Password Management FAQ Password management is technology that allows users to correct account issues without the assistance of the Technical Call Center due to the following: Forgotten password Locked account due to excessive password attempts Expired password Once a new password is set using this tool, it will by synced with your other system accounts enabling you to have one user name and password for these systems. 2. What passwords are being synced? MyAACC (College Portal) Student Network Account Home directory, network applications, instructional software o Lab machines Administrative Network Account (employees only) Home directory, OWA, Remote Access, Network Shares 3. What information will I need in order to setup my Password Management profile by providing answers to 5 challenge questions? You will need to know the following information: User Name (the name you use to log into an AACC computer or MyAACC) AACC ID# (aka. Student ID, Employee ID, Datatel ID) Birthdate 4. What information will I need in order to reset my password or change the answers to some or all of my challenge questions? You will need to know the following information: User Name (the name you use to log into an AACC computer or MyAACC) AACC ID# (aka. Student ID, Employee ID, Datatel ID) Birthdate Answers you provided to the challenge questions 5. What is the AACC ID# and where do I find it? The AACC ID# is a unique identifier for each student, faculty and staff member. The AACC ID# is also known as a Student, Employee or Datatel ID #. You can find it in the following places:
Bill Bill/schedule AACC ID Card (also known as Student ID or Employee ID card) MyAACC Self Services tab (Students: Access Personal Profile ; Employees: access Personal Profile ) Any registration counter w/ valid photo ID Contact Records and Registration (all contact information for the various locations is located at the end of this document). You can find your user name through the following: Bill/schedule Bill For new employees: contact your supervisor For existing employees: this is the name you use to log into an AACC computer or MyAACC; you can find it by logging onto MyAACC and accessing the Self Services menu; select Employees, select Personal Profile 7. How many digits does my AACC ID# require? The AACC ID# requires seven digits, which include leading zeros. 8. How do I access the Password Management tool? By going to www.aacc.edu/password. From any college computer running Windows 7 using the following special login and password. User name and password are case sensitive. Allow 2-3 minutes to access the password management tool. User Name = help\help Password = help 9. Why do I need to change my password? Changing passwords quarterly is a security best practice and is enforced to protect account information and college data. 10. What tips do you have for creating and remembering passwords? Try to create passwords that can be easily remembered. One way to do this is to create a password based on a song title, affirmation, or other phrase. The following are examples and are not to be used as actual passwords:

Such as: E equals 3, I equals 1, O equals 0 (zero), for equals 4, two equals 2, B equals 8, see or sea equals C, etc. Additionally, you should add a special character in the middle. Some examples of this are: Use R3d-j3llo instead of redjello (substitute the E's with 3's) Use B,cl1nt0n instead of bclinton (substitute I & L with 1's and O with zero) Use J0hn(80y) instead of johnboy (substitute the O's with zeros & the B with 8) 11. What are the password requirements? Passwords will only be accepted if they meet the following requirements: Minimum length of eight characters. Cannot contain your name (first or last) Cannot contain your user name. Must contain 3 of the 4 character types: o Upper case o Lower case o Numeric o Special characters located only on the top row of the keyboard above the numbers ` ~! @ # $ % ^ & * ( ) _ - + = Cannot be one of the previous 12 passwords you have used. 12. What do I do if my password is not accepted when creating a new password? The password management tool lists password requirements. If the password you enter is not accepted, the screen will display the criteria you need in order for your password to meet requirements and be accepted. 13. What do I do if I have forgotten my password? If you ve forgotten your password, you can use the password management tool to reset it from anywhere, 24/7. 14. What will happen if I don t change my password before it expires? You will need to use the Password Management tool in order to set a new password which will allow you to login.
15. Can I change my password before it expires? Yes, you can change your password at any time through the Password Management tool. 16. Can I reset/manage my password from a mobile device? Yes. Access this link which is best viewed on a mobile device to reset/manage your password. 17. What if I forget my answers to the challenge questions? Contact the Technical Call Center at 410-777-4357. 18. How do I change my answers to the challenge questions? Access the Password Management tool and provide the following information: User Name AACC ID # (aka. Student ID, Employee ID, Datatel ID) Birthdate Answers you provided to the challenge questions. After the identity verification process you can select Manage my challenge questions. You can then modify any of your answers and when complete press Save. 19. How often do I need to answer the challenge questions? You are required to provide the answers to the challenge questions any time you use the Password Management tool to manage either your password or challenge questions. 20. How did you select the challenge questions? A great deal of effort went into choosing good challenge questions. Good challenge questions should prompt users to provide answers that meet most if not all of the following criteria: Not be easily guessed or researched Doesn't change over time Memorable Definitive or simple All users can answer 21. Are there any restrictions on my challenge question answers? Yes, you can t provide the same answer for more than one question. 22. What suggestions do you have for creating answers? When providing answers to the challenge questions, we have the following advice:
Answers can be anything you like o You don t even have to answer the actual question as long as the answer is something you will remember Provide simple / short answers as these are easier to remember and type correctly Answers should be memorable o Sometimes the first thing that pops into your mind is the best No one else can see your answers so don t worry about how you answer them 23. Can anyone see the answers to my challenge questions? No, only you can see your answers to the challenge questions. 24. How many tries do I get to answer the verification questions correctly? You will have seven tries to correctly answer any verification questions such as the birthdate, user name, AACC ID#, or challenge questions. If you have a cumulative seven failed attempts, your Password Management Tool access will be locked for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes has elapsed, your access will be unlocked and you can attempt to verify yourself again through the Password Management Tool. If you cannot wait the 30 minutes to gain access to your account, please contact the Technical Call Center to assist you at 410-777-4357. 25. What do I do if I enter the wrong password when logging into an AACC computer and get locked out of my account? You have seven tries to enter the correct password. If you have seven failed attempts, your account will be locked for 30 minutes. If you cannot wait 30 minutes to gain access to your account, you may use a special login and password to access the Password Management tool which unlocks your account: From any college computer, use the following special login and password. o User Name = help\help o Password = help 26.
