Cutting and Preparation Pipes shall be cut square and true using tube cutters, a fine toothed hacksaw or low speed dry cutting chop saw. No oils will be used for lubrication of pipe cutting or fitting insertion, only water or liquid soap can be used. Pipe ends must be deburred internally and externally, prior to insertion with fittings, using the combined inside / outside Geberit Mapress deburr tool (item 90363) or similar. 2.2. Bending Geberit Mapress Carbon Steel pipes can be bent by hand up to a radius of greater than five times the diameter, and by bending tool up to a radius of greater than three and a half times the diameter. Specialist bending equipment will be required on diameters of 54mm and above; suitability of bending tools should be approved by the manufacturer of the tool. No heat shall be directly applied to the pipe for bending purposes. Care should be taken not to damage the galvanised layer. 2.3. Expansion Expansion provision must be accounted for in all piping systems, particularly those carrying high temperature media. Consideration must be given to creation of expansion space, installation of expansion compensators and positioning of anchor and sliding points PRIOR to installation. For material constants relating to expansion including different methods of expansion compensation please see Geberit Supply Systems Installation Guide. 2.8. Additives Water additives such as anti-freeze, corrosion inhibitors, softeners, cooling and disinfection agents should be checked for suitability of use with the various seal rings. For the use of such agents the instructions of the manufacturer should always be followed. For more information on water additives tested and approved by Geberit, please contact the Geberit Technical Department directly. 2.9. Corrosion Protection 2.9.1. External Corrosion In areas of high humidity and where moisture will contact the surface of a fitting, a layer of anti-corrosion tape shall be applied after priming and prior to the application of the insulation. Protection against external corrosion must meet the following requirements: Waterproof Free of pores Resistant to heat and aging Undamaged
Coatings or corrosion protection sleeves can be used to provide protection against external corrosion, for example. Hoses or felt wrapping is not permissible, as felt retains absorbed moisture for prolonged periods and therefore promotes corrosion. Closed-cell insulation does not provide adequate corrosion protection for chilled water installations involving Geberit Mapress Carbon Steel. For further information please see Geberit Supply Systems Installation Guide Section 3.1, or consult the insulation manufacturer. 2.10. Painting Paint coatings or priming coats can be applied to Geberit Mapress Carbon Steel when required. 3. Testing Completed pipes must be tested for tightness before they are covered or painted. They should be tested with a pressure test. The pressure test can be performed with water or air. The test medium depends on the installed and planned commissioning. If the pipe system is to be left empty after the pressure test, a pressure test with air or inert gas should be performed. The test medium and results should be documented in the test report. The HVCA guide to good practice TR/6, BS EN 806-4, or guides issued by CIBSE and WRAS offer recommendations for the site pressure testing of pipe-work. The entire system must undergo a visual check prior to the pressure test. During this check, care should be taken to ensure the pipe-lines have been installed professionally. For further information please see Geberit Supply Systems Installation Guide (Section 4) or contact Geberit Technical Department directly. 4. Recommendations for cleaning / flushing If after flushing, the system is to be left empty, the system should be thoroughly blown through with dry compressed air to remove all water particles and minimise any corrosion inside the pipe. Carbon Steel piping should not be left empty for long periods as this increases the risk of internal corrosion. Alternatively the system can be filled with an inert gas to minimise internal corrosion. 5. Storage of Geberit Mapress fittings Geberit Mapress pipes and fittings must be protected against dirt and damage whilst in transit and while being stored. Press fittings are supplied packed in practical sized plastic bags. Pipes should be stored in dry conditions prior to installation. 6.
