Definitins Electrnic devices shall include all cmputing devices that can take phtgraphs; recrd audi r vide data; stre, transmit r receive messages r images; r prvide a wireless cnnectin t the Internet. Examples f these devices include, but shall nt be limited t desktps, laptps, tablets, smartphnes, E-readers, as well as any technlgy with similar capabilities. Digital Citizenship is the nrm f respnsible behavir related t the apprpriate use f technlgy. It encmpasses digital literacy, ethics and nline safety. User is any individual granted authrizatin t use electrnic devices. Users may include students, parents, staff, vlunteers, visitrs, cntactrs, r individuals emplyed by service prviders. Authrized Use f Electrnic Devices Electrnic devices brught t schl by students shall be restricted t educatin purpses in apprved lcatins and times under the supervisin f schl persnnel. a. Use electrnic devices in accrdance with expectatins set frth in the schl Cde f Cnduct; b. Cmply with guidelines set by schl persnnel fr the use f electrnic devices while n schl prperty r while engaged in a schl-spnsred activity; c. Take phtgraphs and audi/vide recrdings nly with a persn s cnsent and when authrized by schl persnnel fr educatin purpses; d. Access the schl netwrk using apprved infrastructure nly; e. Teachers are respnsible fr ensuring the device is used nly at specific times and under adult supervisin; f. Students are respnsible fr prviding a plan ahead f time fr the use f the device as t when it will be used; g. Students will prvide a lg f phts/vides taken wh was in it and prf that they had permissin t take the pht/vide.

Bring Yur Own Device Plicy fr Students Respnsibilities All users are respnsible fr: registering their electrnic device with the schl and submitting a signed Use f Electrnic Devices Agreement prir t cnnecting t the schl netwrk; Ensuring electrnic devices are used in accrdance with schl plicies and prcedures; Caring, maintaining, securing, and string electrnic devices; Preserving privacy f accunts, lgin names, passwrds, and/r lck cdes t maintain security f electrnic devices and data; Maintaining a safe and prductive learning envirnment when using electrnic devices; Practicing digital citizenship. Teachers are respnsible fr: Creating equitable learning pprtunities that include electrnic devices fr educatin purpses when relevant t curriculum and instructin; Determining when students are able t use schl r persnal electrnic devices fr educatin purpses; Supervising student use f electrnic devices; Respnding effectively t disciplinary issues frm inapprpriate electrnic device usage; Cmmunicating apprpriately with administratrs, parents and students if schl plicy is vilated frm electrnic device usage.

Bring Yur Own Device Plicy fr Students Students are respnsible fr: Using electrnic devices fr educatinal purpses in apprved lcatins under the supervisin f schl persnnel nly; Implementing virus and malware scanning n their electrnic devices; Reprting any inapprpriate electrnic device usage t a teacher r administratr immediately; Ensuring their electrnic devices are charged prir t bringing them t schl; Cntinuing t learn using an alternative methd if an electrnic device malfunctins. Ensuring devices are nt shared with anther student unless it is a sibling (eg. One student is nt permitted t brrw anther student s electrnic device). Parents are respnsible fr: Helping their children take all reasnable steps t care, maintain, secure, stre and transprt their electrnic device; Helping their children preserve the privacy f accunts, lgin names, passwrds, and/r lck cdes; Identifying the electrnic device by labeling it, recrding details such as make, mdel, and serial number, and/r installing tracking sftware; Encuraging their children t fllw schl plicy and practice digital citizenship; Cntacting the schl ffice t cmmunicate with their child during the schl day, instead f using text messages, emails, phne calls, r ther digital means that have n curriculum related/educatin purpse; Assuming all respnsibility fr their child s unauthrized use f nn-schl Internet cnnectins

Bring Yur Own Device Plicy fr Students Unauthrized Use f Electrnic Devices Prhibited uses f electrnic devices includes, but are nt limited t: Areas where there is a reasnable expectatin f privacy, such as change rms r restrms; Circumventing schl s apprved netwrk infrastructure t access Internet cnnectins using an external wireless prvider; Dwn lading files that are unrelated t educatinal activities; Engaging in nn-educatinal activities such as playing games, watching vides, using scial media, listening t music, texting, r taking persnal calls; Cheating n assignments r tests; Accessing infrmatin that is cnfidential; Using phtgraphs and audi/vide recrdings fr a purpse unrelated t the schl assignment; Obtaining unauthrized access and using it t alter, destry, r remve data; Engaging in cyberbullying which invlves using technlgy t harass, threaten, embarrass r target anther persn; Cnsequences: Remedial and Disciplinary Actin Individuals wh d nt cmply with this Plicy will be subject t apprpriate cnsequences cnsistent with the schl Cde f Cnduct Cnsequences may include, but are nt limited t, the fllwing, either singularly r in cmbinatin depending n the individual circumstances; Temprary cnfiscatin f device; Search f device cntents t lcate evidence f misuse; Limitatins, suspensin, and/r revcatin f access privileges t persnal and schl technlgy resurces; Disciplinary measures

The schl and schl persnnel shall nt be liable fr the lss, damage, misuse, r theft f any student-wned electrnic device; pssessed/used during the schl day; in/n schl buildings, prperty, vehicles, r cntracted vehicles; during transprt t/frm schl; while attending schl-spnsred activities. The schl and schl persnnel shall nt be respnsible fr any negative cnsequences t electrnic devices caused by running specific sftware r by accessing the schl netwrk. Technical supprt Schl persnnel shall nt prvide technical supprt, trubleshting, r repair fr user-wned electrnic devices. Students in Grades 4 7 will be able t bring laptps, netbks, tablets, r smartphnes t use fr educatin purpses. Having nging access t technlgy will help yur child develp greater independence, increase engagement, and develp skills required t thrive in the 21 st Century. A guidelines plicy is nw psted n the schl website. Educatinal Activities Student devices will be used t access resurces, cmplete assignments, and fr persnal rganizatin. Educatinal activities may include researching infrmatin, prducing dcuments, analyzing data, participating in surveys, prducing vides, reading e-bks, creating blgs, taking ntes, r scheduling events. The use f the device is at the sle discretin f the teacher. Digital Citizenship A fcus f this initiative is digital citizenship, which is the respnsible use f technlgy. Yur child will learn digital skills, ethics, etiquette, and nline safety. These are imprtant aspects f participating in tday s wrld. Safe and Secure T maintain a safe and secure learning envirnment, a filtered internet cnnectin will be prvided fr students. They will nt be permitted t use a persnal bradband cnnectin such as a 3G/4G phne netwrk. As well, students will nly be able t use their device under the direct supervisin f their teacher. Any unauthrized use can result in a device being cnfiscated, searched, and privileges being revked. Respnsibility Students are slely respnsible fr their device.
