trips, special events, etc) Total: $40.00 o Grades 1 3: ISM Fees: $30.00 Cultural fees: $40.00 (field trips, special events, etc) Total: $70.00

*Swimming fees are charged when swimming occurs and forms will be sent home at that time. We are tentatively booked for February/March 2017 at Shouldice Pool. Stay tuned for more information J J 4) ATTACHMENTS TO THIS MESSAGE: Kindergarten Friday Attendance Dates for AM & PM Classes EHS Calendar for 2016-17 5) Principal Blog The weekly principal blog can be found at this link: https://theviewfromhereleadership.blogspot.ca/ This week s topic is A Hopeful Story: Framing a Vision for Our School 6) INTERESTING DIGITAL LINKS FOR STUDENTS & PARENTS We will post links to key research articles or other articles/websites of interest to parents, students and teachers in Connect Mondays.
