Personalization this is going to be your lifetime desktop make it personal! Let s get started 3

A Quick Word About Pop-up Blocker and Browser Notes: Please disable pop-up blocker and allow pop-ups in your browser for ZeroPC. Some browsers like Chrome comes with the pop-up blocker enabled as default. They may prevent certain ZeroPC features from working properly. Please be sure to check your browser s pop-up blocker settings to enable this feature. If you are unfamiliar with pop-ups or how to manage the blocker settings please go to one of the sites listed below for detailed explanations and instructions. You may need to copy and paste the relevant URL into a new browser window. For Microsoft s Internet Explorer click here For Mozilla Firefox click here For Google Chrome click here For Apple Safari click here (Please review the next page for an important note for Mac Safari 5 users) 4

Important Note for Mac Safari 5 Users: There is a known problem with Apple s Safari Browser Version 5 and how it handles Java Applets. ZeroPC uses Java Applets to support some of our functionality. The problem with Safari 5 is that it will sometimes freeze when visiting web sites that use Java Applets. In that case the user must force quit Safari. There is an easy one-time fix for this problem. 1) Open Finder and navigate to Applications -> Utilities -> Java Preferences. 2) Launch Java Preferences 3) On the General tab click the option to run applets In their own process (see below) That will resolve the freezing problem with ZeroPC and also any other web site using Java Applets. 5

Linking your Account with Accounts Manager ZeroPC allows quick and easy access to your email accounts, web-based content storage providers and even Facebook and Twitter. But first you need to tell ZeroPC about your accounts by using the Accounts Manager tool. You can access the Accounts Manager directly from the Desktop or by selecting it from the apps menu: 6

This is what the Accounts Manager screen looks like when you first open it. You can expand any of these services by clicking on the downarrow located at the right side of the screen. Controls for your ZeroPC user profile Setup access to your email accounts here Connect ZeroPC to your Facebook Profile Connect ZeroPC to your Twitter Profile Connect ZeroPC to your Google Docs Connect ZeroPC to your Google Picasa Connect ZeroPC to your files on Box.net Connect ZeroPC to your Dropbox Profile Connect ZeroPC to your Evernote Profile Connect ZeroPC to your Flickr account Connect ZeroPC to your files on Sugarsync 7

As you can see ZeroPC connects to many popular web services. This is done by using standard and secure interconnection methods provided by the host web services. You are not required to connect any of these services with ZeroPC. However, by doing so you enable one of the powerful features we provide by allowing quick, easy and unified access all from your ZeroPC desktop. Let s have a look at each of these items. My Profile: This is your ZeroPC profile. You can manage your storage quota, purchase additional ZeroPC Credits and review your billing log including charges and credits. 8

Managing your storage quota: You can store content in your ZeroPC desktop. You may increase or decrease your storage quota once per day. This places unprecedented control in your hands to manage your account. To view and adjust your quota click on the Manage your storage quota link in the My Profile section of Accounts Manager. This screen lets you know how you are using your storage quota. To increase or decrease your assigned storage quota just choose your new value from the dropdown selection and click the Apply button. The change is immediate - you can use your additional space right away. Remember, you may only adjust your storage quota once per day. 9

Universal Inbox: Use the Universal Inbox to connect your all of your IMAP e-mail accounts for easy access from your ZeroPC. Click on the Manage e-mail accounts link to enter the details of each of your accounts. We have preconfigured the server settings for GMail and Yahoo. You may specify other IMAP e-mail providers but you will need to obtain the server settings from their support pages. Once you have setup your e-mail accounts you will be able to access unread emails from the Universal Inbox application: Further discussion of the Universal Inbox application appears later in this guide. 10

Box.net Integration: This allows you to quickly link your Box.net account to your ZeroPC. You only have to link your Box.net account to ZeroPC once. Then, every time you login ZeroPC will automatically establish a connection. Click the Sign in via Box.net OAuth to start the secure authentication process. Please note that as part of this initial authentication we have to open a popup window to Box.net s login page. So please be sure that you have enabled popups when you initiate the sign in process. Note that the Status will change to logged in after successful authentication. Now you can access all of your Box.net content using ZeroPC s native File Explorer. 11

SugarSync Integration: This allows you to quickly link your SugarSync account to your ZeroPC. You only have to link your SugarSync account to ZeroPC once. Then, every time you login ZeroPC will automatically establish a connection. Click the Sign in using your SugarSync credentials to start the secure authentication process. You will be prompted to enter your SugarSync username and password. Note that the Status will change to logged in after successful authentication. Now you can access all of your SugarSync content using ZeroPC s native File Explorer. 12

