Then you should see a series of windows pop up and disappear as your new USB device is being installed. This may take a while. Iv - All being well, you should now have your Mega Camera Manager shortcut on your desktop from which you can run the MegaCam Manager to access the contents of your MegaCam. b. Windows XP i - Please insert the Application Software CD-ROM supplied. If it does not auto-run then please click on your Windows Start button and then the Run option. Here you should give the command D:\SETUP.EXE (where D is the drive letter of your CD-ROM drive) and click OK. You should then be presented with the menu pictured right. ii - Please click the Mega Camera Manager button where you ll see the InstallShield load, and clicking Next will begin copying the files across before showing the Maintenance Complete screen. Please then click Finish and close any windows you have open to return to your Desk Top. iii - You should now attach your MegaCam. Initially you should receive Windows Logo Testing message titled Software Installation that you need to select Continue Anyway on. Then you should see two bubbles appear from your task bar for your new hardware called USB Composite Device and USB Device. When

they dissapear you will be left with a window called Found New Hardware Wizard where you should allow Windows to search for the driver automatically for your Mega Camera WDM Video Capture device. This may take a while. iv - Once the driver has been located you will see the has not passed Windows Logo Testing message again - as before you must click Continue Anyway to complete the installation. You may then be asked to insert your Mega Camera CD where you need to direct the the installation to the D:\DRIVER\ folder (where D is the drive letter of your CD-ROM drive) for the actual driver files themselves. v - You will then be prompted to go through the hardware wizard a second time for the Mega Camera WDM DSC I/O Driver where you should repeat steps iii and iv. The device installs twice as there are two seperate drivers for downloading stills and capturing video. vi - In some instances you may receive another bubble on your task bar informing you that the installation has been unsuccessful and that the device may not function correctly. In this instance please right-click on your My Computer icon and select Properties from the drop-down menu. In the new window please select the Hardware tab and click the Device Manager button to see a similar window to that pictured right. vii - On this window you should right-click the USB Device marked with the exclamation mark to access it s own properties. On the resulting window use the Driver tab to click the Update Driver button and repeat steps iii and iv once again. viii - All being well, you should now have your Mega Camera Manager shortcut on your desktop from which you can run the MegaCam Manager to access the contents of your MegaCam. 3. Using the MegaCam a. Available Functions When you use the function button on the back of the MegaCam you will cycle through the following modes and select the one you require with the shutter button on the top. Still Image Mode AVI Movie Self Timer Erase Last Erase All You will also be able to set each mode to either hi-resolution H ot low-resolution L when the icon is shown. In any of the Still Modes, hi-resolution can take 20 pictures at a resolution of 1248x960 or low-resolution can take 160 pictures of a resolution of 640x480. The AVI Movie Mode is able to take a 10 second clip (at 10 frames per second) at a resolution of 624x480 in hi-resolution or a 30 second clip at a resolution of 304x240 in low-resolution. The display also shows the battery level either good or critical on the right-hand-side and two arrows showing that the USB cable is attached to the camera (pointing right) and/or that the USB cable is attached to the PC (pointing left).

b. Downloading Your Photos When you run the Mega Camera Manager you have a button on the left-hand-side to switch between DSC or Live mode. 1. DSC Mode When you click the DSC Mode your screen is split into two halves. i - The top half is where you manipulate the contents of the camera. The first icon (pictured right) will connect to the camera to detect any available pictures from the camera s memory for download. You can transfer the pictures you like to your C:\My Album\ folder on your hard drive by selecting them and clicking the second icon to transfer them to the bottom half. The third icon allows you to convert a group of pictures into an AVI file if you wish to do so. The smaller pair of icons allow you to select all images in one go and delete the selected images. ii - The bottom half has similar options as the top half regarding image selection and deletion, but you can also click the envelope icon to automatically send an e-mail with the selected images attached and manage your albums (stored in C:\My Album\) by creating new folders and transferring images between them. 2. Live Mode When you click on the Live Mode button there will be a short delay before the majority of your screen becomes a direct depiction of whatever the camera is pointing at. In this mode you have five buttons down the left-hand-side. i - Video Record will give you a few options as to what quality of video you wish to record and where on your hard drive to store it before you can start recording the live view directly. ii - Snapshot will grab an extra image of what ever the camera is pointing at into your collection of stills images already stored in your C:\My Album\ folder on your hard drive. iii - Video Format will allow you to setup the quality of the capture currently appearing on your screen. You should use this to reduce the Output Size and/or Frame Rate on slower machines. iv - Setting will allow you to adjust the live view in a similar way to your television set with brightness and contrast settings among others. Any adjustments here may take a moment or two to update the display. v - Video Source will allow you to select which device you are capturing from. This would be used if you already had a capture device on your system that your PC might detect as default so you can manually select the MegaCam. 4. Using the Software You will find two CDs with your MegaCam, all of the following software will be on your Application Software CD except the Ulead Video Studio SE which has it s own CD. a. Ulead Photo Express 4.0 SE D:\ULEAD\MANUAL\ENGLISH\PE4_MANUAL.PDF (where D is the drive letter of your CD-ROM drive).

