A safe and secure society Let s have a barbecue this evening! It s so simple and delicious. It doesn t take long to heat up the gas grill. We re always looking for quick and efficient solutions in today s society. Not many people would say that cooking their daily dinner over the embers of an open fire is a realistic alternative. A hunter or a scout might possibly think otherwise. Obviously, it has to be a safe solution too. But we leave that aspect to others. We seldom reflect on all the safety procedures that are required to make it possible for us to have access to quick-ignite gas for our BBQ grill on the patio at home. LPG is one of many products handled in the Oil, Gas & Chemicals segment. It is a large area covering everything from the handling of crude oil and natural gas, to refineries and different chemical businesses products and industries that we are totally dependent upon today. The processes are complex and investment-intensive. An active, internal process is therefore necessary in order to be able to meet current safety standards without compromising profitability. In addition to the knowledge and experience within the organisation, there is also a need for professional expertise from outside. Someone who can make the business even more secure. Someone like Inspecta. For more than thirty years, Inspecta has been playing a leading role in creating a safe and secure society in Northern Europe. We place great focus on the oil, gas and chemicals industry where you are one of our key clients. Our personnel understand your business and have tremendous respect for the challenges you face. We share the market s need for knowledge, security, operating time and profitability. Together with you, we are developing new opportunities and ensuring conformance with applicable regulations. Our services include inspection, testing, technical consultation, certification and training. Five key cornerstones that generate trust and quality. No job is too small or too big for us. We can be the driving force in the maintenance shutdown at a refinery and we can make sure that the gas bottle you need next time you re having a BBQ in your garden is available. 3

Why Inspecta? I m responsible for the inspections and I have full confidence in the services provided by Inspecta. I know they always do a first-rate job. Their personnel are proficient, self-starting and use their initiative. Another positive attribute of Inspecta is its development of new, costeffective tools. We have just finished evaluating their Long Range Ultrasonic testing method and the results look great. Magnus Nylander, Inspection Manager at Shell. Training is an essential part of our ongoing efforts to improve safety at our refineries. We are able to hold some courses internally. However, it s often necessary for us to look beyond our own company for external expertise. Preem has chosen Inspecta as its training partner because of its extensive knowledge of the subject, its instructional approach and its ability to adapt courses to suit our requirements. Sofia Lagerkvist, Process Technical Manager at the Preem Refinery in Lysekil and Joakim Nilsson, Inspection Manager at the Preem Refinery in Lysekil and Preem Refinery in Gothenburg. At Borealis, we work with risk-based inspections (RBI) to achieve optimum safety and cost-efficiency in our facilities. Inspecta was the obvious choice of partner when we introduced this way of working. Inspecta has been helping us with our inspections for many years and we know that it has the skills, collaborative commitment and motivation that we are looking for. Pierre Billgren, Inspection Manager at Borealis. 4

Magnus Nylander, Inspection Manager at Shell 5

Why Inspecta? Know-how Knowledge is essential for the improvement of safety. Knowledge can also increase operating time. Inspecta has a unique history as a provider of knowledge to the oil, gas and chemicals industries. And we are pleased to share our knowledge with you. All with the intent of making your business as efficient as possible. A constant search for new solutions and improvements is part of our corporate culture. It is a way of ensuring we are always at the forefront of the industry. Research and development is a natural way of delving into new areas and we have a leading position in many key areas related to the oil, gas and chemicals industries. We also have long-term partnerships with a wide range of institutes, research centres and companies. We make it a priority to always have well-trained staff who know the industry and can ensure that our knowledge is transferred effectively both internally and externally. Improve your skills and prepare to meet new challenges with us. 6