Flickr Integration: This allows you to quickly link your Flickr account to your ZeroPC. You only have to link your Flickr account to ZeroPC once. Then, every time you login ZeroPC will automatically establish a connection. Click the Sign in via Flickr Oauth to start the secure authentication process. Please note that as part of this initial authentication we have to open a popup window to Flickr s login page. So please be sure that you have enabled popups when you initiate the sign in process. Flickr s authentication page requires you to login and then explicitly authorize ZeroPC to access your account. Once you have authorized access you can close the Flickr popup. Then you must click the Authorize link in Accounts Manager to finalize the connection: Now you can access all of your Flickr content using ZeroPC s native File Explorer. 13

Google Docs Integration*: This allows you to quickly link your Google Docs account to your ZeroPC. You only have to link your Google account to ZeroPC once. Then, every time you login ZeroPC will automatically establish a connection. *If you used your Google account to log into ZeroPC then you will be automatically connected to Google Docs. Click the Sign in via Google OAuth to start the secure authentication process. Please note that as part of this initial authentication we have to open a popup window to Google s login page. So please be sure that you have enabled popups when you initiate the sign in process. After you login to Google then you will have to also Grant Access to ZeroPC. Note that the Status will change to logged in after successful authentication. Now you can access all of your Google Docs content using ZeroPC s native File Explorer. 14

Google Picasa Integration: This allows you to quickly link your Google Picasa web albumss account to your ZeroPC. You only have to link your Google account to ZeroPC once. Then, every time you login ZeroPC will automatically establish a connection. Now you can access all of your Google Picasa content using ZeroPC s native File Explorer. 15

Facebook Integration*: This allows you to quickly link your Facebook account to your ZeroPC. You only have to link your Facebook account to ZeroPC once. Then, every time you login ZeroPC will automatically establish a connection. This allows you to easily browse Facebook photo albums. *If you used your Facebook account to log into ZeroPC then you will be automatically connected to Facebook. Click the Sign in via Facebook OAuth to start the secure authentication process. Please note that as part of this initial authentication we have to open a popup window to Facebook s login page. So please be sure that you have enabled popups when you initiate the sign in process. Note that the Status will change to logged in after successful authentication. Now you can access Facebook Photo Albums using ZeroPC s native File Explorer. 16

Twitter Integration*: This allows you to quickly link your Twitter account to your ZeroPC. You only have to link your Twitter account to ZeroPC once. Then, every time you login ZeroPC will automatically establish a connection. Click the Sign in via Twitter OAuth to start the secure authentication process. Please note that as part of this initial authentication we have to open a popup window to Twitter s authentication page. So please be sure that you have enabled popups when you initiate the sign in process. Note that the Status will change to logged in after successful authentication. Now you can view recent Tweets using ZeroPC s native Universal Inbox Application. 17

The Universal Inbox Native Application The Universal Inbox native application consolidates your various IMAP e-mails, Facebook Status updates and recent Tweets. Once you have setup the desired accounts in Accounts Manager, as described above, then your Universal Inbox will automatically look for new emails, Facebook Status updates and Tweets. The Universal Inbox notifies you of any updates in two places: Notice the envelope icon located in the System Tray in the lower right corner of the ZeroPC screen. If you have any new messages this icon will display with a red tint as shown. If you mouse over the icon a tooltip is displayed showing the number of new e- mail messages and Facebook Status Updates. This is the desktop icon for the Universal Inbox application. The little number displays if you have any new e- mail messages or Facebook Status Updates. The number displayed in the System Tray icon and also the Desktop Icon only reflects unread e-mail messages and Facebook Status updates received within the past 48 hours. Tweets are not included in this value. 18

The Universal Inbox Native Application You can open the Universal Inbox application by either clicking on the System Tray icon or double-click the desktop icon, both noted above. Here is what the Universal Inbox may look like depending on the accounts you have setup: Here is an explanation of this example: The Inbox section is a consolidation of any e-mail mailboxes and Facebook Status updates. The number 9 indicates that there are a total of 9 new messages. The additional sections, GMail, Yahoo, Other and Facebook reflect only those new messages relevant to that account. The total of these adds up to 9. Twitter will always show a + symbol to indicate there are one or more new tweets. The Universal Inbox will display up to 40 tweets. 19

The Universal Inbox Native Application Expanding the sections provides more detail: 20

The Universal Inbox Native Application Clicking on a Show all link or an individual e-mail or other account name will display the list of messages as shown below: Here is an explanation of this example: This screen is a result of clicking the Show all link in the Inbox section of the Universal Inbox. This display shows all the unread e-mails received in the last 48 hours sorted so the most recent one is at the top. The sender, date/time, subject and first few characters of the message body are displayed. This gives you a quick look at what is pending so that you may make informed decisions. 21

