GE's Lean Challenge is a great story of not only an outstanding idea of how to grow our Company by creating a competition among college students, but it's also a great story of how the Company can foster an initiative like this one and translate it into a program that brings in new talent every year to all GE businesses. This is the seventh edition of the Lean Challenge. It all started in 2007 at EDESA Saltillo when a group of employees realized they could speed up their Lean Manufacturing implementation by challenging students from local colleges to compete in a 6-week long project contest at their plant. The program worked so well that the next year several other GE facilities adopted it. Now the Lean Challenge has grown to be a cross-business, country-wide initiative in Mexico, and it is also being adopted in USA and Brazil. This event has become a win-win-win opportunity. Students win by being exposed to a real life manufacturing and business environment. Universities win since they get to validate their academic level and offer a smooth transition from classroom to work environment. GE wins by improving their manufacturing processes and by having a great opportunity to recruit new talent. Lean Challenge University Working Team Training Implementing Lean Manufacturing Coaching
