POST GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN CLINICAL MUSIC THERAPY The Music Therapy Trust's Music Therapy Academy will be running its third year of the Post Graduate Diploma in Clinical Music Therapy commencing October 2011 in Delhi, India. This is India's first comprehensive training program in the field of Clinical Music Therapy. It will run as a part-time course over two years and a board certified Clinical Music Therapist from the US will be the Course Tutor. WHAT IS CLINICAL MUSIC THERAPY? Music Therapy is an internationally recognised health care profession in which the therapist works to help beneficiaries overcome identified life challenges. Well established training and certification processes are situated in the US, UK, Canada and Australia, among many others. problems. A person who completes the approved Clinical Music Therapy training programs is eligible to practice as a Music Therapist in a clinical setting and can work in hospitals, NGOs and other settings. MUSIC THERAPY IN INDIA Although Clinical Music Therapy in India is in a growing stage, the future is promising. Formed in 2005, The Music Therapy Trust in India is a sister charity with Otakar Kraus Music Trust, which has been providing Music Therapy in the UK for more than 20 years. Today, the Music Therapy Trust is providing a range of Music Therapy services and educational programs in India. Through a partnership with Mewsic A Brett Lee Foundation, Music Therapy is expanding across the country, and you can play an integral role in developing the profession by completing the course and working with us to expand the reach and impact of our work. COURSE OUTLINE DURATION: 2 years, Part Time TIMINGS: The course will run 2 weekday evenings and 2 weekends per month. POST GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN CLINICAL MUSIC THERAPY DURATION: 2 years, Part Time

The Post Graduate Diploma in Clinical Music Therapy has been developed by some of the world's leading Clinical Music Therapists and provides a world class qualification in Clinical Music Therapy covering the following subjects: Trauma and Disaster Relief Oncology, HIV and Palliative Care Mental Health Children/Adults with Special Needs (autism, CP, Developmental Disorders) Marginalized Communities Socially and Economically Disadvantaged Rehabilitation CURRICULUM & DELIVERY The curriculum of the training program involves detailed studies of Music Therapy theories, approaches and methods, emphasising practical clinical training supported by the Tutor and other professionals. The course provides detailed theoretical and practical knowledge of the different clinical Music Therapy interventions and methods used in clinical settings. Additionally outside lecturers will provide learning in areas including psychology, psychotherapy, counselling, rehabilitation, other Arts' Therapies, Family Therapy. The course is highly academic and delivered in the medium of English. Students will be required to complete various different practical and written assignments. There will be written and practical assignments. In addition, students will provide supervised services at several placements as part of their training, e.g. at hospitals, NGOs and care homes as arranged by The Music Therapy Trust in Delhi. WHO ARE THE COURSE LECTURERS? Dr. Margaret Lobo - Founder and Mentor Dr. Margaret Lobo, FRSA, is the founder and Director of The Music Therapy Trust India. She qualified at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in 1987, has a Department of Health approved Diploma in Music Therapy and is a member of the Association of Professional Music Therapists (APMT). In 2010 Margaret was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by Middlesex University for her major contribution to the community in the UK, India & Nepal in the field of Health and Social Sciences. Margaret is also one of the named mentors for Inspirational Women from around the World and in 2003 was nominated for the Beacon prize for her philanthropic work. Her endeavours in the UK and India were also recognised in 2007 by the award of a Fellowship from the Royal Society of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce (FRSA). Dr. Lucanne Magill - Course Tutor Dr. Lucanne Magill, LCAT, MT-BC, MTA, is the Course Tutor and International Internship Coordinator for The Music Therapy Trust, India. She was formerly Assistant Professor and Coordinator, Music Therapy, University of Windsor, Canada and Adjunct faculty, New York University and Temple University. She has been working as a Music Therapist with patients and families, all ages and stages of illness, in oncology settings since 1973. She lectures internationally, conducts research, provides undergraduate and graduate Music Therapy training and has published extensively on topics relating to Music Therapy, integrative oncology, palliative medicine and family care. She currently serves as Chair, Education and Training Commission, World Federation of Music Therapy, and on the advisory board for the U.N.: ICCC Music as a Natural Resource Compendium. She is on the Editorial Board for Voices: A World Forum for Music Therapy and the Journal of Arts and Health. Somesh Purey, IPGDCMT - Tutor Assistant Course Mr. Somesh Purey [IPGDMT], is a qualified Clinical Music Therapist, who graduated from the TMTT PGD Training Program in 2008. Somesh, a professional Tabla and Percussion player, has performed classical, light classical and spiritual music programs in India and the USA for more than 20 years. Somesh now works for the Music Therapy Trust as a Clinical Music Therapist, educator and workshop facilitator. He works with a wide range of clients, including children and teenagers with special needs and is pioneering some of the new projects with young people and street children that the Music Therapy Trust is conducting. WHAT JOB CAN I GET DOING MUSIC THERAPY? After completion of this Course, students will be trained to work as qualified clinical music therapists. They will be prepared to work in hospitals, health care centres, schools and treatment programs. Music therapists work with clients with physical, developmental and mental health challenges as well as patients with cancer, HIV and life threatening illnesses. They also work with children and families living in underprivileged and marginalized conditions. They are also equipped to support and contribute to community rehabilitation programs and with people facing trauma, crises and disasters of any kind.
