Saturday 29th & Sunday 30th September 2016 Message From The Team: Race Information We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for supporting the event. It has been a long road for us getting the event to go ahead and as we are a very small team it has been a challenge responding to the vast number of queries we have had about details and info. We thank you very much for getting behind the event and entering. There are people from all over the world taking part. Hopefully we will have good weather to showcase our beautiful coastline and region to everyone taking part. It is really exciting to be staging this marathon, half marathon and cycle challenge. When we started out with the vision to put this event on, we wanted an inclusive event open to as many people as possible. By introducing the cycle challenge it meant people who might not run marathons could still enjoy the atmosphere and be part of the whole event. By growing this in future years we hope to build something really special in the region that everyone can be part of. It wouldn t be possible to put on an event like this without the support of Sponsors. A special thanks goes to Muckle Llp, Stratstone BMW, Start Fitness, High5 Sports Nutrition and North Tyneside Council. They recognised that the first year of something like this is a big challenge. They have been a fantastic support and essential element to making it happen. A huge part of getting people together to take part in a mass participation event is to help raise much needed funds for charities. It is a very fulfilling part of our role that so many people benefit from the event taking place. Please consider raising funds for our partner charities, MacMillan Cancer Care, Tony Blair Sports Foundation, Bright Red, Sport Newcastle, Capital Make Some Noise and Forward Assist. These charities are promoting fundraising through the event and we would love you to support them.

Below is an outline of the information you need as a participant and also some information for your family/friends/supporters. Please read through the information so you are ready for the event. This should cover most questions. If you do have any other queries, please look at the FAQ section of the website. We hope you have a great event and get the result you have worked towards. Many thanks, The M2N Team.

PRIOR TO THE RACE Race Pack/Registration for all runners and cyclists (inc Jrs) Race packs will be available for collection from Start Fitness 33-35 Market St, Newcastle upon Tyne NE1 6JE from Thurs 13th October 2016. If you have a North East (NE) Postcode you need to collect your pack from Start Fitness. If your postcode is from outside the NE area your pack will be available for collection on Saturday 29th October at the Finish area next to the Tyne Bar on Newcastle Quayside 1 Maling St, Newcastle upon Tyne NE6 1LP between the times of 10:10am and 13:00. The image below give you an overview of where these collection points are.

Your race packs will contain your race number and your timing chip (no chips for Mini Mile). The timing chip is a loop chip and should be worn as per the images below. There will also be some flyers and offers that may interest you. We are keeping as much information as possible online or electronic in a bid to save unnecessary use of paper and do our bit to help reduce waste. Your race information in this document is very important as it sets out the safety guidelines and terms that you must follow. By turning up to take part in the event you are confirming that you have read and understood these terms and agree to them and will adhere to them. Once you have your pack you have everything you need to be ready for the run (Provided you have your mind and body ready for it!).

MINI MILE Information Please arrive at the gathering point at the start area (shown as the turquoise box above) for 13:00. This gives you time to get your things organised and ready to go. We will give a very short safety brief at 13:45 that ALL runners and parents/guardians must be present for. There is ample car parking around the quayside so please make use of the public car parks. We will be making announcements via the PA system so don t worry you will hear any latest info around the start area, just make sure you are there for 13:00. The run will start at 14:00 and will be an out and back route to the Millennium Bridge and back. We will have safety stewards marking the route and placed every 50 metres for your safety. You are running along side the river Tyne. It is very important you take care of yourself and others so don t push anyone. We will be starting the run in age group waves of a maximum of 70 to make sure it isn t too congested. Parents/guardians, please make sure you are aware of the terms and conditions of taking place in the event. By taking place in the event you confirm that you have read and agree to these conditions. Timing of the event is done by an android online timing system and will be available online shortly after the event. If you make sure your number is clearly shown on the front of your top so the finish line crew can see your number. You will be filtered into a funnel after the line. You must not pass another runner once you cross the finish line. All participants will get a medal and t-shirt so you can wear them with pride after the run. You will get your top and medal when you pass through the funnel.

