7 D i g i g r a m INSTALL, UPDATE, UNINSTALL Installing the card Installing a VXpocket v2/440 Installing a VXpocket sound card is a very easy task: insert the card into any free PC-Card slot. The card is now installed, you may proceed to the driver installation. Please refer to the driver installation specific to your operating system. If you run a Plug and Play operating system, the Plug and Play wizard will automatically detect the card and start as the card is inserted for the first time. Installing a VX222v2 PCI bus card Installing a VX222v2 sound card is very easy: Open your computer, insert the card into a free PCI slot, close and restart the computer. The card is now installed, you may proceed to the driver s installation. Please refer to the driver installation specific to your operating system. If you run a Plug and Play operating system, the Plug and Play wizard will automatically detect the card. Installing the VXkit for MacOS General information The VXkit for MacOS shipped with your board or downloaded from the Internet supports: VXpocket series (v2 and 440) and VX222v2 soundcards Installing the VXkit for Mac OS X 10.1, 10.2 (Jaguar) and 10.3 (Panther) Insert the card. If the driver has been downloaded from our web site, double-click on the downloaded archive file containing the driver. Aladdin Stuffit will open it automatically and Mac OS will mount the disk image on your desktop. If the archive does not open automatically, please download and install Aladdin Stuffit from Otherwise, insert the VXkit CD-ROM. Use your familiar web browser to explore the contents of the CD-ROM. Go to the page pertaining to your sound card, then to the appropriate driver page. Click on the name of the Mac OS X driver; Mac OS will mount the disk image on your desktop. 7

8 VX Cards Double-click on the VXDriver disk image to open it: Open the Vxcontrol folder and drag the VXcontrol panel application to any place of your convenience on the computer s hard disk. 8

9 D i g i g r a m Open the folder named after your Digigram VX card and click Continue to launch the installer package. 9

10 You will be prompted to enter the administrator s login and password. VX Cards Read the information displayed in the Important Information window, and click Continue to confirm. 10

11 D i g i g r a m Select your destination hard drive, Continue. Click Install and follow the instructions. 11

12 VX Cards Click Restart to complete the installation. Removing the VXkit 1.11a for Mac OS X 10.1, 10.2, and 10.3 Mount the "VXDriver" disk image as described above. Open the DesInstaller folder. DesInstaller is a freeware utility by Nicolas Zinovieff. It is able to read the installation logs stored by the Mac OS pkg installer and use it to uninstall a particular software package. More information at: 12

13 D i g i g r a m Select the driver package you wish to uninstall and click on the Remove button You will be prompted to enter the administrator s login and password. Reboot the computer. The driver extension is now removed. Delete the VXcontrol panel application. 13

14 Updating the VXkit for Mac OS X 10.1, 10.2, and 10.3 Remove the driver as described above. Follow the installation instructions to install the new driver as described earlier. VX Cards Installing the VXkit for MacOS 9 Note: It is not necessary to disable the extensions to install the VX driver for MacOS. The Sound control panel must be copied from the Apple Extras folder into the System: Control Panel folder. Insert the VXkit CD-ROM. Use your familiar web browser to explore the contents of the CD- ROM. Go to your soundcard s page and then to its driver page. Click on the Mac driver s name to launch the installer. If the driver has been downloaded from the Digigram web site, it will need to be expanded prior to the driver s installation. Use Stuffit Expander to expand the files properly (Stuffit Expander is installed by default on new computers. If you do not have this expander, please download it from the following web site version 5.5 or higher required). Double click on the Installer icon and follow the instructions. As of driver version 2.6.0, the Digigram ASIO driver can be automatically installed for every ASIO compliant application. The installer will ask you to confirm this step. Restart the computer to complete the installation. The installed files are: VX driver (copied into System: Extensions) VX enabled (copied into System: Extensions) VX library (copied into System: Extensions) VX control (copied into System: Control Panel) Digigram VX ASIO Driver (copied into Digigram VX folder: ASIO) Copying the ASIO driver for MacOS 9 (VXpocket v2, 440) As of version 2.6.0, the above task can be completed automatically. However, if you install an ASIO compliant application after the VX driver, you will have to copy the VX ASIO driver into the corresponding ASIO folder of the application as described below. Upon completion of the VX driver installation, the ASIO driver for MacOS is copied into the Digigram VX f: ASIO folder located in the root folder. In order to have your ASIO compliant program properly load the driver, this file needs to be copied into the folder where all ASIO drivers are stored. This location is application dependent, usually it is called ASIO Drivers and is located in the folder where the program itself has been installed. For further information, please refer to the documentation of your program. Removing the VXkit for MacOS 9 To remove the VX driver for MacOS, remove the following files: VX driver (located in System: Extensions) VX enabler (located in System: Extensions) 14