Why Inspecta? Safety Safety and security are a major challenge for many industries, especially those operating in the oil, gas and chemicals industries. Keeping a focus on safety issues will further the sustainable development of the environment and business. It s vital to take precautions and to anticipate and prevent accidents by complying with international, national and local regulations. The oil, gas and chemicals industries usually have very modern, technically advanced facilities with complex production processes. Any shortcomings in safety can result in injury or, at worst, death. It is therefore imperative to ensure compliance with all regulations and standards down to the smallest detail. A high level of safety can be maintained through a combination of skilled and experienced staff, fixed routines and clear documentation. This is where Inspecta enters the picture. Our company is accredited and serves as your independent, scrutinising body. With our many years of experience in safety and security issues in the business, we have encountered just about every conceivable problem and learned the best ways of integrating safety processes into daily operations. As well as enabling you to benefit from our amassed expertise, we also keep ourselves updated on legislation and new regulations. We store data from meticulously conducted inspections and can interpret the results of tests in an accurate and correct way. This helps us to identify any risks at an early stage in the process. We are part of daily operations, development and enhancement projects. We understand every aspect of the requirements imposed and we can explain how you can meet them. Inspecta is your partner in safety. 7

Why Inspecta? Uptime Facilities in the oil, gas and chemicals industries generally operate 24/7 at a specific level of production. Sales can be increased by maximising operating time or, rather, by minimising downtime. Every minute counts. But breakdowns are not only expensive, they can also be dangerous. All key components and systems must work optimally to prevent unscheduled downtime. This can be ensured by performing regular measurements. Inspecta carries out non-destructive and destructive tests and is able to estimate the expected life of components. In addition, we measure and monitor different types of wear. Using the experience and results obtained, we work together to build up the knowledge required to be able to focus on preventive maintenance and inspection and thereby increase the accessibility of the facility. In many cases, these measurements have to be carried out during a scheduled shutdown. Together with you, we decide when it is most effective to stop the facility to keep operating time as high as possible. In the event of an unexpected breakdown, we can quickly assess the situation. We make sure that the right thing is done at the right time, by the right people, using the right equipment and that the documentation is complete. Together, we then get production up to full speed. Inspecta helps you increase your operating time and save money. 8

Why Inspecta? Profitability Profitability requires focus. Profits should be high and costs should be kept at a reasonable level. Increased operating time can improve production levels and your profits. But these developments have to take place in a sustainable manner not just for the sake of your company but for the environment and your customers too. And you must not compromise on safety. Regulations and standards must be adhered to and regular inspections must be conducted by an independent, accredited body as required. Our role is to support you in your work to increase safety, operating time and knowledge three vital aspects of profitability. 9

One partner many services Inspecta can help you with inspections, testing, technical consultation, certification and training five areas that make your business safer, simpler and more profitable. Our services can be provided individually or as an integrated package. They can also be customised and coordinated to suit the exact requirements of your company. We are pleased to share our extensive knowledge and every year we arrange a host of general and customerspecific seminars and training courses. We are a third-party body on whom you can rely, with whom you can share the responsibility and who can approve all necessary documentation. Our services are always performed by qualified, professional and experienced personnel. You can rest assured that, with us working for you, all regulations and standards are met, future problems are avoided and new technical solutions are found. Inspecta is accredited in each country (for example by FINAS in Finland, SWEDAC in Sweden and NA in Norway). Inspection Testing Technical consultancy Certification Training 10

One partner many services Inspection Checking safety Inspections are important in the oil, gas and chemicals industries. Many of them are compulsory and require formal reports. Others are performed for more commercial reasons to ensure that the equipment is up to standard. Regular inspections can provide you with quite a lot of information that can be used to guarantee that the facility is safe or to improve the operating time. The information also serves as input data for various maintenance systems and can be used to forecast future problems at an early stage. Thoroughly performed and well-documented inspections can make it possible to avoid unnecessary expenses or, at worst, an emergency shutdown. Inspecta is an independent, accredited body. This means that you can be certain that our inspections are performed by inspection technicians with the knowledge and experience required for the job. They work closely with you, know what to look for and have the authority to sign necessary documents. And you can be sure that they are available when and where you need them, even at Christmas and New Year. Everything can be inspected It is possible for us to inspect practically everything in your facility. From the entrance gate to the heart of the process. Pressure vessels, safety valves, welded seams and hoists are just some examples of what we inspect. The inspections can be carried out at all stages, from design review, manufacturing inspection and installation inspection to recurrent inspections. Web-based tool keeps you updated Dealing with the documentation of inspections is an ongoing and time-consuming process. The facilities are often large with lots of items, dates and corrective actions to keep track of. To simplify this process, we have developed an Internet-based tool that gives you direct access to the information we have collected. This makes it easier for you to order inspections and manage the documentation. The tool also keeps you up-to-date on the state of your equipment and any scheduled corrective actions. Another useful feature is that you can download forms and certificates wherever you are. All you need is an Internet connection. 12