RACE DAY C2N - Cycle Challenge Below is the map showing the Route for the C2N Cycle. The Orange line is the cycle and run route, and the yellow line is where the cycle route goes a slightly different route to the run. We will have this signposted with large arrows as per the image below. We will also have stewards at the points where the cycle route differs to the run route. If you have difficulty through the route please let the nearest steward know and they will contact the team to let them know. If you see a fellow rider in difficulty please check they are OK and if need be inform the next steward you see that they need assistance. There will be a sweep vehicle following the back of the field to get you to the finish if you aren t able to carry on. Please place your race number on your back and fill in the details on the back of your number, providing your personal information in case of emergency. Also make sure you put your chip on your left foot to make sure it doesn t get caught in your chain. The finish line is at Newcastle Quayside next to the Cycle Hub and Tyne Bar. This is where you collect your t-shirt and medal and bask in the glory! We have food stalls and music for you at the finish. The Tyne Bar is opening early and has bands playing throughout the day to keep you entertained if you are waiting for friends who are doing the run or just want to hang around and enjoy the atmosphere. Please note the event is on live roads. You MUST follow the highway code at ALL times. The event is about taking part in the challenge and not a race so please do not put yourself or others at risk.

PLEASE DO NOT ARRIVE AT THE START LINE BEFORE 8AM. THE ROAD WILL BE CLOSED FROM 8AM AND YOU WILL BE GATHERING ON THE HIGHWAY BEHIND THE START LINE, AS SUCH YOU CAN T GATHER HERE UNTIL THE ROAD IS CLOSED. If you are driving to the start or being dropped off, please make use of the carpark at Northumberland County Hall (shown in the image below). You can cycle to the start from here. Please note this is 3 mile from the start so give yourself plenty of time to get to the start area between 8am and 8:15am. The Cycle event starts at 08:20am. Please note this is different to the 07:50 time given when you entered. This time change is to fit in with Northumberland Council and traffic timings. You will be starting on the A192 highway behind the starting gantry. This ride takes place on live roads and you must obey the highway code at ALL times. When there are lots of other riders around you at an event it is easy to get carried away. Please make sure to stay focused on the fact you are on live roads and ensure you follow the rules. By taking part you confirm that you will follow the highway code and ensure the safety of yourself and others.

M2N - Marathon Below is a map showing the route of the Marathon. This route has bee officially measured and has a full event permit. This means your time will count for Power of 10 and as a qualifying time for other marathons. The event start is at 09:15am. Please do not arrive at the start area before 8am as this is when the road closures are in place but make sure you are at the start for 08:50 to give yourself time to prepare for the off. the start line is on the A192. When you arrive at the start please gather behind the start line and listen to the announcements via the PA system. Your official time will not start until you cross the chip sensor on the start line so please be realistic about your start position so you don t hold up faster runners. The first 7k of the marathon is on closed roads until you get to Shankhouse. At this point you join the footpath and follow the footpaths/waggonways for rest of the run. We have stewards and traffic management control at junctions and roads crossing the event are closed to make sure you aren t hindered by traffic. However, you must still look out for traffic as we can t always predict the actions of people and you need to be aware in case someone tried to pass through a closure. For this reason it is against the rules to wear headphones and listen to music/podcasts etc. You must be able to hear instructions from our safety team and also listen out for traffic. As you are on pathways, there are points where you may have to step up curbs and could be uneven pathways. You must constantly conduct your own risk assessment and avoid these trip hazards. The route will be clearly marked with directional arrows and will have stewards at all junctions to guide you along the route. You must be able to complete the marathon within the 5hr 30min cut off time. This is the time we have the traffic management and road closures at the finish line in place. After this time we must start the event route closure and reopening of the junctions and roads. If you wish to continue after this time you can do so under your own choosing but this will be outside the official event as we can not keep our safety measures in place for you.