15 D i g i g r a m VX library (located in System: Extensions) VX control (located in System: Control Panel) Digigram VX ASIO Driver (located in Digigram VX f: ASIO and in every ASIO drivers subfolder of the installed ASIO compliant software) VX settings (located in System: Preferences) and restart your computer. As MacOS is not a Plug and Play operating system, the card may be removed at any time. Installing the VXkit for Windows 9.x General information The VXkit 3.1c for Windows 9.x shipped with your board or downloaded from the Internet supports both VXpocket and VX222 cards. It includes an ASIO 2.0 driver, which is automatically installed. VXpocket 440 users must install the VXkit 5.00e for Windows 98SE and Millennium. Installing the VXkit for Windows 9.x As Windows 9.x are Plug and Play operating systems, they will automatically detect the card upon next start-up and will run the hardware installation wizard as follows (Keep in mind that some differences may occur depending on the various versions of Windows.). If the driver has been downloaded from our web site, it has to be expanded prior to the driver s installation. Double-click on the downloaded file to launch the auto-extracting utility. You can use the default destination location (Windows temporary folder) or select another. The wizard will detect the card and prompt for a new driver Click Next to start the driver installation. 15

16 VX Cards Select Display a list of all the drivers to select a specific driver and click Next. Select the Sound, video and game controllers category and click Next. Click on the Have Disk button. The following dialog box will be displayed. 16

17 D i g i g r a m Browse to the drive where the installation files are located (on the CD-Rom or in the auto-extract destination folder. On the CD-ROM, the driver is located in /download/win9x-winme<kit>, where <kit> is to be replaced with the version number of the VXkit you wish to install) and click OK. The wizard displays the appropriate driver. Click OK to continue. Click Next to start copying the driver files. Click Finish to finalize the driver installation. No reboot should be necessary at this time. Installing the ASIO driver for Windows 9.x The ASIO driver for Windows 95/98/ME is automatically installed during the VX driver installation process. No specific installation is required. The registry information is updated in order to have the ASIO compliant programs show the Digigram VX ASIO driver in the list of available ASIO drivers. Select the Digigram VX ASIO driver from the application program s specific audio I/O settings. 17

18 Updating the VXkit for Windows 9.x VX Cards To update the VX driver for Windows 95/98/ME (Note: some variations may occur owing to the different versions of Windows.): From the Start menu, click on the Settings: Control Panel command. Open the System control panel. Select the Device Manager tab. Open the Sound, video and game controllers category. Select the Digigram VX Pocket audio PC Card item. Click on the Properties button. Select the Driver tab. Click on the Update driver button. 18

19 D i g i g r a m Click Next. Select Display a list of all the drivers to select a specific driver and click Next. Click on the Have Disk button. The following dialog box will be displayed. Browse to the drive where the installation files are located (on the CD-Rom or in the auto-extract destination folder) and click OK. 19

