Yearbook Tip #1: Getting Started GET ORGANIZED Like any other project you take on, it s important to be organized from beginning to end. Here are some best practices to get you started: Create folders for candid photos in your gallery Name your folders as per their contents, for example: holiday concert, school play, track and field day, pink shirt day, halloween etc. Add these photos throughout the year as they are taken to stay organized. Start assigning candid pages to your yearbook team members (if more than one person is working on the book). print out a copy of the Edge yearbook ladder for an easy to use page organization tool. TIP! You can password protect your yearbook files to allow only certain team members access. Click on FILE-->PROJECT MANAGEMENT -->PASSWORD PROTECT PROJECT school and sports photography
Yearbook Tip #2: editing pages HOW TO EDIT HOMEROOM PAGE TITLES Edge Imaging will enter your homeroom name at the top of each panel page with the default homeroom title (e.g. Mr. Smith s Grade Two Class ). If you d like to change that, here s how: 1. Change to simple mode In the panel editing window, switch to simple mode. Make sure to switch back to advanced when done (see screenshot below). 2. Select header font settings Located at the bottom of the panel editing window (see screenshot below). 3. Yearbook Tip #3: BACKGROUNDS There are thousands of free backgrounds, themes, clipart and word art available for you to use in your yearbook. Here s where to find them and how to add to your yearbook pages: 1. Gallery Click on the gallery buttton located near the top of your screen, in the row of small buttons beginning with images, buckets, search etc. 2. LP Art This side bar (located to the far right of your screen) also contains free clip art, backgrounds and frames. Simply drag and drop the image to use. Select the Lumapix Clip Art folder (see screenshot below) to access backgrounds, themes, clip art and cover templates. To add a background to a page, hold your mouse over the background and select set as background to lock in place.
Yearbook Tip #4: PAGE SPREADS The first thing to remember when creating a page spread, is that the first page of the spread must start on an even number. This will make sure the pages will open up side by side when the yearbook is printed. Above is an event collage spread across two pages. The first page is on the left and the second continues on the right. If you can see the two collage pages side-by-side then they are in the correct order.
Yearbook Tip #5: Grad pages If your yearbook includes your graduating class photos, you may want to add more to those pages, like bios, quotes, baby photos, etc. This may require additional page space and design, so it s important to plan your grad page layout well before your yearbook is due. Get your yearbook team together and decide what you need from your grad class based on how you decide your grad pages will look. Are you adding baby photos? Make sure you have everyone s photo well ahead of your yearbook due date in case you need to scan and crop them. Are you adding bios or quotes? Give your grads enough time to decide what they want to include in their biographles, as typing and proofreading will take more time. Give your students a grad bio due date a few weeks before your yearbook submission date. Are you adding extra candid photos for the grads? If you are including pages with photos from the grad school trip or graduation ceremony, make sure you plan accordingly to have enough room for these pages while staying within your original page count.

Yearbook Tip #8: final steps YOUR YEARBOOK IS DUE SOON! It s best to complete your yearbook with lots of time left over before your submission date in order to proprely proofread. Here are the most important things to look for: STUDENTS MISSING: Have you included a photo for each student in your school? If you don t have a photo for a student, you can still type in their name on their homeroom page to make sure everyone is included. NAMES MISSPELLED: Do any of your staff or students go by another name other than the one listed? Make sure everyone s photo matches with the name associated. STUDENTS IN INCORRECT HOMEROOMS: Make sure all students are included in their correct homerooms. If you are including your teachers along with their homeroom page, please make sure those are correct as well, or if they teach multiple classes, that they are included in both. FIRST PAGE OF THE YEARBOOK IS RIGHT SIDED: In order for your yearbook to print properly, the first page of your yearbook needs to be facing the right, and not part of a spread. To check this is correct, simply take a look in your pages window and make sure the small preview of page 1 is facing your right (see screenshot). [Fax] 1-866-707-8681