M2N - Car-parking Our recommendation for participants is to park in Newcastle City and use our bus service to the start. There are numerous car parks in the city centre and the Percy Street Car parks are the closest to the bus pick up point. To book your place on the bus please visit the following link https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/m2n-bus-transferstickets-26221574435. Tickets are 6 plus a small processing fee. These buses will also be the baggage buses. They will bring your baggage back to the finish and will park at Spillers Carpark for you to retrieve your bags after the event (location of baggage buses shown in the image below). If you are leaving a bag on the bus, please make sure it is clearly marked with your Bib number (all items left on the bus are done so at your own risk). If you are parking a car at the Morpeth start, please use the parking at Northumberland County hall (as shown in the cycle event car park info above).

Once your supporters have dropped you off if they could please turn left through Hepscott and return to Morpeth to rejoin the A1 towards Newcastle or to the A19 for the Coast if they are looking to support you on the route.

M2N - Aid Stations/Nutrition The aid station locations are shown in the image below. The aid stations are positioned at 5k, 9k, 15k, 20k, 25k, 30k, 34k, 39k and at the finish. Every aid station will have water and High5 Energy Source. The stations will be plastic cups (avoiding people turning ankles on bottles). You MUST dispose of these cups within the aid station zone (large dumpy bag provided at end of aid station zone try and hit it if you can). Do not hold onto your cup and throw it away between stations. If you want to hold onto your cup then please hold onto it until the next station and throw it away there.

Relay Teams If you are part of a relay team the changeover points are shown in the image below. The changeover points are at 13k, 21k and 34k. Your timing chip will be your relay baton (we will supply you with a different chip with a velcro strap for you ankle (these are to be collected on the Saturday registration between 10am and 1pm)). There will be an event steward at the relay changeover point to manage the relay changeover. You must make your own way to these points so please make sure you are there in time for your runner arriving. The images below show an overview and then close up of each point.

Finish Line Your time will be taken by the chip sensor as you cross the finish line. The layout of the finish area is shown in the image below. Once you cross the line you will see tables with the finishers t-shirts and medals. We will be directing people to the right tables but please do check that you have the right medal just in case you go to the half marathon or cycle medals. Once through the finish area you will be directed to the event area at the Tyne Bar. Here there are food stalls music and refreshments available at the Tyne Bar. Sit back and enjoy the fact you have just finished a marathon. We have live bands on stage to keep you entertained while waiting for friends or just soaking up the atmosphere. If you need to collect your baggage from the baggage buses, they will be located in Spillers car park as per the image in the bus info. If you need medical assistance there is a medical tent at the finish site, please make your way there or let your nearest steward know and we will get you assistance. The event site will officially close at 3pm. You are welcome to stay at the Tyne Bar but we will be clearing the event site from this time.

N2N - Half Marathon Below is a map showing the route of the Half Marathon. This route has been officially measured and has a full event permit. This means your time will count for Power of 10 and as a qualifying time for other events. The event start is at 08:45am. Please arrive at the start area before 08:20 to give yourself time to prepare for the off. The start line is on the Links road just south of Spanish City. When you arrive at the start please gather at the helipad at Spanish City. This is where we will have our event info and PA system to give you any further info/announcements and also have toilets and coffee if you need either. We will guide you down to the start line that is behind the start gantry on the highway. Your official time will not start until you cross the chip sensor on the start line so please be realistic about your start position so you don t hold up faster runners. The first 2k of the half marathon is on closed roads until you get to Cullercoats. If you are parking a car at Whitley Bay, please use the parking on the Links. These car parks are highlighted in the image on the following page by the turquoise boxes.

N2N - Drop Off If you are getting dropped off by friends or family please arrange for drop off at the links next to Spanish City as shown in the image below. Your supporters can then travel on to the hot spots en route if they are looking to support you along the way.