Removing the VXkit for Windows 9.x To remove the VX driver for Windows 95/98/ME, make sure the card is present before starting the following procedure: From the Start menu, click on the Settings: Control Panel command. Open the Add/Remove Programs control panel. Select Digigram VXkit (remove only) in the list. Click on the Remove button. The card may now be removed. Installing the VXkit for Windows 2000/XP General information The VXkit 5.00e for Windows 2000/Xp shipped with your board or downloaded from the Internet supports Vxpocket v2, Vxpocket 440 and VX222v2 cards. It includes a Direct Sound driver, a Wave driver, an ASIO2 driver and an MTC (Midi Time Code driver). WARNING: On VXpocket v2/440, Record is not possible under Windows 2000 with the DirectSound driver (under the DirectSound standard, Microsoft s SDK does not allow implementing a Record function in a DirectSound driver for PC-Card cards). 20

21 D i g i g r a m Installing the Driver package (DirectSound, Wave & ASIO driver for Windows 2000/XP) Insert the card. The Windows Plug and Play wizard will detect the card and prompt for a driver. As the installation must be done using the provided setup program, click on Cancel to close the Windows Plug and Play wizard. If the driver has been downloaded from our web site, it has to be expanded prior to the driver s installation. Double-click on the downloaded file to launch the auto-extract utility. You can use the default destination location (Windows temporary folder) or select another one. The setup program will automatically run after the extraction. Otherwise, insert the VXkit CD-ROM. Use your familiar web browser to explore the contents of the CD-ROM. Go to your soundcard s page, then to its driver page. Click on the Windows 2000 /XP driver name to launch the installer: Follow the instructions and click on the Next button. Read the License agreement and Click Yes to confirm. 21

22 VX Cards Select the component you want to install in the following window: Then, click on the Next button. The wizard will display the following window: Click Yes. 22

23 D i g i g r a m The Microsoft warning concerning the Digital Signature of the Wave driver and of the MTC driver (if you have selected the component in the Select Components window) will be displayed. Click Yes. Click Yes again for the MTC (beta) driver Digital signature. Click on Finish to complete the installation and restart the computer. Removing the VX driver for Windows 2000/XP Go to Add/Remove Programs in the Windows Control Panel, select the Digigram VX Kit (remove only) and remove it. Follow the instructions of the InstallShield wizard. Updating the VX driver for Windows 2000/XP To update the VX driver for Windows 2000, first remove the installed driver as described above, then run the vxkit_5_00e_nt_2k_xp.exe to install the new driver. 23

24 VX Cards APPENDIX A: DRIVER HISTORY Release Notes for VX driver 1.0.x for Mac OS X WHAT S NEW? This version has been optimized for Mac OS X versions 10.2 & 10.3; users of 10.1.x are invited to refer to the archived drivers section. IMPROVEMENTS The CPU occupation and the latency have been optimized compared to the previous driver The minimum latency is now about 27 ms at 44.1Khz (selecting an IBL of 128 in the VX Control panel). NOTES Sleep mode is supported with the following restriction: no application must be using the card while going to sleep mode. Hot-plug of VXpocket cards is supported with the following restriction: no application must be using the card when it is ejected. If the input is set to digital while no signal is connected, it is in fact set to line, even if "Digital" is still displayed in VXcontrol. Parameters of VXcontrol are lost after a reboot. With Cubase or Nuendo, users must quit the application before switching the sample size (16/24bit) in VXcontrol. This will be investigated with Steinberg. With Cubase SX on VXpocket440, outputs 1, 2, 3 & 4 can t be used simultaneously. Works fine with the other applications. This will be investigated with Steinberg. With Peak, digital input of the VX cards cannot be selected when using the CoreAudio. No problem when using the HAL. LTC input of VXpocket cards cannot be supported inside Apple s Core Audio Release Notes for VX driver for Mac v2.8.3 What s new? The functionality remains unchanged. Improvements ASIO: settings are now properly stored and restored Known issues The refreshment of the VX control panel is visible. Modifying the internal buffer size becomes effective after rebooting the computer. 24