The Universal Inbox Native Application Clicking on a specific e-mail from the list of messages will open a new window displaying the full content of the message: Here is an explanation of this example: This screen is a result of clicking a specific message from the list described in the previous page. Click the Reply link to send a reply e-mail, forward this e-mail to another person, mark the e-mail as read or delete the e-mail from your specified IMAP server. Clicking the Previous or Next links allows you to quickly navigate through the list of messages. 22

File Explorer Native Application The File Explorer native application provides an easy and familiar way for you to view and manage your online content. You can manage the content stored in your ZeroPC storage system and also any account specified in the Accounts Manager. The File Explorer supports all of the common functionality you would expect including drag & drop, folder management, right-click context sensitive submenu, double-click to open and more. You can access the File Explorer directly from the Desktop or by selecting it from the apps menu: 23

File Explorer Native Application The File Explorer uses the familiar treeview style of displaying folder structure. You can create unlimited folder and subfolders to organize your content. The My Storage root folder is where all of your ZeroPC storage content is kept. Additional nodes are available for you to access Google, Flickr, Facebook and more. You can drag & drop content from any of these folders to any destination. 24

The Safety Box The Safety Box is a special folder in the File Explorer. This is a password protected folder where you can safely and securely store your most sensitive content. By default the Safety Box is always locked. The first time you access it you will be prompted to create a password. From then on only you can get to the data stored there: Locked Unlocked 25

This feature allows you to share your selected content and the complete ZeroPC experience. You can access the Transferable Desktop feature by selecting it from the apps menu. Step 1 is to create a Transferable Desktop: 37

Creating a Transferable Desktop You will be presented with the Transferable Desktop Wizard when selecting the Create Transferable Desktop menu option. Step 1: Enter a Group ID This should be a short phrase identifying the type of content you intend to share. Your recipients will see this phrase so make it meaningful. This is something that only you will see and helps you to further identify your setup. This is also optional. Click Next 38

Creating a Transferable Desktop Specify the publish period and type of Transferable Desktop: You may select from two types of Transferable Desktops: Free Transferable Desktop This type only allows you to share up to 50MB of content and is only valid for 7 days. However, it s free! Paid Transferable Desktop This type allows you to share as much content as you have available. You can also specify the duration from as little as 1 day or set it to never expire. Paid means that you must have available space in your storage quota and any bandwidth usage incurred by the recipients of your Transferable Desktop will be deducted from your ZeroPC credit. Click Next 39

Creating a Transferable Desktop Free Transferable Desktop Content Selection: This is the content selection panel you will see if you have selected a Free Transferable Desktop. You may select any or all of your folders in your ZeroPC My Storage. ZeroPC will include all files and subfolders under your folder selection(s). Note that you are allowed 50MB of Free Storage. You can increase your storage quota in the Accounts Manager My Profile section described earlier in this guide. Click Create 41

Creating a Transferable Desktop Preview your template: To preview your Transferable Desktop before it's published, click on the listed URL to open up another browser tab or new window. This is a writeable Transferable Desktop meaning that you will be able to do additional customization like adding/deleting files, creating new desktop shortcuts, moving file locations, changing desktop background, etc Once you are done with customizing, simply log off your Transferable Desktop and your changes will be automatically saved. Please do not share this URL with other people as they may accidentally modify the content. Your recipients of this Transferable Desktop will see an exact copy of the template. So be sure to make it personal! Click Next 42

Creating a Transferable Desktop Time to Publish! You have now completed the setup of your Transferable Desktop. Now it s time to let your recipients know about it. ZeroPC will notify your recipients via email. You need to provide the list of email addresses, the subject line and a brief message body. When you click Publish ZeroPC will send out the notifications. You may also post this to your Facebook wall or Twitter. Talkwheel: ZeroPC has partnered with Talkwheel to provide a real-time interactive group discussion platform to facilitate interaction among recipients for your shared Transferable Desktop. By visually mapping the group conversation into a round table format, it captures the natural flow of in-person conversation among your shared recipients. If you wish to use Talkwheel to manage your group conversation, you must enter a conversation topic for your Transferable Desktop. Click Publish 43

Modifying a Transferable Desktop You can modify existing Transferable Desktops. This includes extending the duration of paid Transferable Desktops, inviting additional recipients, converting a free Transferable Desktop to a paid type, suspending and deleting. You can access the Modify Transferable Desktop utility from the Apps menu: 44

