Wet instruments are suitable for use at home, on headphones, or in acoustically-dry rooms, whereas dry instruments can be used in reverberant spaces such as churches. Both types of instruments are available in Hauptwerk format. As well as unification, most, if not all, eccentricities of the theatre organ are available to instruments, such as unification, second touch, toy counter effects, drum pedals, sustainers and much more. The transposer function allows transposition by +/-12 semi-tones, offering a quick and easy means to play in different keys, a useful feature when accompanying choirs or soloists. Piston Toolbars Hauptwerk s native piston toolbars offer the organist a wealth of flexibility for interfacing with many organ controls. Each piston function can be customized for triggering registration changes or activating menu functions and is controllable via MIDI or touchscreen. The Basic Edition of Hauptwerk allows a single toolbar per display page while the Advanced Edition allows up to 4 toolbars per display page. Release samples and multiple release samples Pipe Voicing Hauptwerk uses release samples recorded from the organ pipes, playing them when a key is released. Release samples can also record the natural decay of the pipe within the original room ambience, making it possible to capture that room ambience and spatial characteristics naturally within the instrument. In particular, historical organs can be captured and played virtually in the full majesty of their original acoustic environment. Hauptwerk also allows several release samples per pipe to be used so that when a pipe stops speaking the release sample is selected according to how long the pipe has been sounding. Many aspects of the sound can be adjusted for each pipe individually using an intuitive graphical interface in real-time. This voicing information is stored separately for each instrument and allows an instrument to be fine-tuned for the acoustic environment in which it will be played.