One partner many services Testing Early detection of faults Any faults and defects must be identified at an early stage to ensure that your facility is safe and efficient. This can be done by testing. However, the testing methods used in the oil, gas and chemicals industries are often complicated. It is necessary to have the right equipment and knowledge of processes and materials to be able to perform the tests correctly. Inspecta is a leading expert in non-destructive and destructive testing. You can come to us for all your testing needs, from ultrasonic and magnetic powder testing to hardness testing. Whatever item you want tested, we know which methods are best and produce the most accurate results. If there are any concealed defects in your facility, we have the tools and expertise to help you find them. We can also measure or calibrate pressure, heat, volumes and flows for you. If you perform the tests with us, you can feel confident about the results. If they show that your welded seam is strong enough to withstand the pressure, that your tools are measuring accurately and that your thinnest pipe will last another year then you can be sure that s the case. Continuous development Inspecta takes part in numerous research projects in close collaboration with our customers. Our knowledge about computer-based radiography, ultrasonic IRIS and Long Range Ultrasonic Testing (LRUT), for example, allows us to develop new, advanced services to match the needs of our customers and the challenges that they face in the future. Together we are leading developments in Northern Europe. The basis of our testing services: Non-destructive testing (NDT) Visual Testing (VT) Magnetic Particle Testing (MT) Penetrant Testing (PT) Radiography Testing (RT) Ultrasonic Testing (UT) Eddy Current Testing (ET) Leak Testing (LT) Material Identification (PMI) Advanced VT; Video Endoscopy Advanced RT; Digital Radiography Advanced UT; Phased Array, TOFD, EMAT, IRIS, Long Range Ultrasonic (LRUT) Advanced ET; SLOFEC, Eddymax Destructive testing (DT) Mechanical Testing Hardness Testing Macro- / Microtesting Quality Quality Control (QC) 15

One partner many services Technical consultancy To help you make the right decisions Facilities in the oil, gas and chemicals industries are dependent on complex technologies. One partner many services Certification Evidence of your ambition Certification is an important part of all activities. It affirms that your products, management systems and personnel meet international, national and local criteria. By certifying your company, you also receive a declaration of validity, issued by a third party, which proves that you are committed to safety and sustainable development. Inspecta has extensive experience of certification work and of acting as an impartial reviewer. We certify management systems that promote the continuous improvement of your organisation and business activities. This allows you to satisfy your customers needs for products and services in the best possible way and thereby strengthen your competitive advantage. We also issue certificates for products and certificates to verify that production processes are maintaining specified levels of quality. This means that you can get some equipment marked with the CE conformity marking or show that they meet other official standards. About Inspecta A history to be proud of Inspecta s story began back in 1975 when the Finnish state founded the Technical Inspection Centre (Teknillinen tarkastuskeskus, TTK) to ensure that inspections of pressure vessels and other safety-critical objects were safe. The same year, a new law was passed for National Test Sites in Sweden, and in 1977, Sweden formed the Swedish Plant Inspectorate (Statens Anläggningsprovning). In the 1990s, many countries began to deregulate state owned entities to boost competitiveness. In 1995, the inspection monopoly was lifted in Sweden and the Swedish Plant Inspectorate changed its name to SAQ Kontroll AB. In January 1998, the Finnish market was also deregulated and at the same time TTK became Inspecta. In 2005 Inspecta acquired parts of DNV, which had previously acquired SAQ Kontroll AB. And since then Inspecta has grown both organically and through acquisitions in Finland, Sweden, Latvia, Estonia, Norway, Denmark and Lithuania. We are proud of the fact that parts of Inspecta have their roots in public organisations and companies with a wide spectrum of capabilities and skills. This legacy of integrity, high quality focus and expertise is still very prominent at Inspecta. We have been a privately-owned, customer-driven company for more than ten years, enabling us to continually complement and develop our skills and expertise. We offer custom-made services, value for money, efficiency and excellent service. Our unique competitiveness coupled with our lengthy experience has made Inspecta the market leader in the Nordic countries. We are the best of both worlds. We are trust and quality.
