Nominal sizes DN 15 DN 1 Nominal pressures PN 16 PN 40 For water and steam up 3 C (662 F) Conversion of valve sizing coefficients: C v (in U.S.-gallons/min) = 1.17 K vs (in m 3 /h) K vs (in m 3 /h) = 0.86 C v (in U.S.-gallons/min) The typetested Type 241-1 or Type 241-7 Pneumatic Control Valve with Fail-safe Action essentially consists of a Type 241 Globe Valve and either a Type 271 or Type 3277 Pneumatic Actuar (latter for integral positioner attachment) and an attached solenoid valve (see Data Sheet T 8310 E and T 8311 E for actuar details). The control valves are used for temperature control when connected a pneumatic or electric controller. Within the safety circuits, the valve also assumes the function of a shut-off device, which is triggered by the signal of a temperature or pressure limitation device and upon air supply failure. This control valve has been typetested by the German Technical Inspecrate TÜV (Technischer Überwachungsverein) in accordance with DIN 32 730, which defines it as a shut-off and control device. The standard version is suitable for water and steam up 220 C. Another version, with extension bonnet up 3 C, is suitable for the operating pressures listed in section "Technical data" (Table 1) and for a maximum permissible ambient temperature of C. In safety circuits, a strainer (e.g., Type 2 NI according Data Sheet T 1015 E) is be installed in the direction of flow upstream of the control valve. Principle of operation (Figs. 2 and 3) In control mode, the actuar is pressurized with the signal pressure pst from either the temperature controller or the positioner, resp. If the power fails or the safety limiting device interrupts the control current when the set temperature or pressure limits are exceeded, the solenoid valve switches back the neutral position. As a result, the following occurs: The supply pressure connection is cut off, the actuar is vented, and the opposing force of the actuar springs "closes" the valve.
