Collecting your assets using Collector for ArcGIS Collector for ArcGIS is a lightweight native application that makes field collection possible with an easy-to-use interface. The app allows you to collect and update data in the field, log your current location, and put the data you capture to work, so you can make more informed and timely decisions. To get started, follow these three simple steps: Log into your ArcGIS organisational account Develop your map using ArcGIS Online, Portal for ArcGIS or ArcGIS for Server Download and install Collector for ArcGIS on your Android, ios or Windows device. While the application is simple to use, there are several deployment options which can make your introduction to Collector for ArcGIS somewhat complicated. Below you ll find some operational workflows designed to streamline your data collection. Please note: the following steps were conducted using an ios device. Some of the steps below may vary slightly depending on your device. Jump-start with templates Your industry has its own common datasets. Download templates to create the basic data structure you require, and customise it for your particular job. You can download the templates by clicking on the link below: http://www.arcgis.com/home/group.html?owner=esri_collector&title=collector%20templates Esri Singapore Pte Ltd ROC: 199606177D Copyright Esri Singapore Pte Ltd 2

Go offline In the field, you often work in areas without internet connection. If that's the case, you can download the map to make it available when you don t have a connection. You can also download or copy basemaps directly to your device, and reuse them across multiple maps. Once you have your map offline, you can start collecting and editing data in the same way as when you're connected to the internet. The figure below shows six workflow steps to help you conduct offline data collection. To ensure your web map is configured for offline use, please take note of the following: All layers in the web map must have the sync operation enabled before it can be downloaded for offline use. In ArcGIS Online or Portal for ArcGIS, you can check your web map for offline use by navigating to the item details page of the web map. Additionally, you can check the options available in your device. In ios, this option is represented by a cloud icon. Esri Singapore Pte Ltd ROC: 199606177D Copyright Esri Singapore Pte Ltd 3

Downloading your map to your device 1. Tap on maps to return to the previous screen if necessary. 2. Tap on the cloud icon. 3. In the work area tab, pan and adjust to the map extent of your area of interest. 4. In the map detail tab, select your zoom level (i.e. City 1:116,000) and tap on download. 5. The map of your area of interest extend will downloaded into the device. 6. Add any feature into the map and submit. 7. Tap on maps to return to all maps, and you will see the number of collections. 8. Connect to the internet and tap on the cloud icon to begin the synchronisation process. Continuous collection Save time collecting similar assets as you move along by using continuous collection. This workflow allows you to efficiently collect multiple, similar or identical features in a row. 1. Tap action. 2. Tap settings to open the settings page. 3. Under the collection style section, choose continuous. 4. Start collecting your assets. Collect your features following any of the other collection methods below for your next collection. GPS streaming for line/polygon features With both lines and polygon capture you will be able to collect the shape as you walk, drive (often called GPS streaming), or by capturing vertex locations, either from a tap on the map or by using your current GPS position. 1. While collecting your asset, after choosing the type of asset you want to collect, tap collect settings. 2. Set the streaming interval and continue your collection. This sets how often a point is added to the asset you're creating. The smaller the time interval, the more detailed the shape. Push only synchronisation Try and avoid using public Wi-Fi when streaming. If possible, synchronise when connected to a trusted source, like the internal Wi-Fi of your organisation. When synchronising, Collector for ArcGIS sends 2 MB bundles of data at a time, so the strength of the network connection becomes more important as the size of the data increases. You can configure Collector for ArcGIS to only push edits up to the server when you synchronise, and to not pull down edits made by others while you are offline. This reduces the amount of data transferred, making it faster to share your changes, while reducing your data transfer costs. If the edits being made by others are important to you, leave push only synchronisation disabled. Simple way to do it: 1. Tap action. 2. Tap settings to open the settings page. 3. Slide to enable push only synchronisation underneath the synchronisation section. Esri Singapore Pte Ltd ROC: 199606177D Copyright Esri Singapore Pte Ltd 6