b. Ulead Photo Explorer 6.0 There is a full manual available for this software from the following web address: http://www.ulead.com/pex/documents.htm c. Ulead Cool 360 D:\COOL360\DOCUMENT\MANUAL\ENGLISH\C360.PDF (where D is the drive letter of your CD- ROM drive). d. Cyberlink Video Live Mail 4.0 There is a full manual available for this software along with a full FAQ section and technical support details from the following web address: http://www.gocyberlink.com/english/products/product_main.jsp?prodid=29 e. Microsoft Windows NetMeeting 3.01 This will give an error message when you try to install it on Windows XP because it is already incorporated into the operating system. To activate NetMeeting: 1. Click Start, then Run, and enter Conf. 2. Click OK. 3. In the NetMeeting Wizard, supply the necessary information, and then select the Put a shortcut to NetMeeting on my desktop (or on my Quick Launch bar) check box. NetMeeting should start and is now listed in the most frequently used programs list on the Start menu. f. Ulead Video Studio SE D:\Document\Manual\English\vstudio.pdf (where D is the drive letter of your CD-ROM drive). 5. Troubleshooting If your camera is not performing as dictated in this document of the installation has not completed for any reason, the following section should help. a. I get a Has Not Passed Windows Logo Testing error message. When Windows XP was under development Microsoft tested all pieces of hardware and software that were available at the time and made a small database in the operating system to tell you if it passed Logo Testing or not. All items developed since the release of Windows XP in October of 2001 will not have been pretested and will give up this error message. This device has been thoroughly tested by both Aiptek and ourselves and we can confirm it s compatibility with Windows XP.

b. I get a Camera Is Busy message when I try to download photos. i - Reboot your PC and immediately plug the camera in whereby the PC should detect two new devices; Mega Camera USB Camera and USB Device. Let the system search automatically and then accept the Logo Testing message if you re running Windows XP. ii - Please then right-click on your My Computer icon and select Properties in the drop-down menu. In the new window you should select the Device Manager tab (Hardware tab and Device Manager button on Windows 2000 and XP). You will now find two unknown devices under Other Devices and the new Mega Camera USB Camera under Universal Serial Bus. Right-click the first unknown device to Update Driver and again leave it to automatically search. After accepting the Logo Testing message (Windows XP only) you will have a new Imaging Device. iii - This is the fun bit; right-click the second unknown device to update the driver and follow the same process as before, but partway through it will detect the first device again and you ll have two hardware wizards searching simultaneously for Mega Camera WDM I/O Driver and USB. iv - Once they have finished you should have no more devices incorrectly configured and the Mega Camera Manager should work. If prompted during this process you can direct the faulty devices in the Device Manager to the D:\Driver\ folder for any missing driver files they ask for. c. I get a Camera Is Busy message even though the drivers are fine. In this case you probably have a more general connection problem. i - Please check that the camera is attached directly to the back of your PC and not through any break-out ports on the front or through a hub before trying to update the drivers once again. ii - You can also check that your USB ports are correctly configured by right-clicking My Computer and selecting Properties. This should list all the hardware components on your system, one of the entries should be Universal Serial Bus Controllers towards the bottom. In this category you should have something like the Root Hub and Host Controller both free of conflicts. If this is not the case then I would recommend you check the CD supplied with your motherboard (or manufacturer's web site) for the USB drivers and install them. iii - It is also possible that your USB ports are not enabled in the system BIOS. You should check the PC's documentation for details for checking if the USB ports are enabled in the BIOS as the method differs on a variety of PCs from different manufacturers. d. I m unable to print my photos. The photos are stored on your PC in your C:\My Album\ folder once downloaded from your MegaCam. From this location you can use the images in any software you choose for editing and printing purposes.