Modifying a Transferable Desktop Here is the screen that shows the list of Transferable Desktops that you can modify: To select an existing Transferable Desktop to edit, select the name (Group ID) by clicking on the "Arrow" sign next to it. A detail description of the selected Transferable Desktop will be displayed. You will have the choice to either Edit, Suspend/Resume or Delete. With Edit, there will be options to update the shared content, change the duration of publishing, further customizing your Transferable Desktop. With Suspend, the Transferable Desktop is retained in our system but can only be accessed by you. A suspended Transferable Desktop can be enabled at any time. With Delete, it will be permanently deleted in our system. 45

Modifying a Transferable Desktop When you edit a Transferable Desktop you will be presented with a wizard very similar to the one used to create a Transferable Desktop. The first panel allows you to add or change the Group Password and also modify the short group description. Note that you may not alter the Group ID after a Transferable Desktop has been created. Click Next 46

Modifying a Transferable Desktop This panel allows you to change the duration of a Transferable Desktop. This is also the panel that allows you to convert a Free Transferable Desktop into a Paid type. Note that you are not allowed to convert a Paid Transferable Desktop to a Free type. Click Next 47

Modifying a Transferable Desktop This panel allows you to add more storage to a paid Transferable Desktop. If you want to add more content to an existing Transferable Desktop you may need to extend the amount of storage allocated. This panel allows you to add more storage and also change the maximum simultaneous users allowed. You are not allowed to reduce the allocated storage. Note that you must have available space in your storage quota to allow the extension of storage and maximum simultaneous users. Click Next 48

Modifying a Transferable Desktop This panel allows you to add more recipients and publish your changes. The list of previously specified recipients is listed. You can add more recipients by entering their email addresses. Note that you can not remove a previously specified recipient. You may specify an email subject and optionally provide a message to your recipients. Clicking the Publish button saves all of your changes and ZeroPC will then send emails to all recipients with your updated message. Note that you can also modify the Talkwheel settings including modifying the Topic. Click Publish 49

Modifying a Transferable Desktop You may modify the look and feel or update the content of an existing Transferable Desktop. Access to your existing Transferable Desktop Templates is available through the Apps menu: This submenu lists the Transferable Desktops available to you. You may edit the template of any Transferable Desktop that you own by clicking on the appropriate item in the list. This will open a new tab in your browser displaying your template. Any changes you make are automatically saved when you log out of the template. 50

Linking other Transferable Desktops to your ZeroPC You may link Transferable Desktops that have been shared to you by others directly into your ZeroPC. This provides you with quick and easy access. You may access this feature through the Apps menu: 51

Linking other Transferable Desktops to your ZeroPC Clicking on the Link Desktop menu option presents you with this screen: The email you receive includes a secure URL that automatically launches the Transferable Desktop. Also included in the email is the login ID. You can provide either the URL or the login ID and then click the OK button. 52

Linking other Transferable Desktops to your ZeroPC The specified Transferable Desktop is now available for you to access through your list of Desktops: Notice that the icon designates which Transferable Desktops you own and which have been shared to you by others. Simply click on the menu option and ZeroPC will automatically launch the Transferable Desktop. 53

ThinkFree Office Online Productivity Suite Your ZeroPC comes with the ThinkFree Office Online Productivity Suite. These tools provide word processing, spreadsheet and presentation editing from within your browser. ThinkFree is compatible with Microsoft Office formatted documents. You can access the ThinkFree directly from the Desktop or by selecting it from the apps menu: 54

ThinkFree Office Online Productivity Suite Double-clicking the desktop icon or selecting the ThinkFree Office menu option will display the ThinkFree launcher window: Alternatively, ThinkFree is automatically launched if you double-click on an Office document (.doc,.xls, or.ppt) and there is no suitable local application available on your computer. Or, you can select ThinkFree Office by right-clicking on an Office document and choosing the Open With submenu: 55

Local Application Support ZeroPC automatically checks for the availability of local applications as part of the login process. You may see a prompt requesting authorization to for an applet to run after you login: This is the technique ZeroPC uses to identify available local applications. If you click Deny your ZeroPC will function properly. You simply will not have access to any local applications. ZeroPC checks for a wide variety of local applications on Windows and Mac platforms. When appropriate ZeroPC will always attempt to launch an available local application to provide the best user experience possible. For example, if you double-click an Office document (.doc or.docx) file then, if it is available, ZeroPC will automatically launch the local copy of Microsoft Word and open the selected file. You may edit the file and when you click save then ZeroPC automatically saves the edited content back to your ZeroPC storage. It s all completely seamless to you as a user. 56
