4 INTRODUCTION This session will give you information in regard to the Mexican Immigration Law and help you get (if it s your case) your student visa. It is very important that by the end of the semester you have all your documents in order to avoid problems such as loosing your whole semester of studies. DO NOT RISK YOUR STUDIES! Start this procedure as soon as possible. Remember that your legal stay in Mexico is your full responsibility

5 MEXICAN IMMIGRATION POLICIES Mexican law establishes that international students, in accordance with their own stay in Mexico and nationality, must have some of the following documents: Multiply Migratory Form (FMM) Visa Without Permission to Paid Activities Temporary Resident Student Migratory Form

6 MEXICAN IMMIGRATION POLICIES All international students must ask the immigration officers for a Multiple Migratory Form (FMM) that they must keep for the entire stay in Mexico You need to deliver a copy of your FMM to the International Programs Office

7 STAYING IN MEXICO LESS THAN 180 DAYS Students staying in Mexico less than 180 days are not required to have any type of Visa, unless specified according to their nationality. Your legal document is the FMM you obtain when you enter México. Be sure the FMM is marked for 180 days in order to cover your stay in México. Always have a copy of this document with you, and keep the original in a safe place.

9 VISA WITHOUT PERMISSION FOR PAID ACTIVITIES If according to your nationality, you require a Visa, you must have the Visa Without Permission for Paid Activities To know if you are required, go to: sc/pdf/visasordinarios.pdf or come to the International Programs Office, where you can receive more information.

12 STAYING IN MEXICO MORE THAN 180 DAYS TEMPORARY RESIDENT STUDENT MIGRATORY FORM Students staying in Mexico more than 180 days, must have a Temporary Resident Student Visa, previously obtained in your home country. Once in México your visa must be exchanged for a Temporary Resident Student Migratory Form (also known as FM3) When this exchange process has finished, you must deliver a copy to the International Programs Office

16 PROCESS TO OBTAIN A TEMPORARY RESIDENT STUDENT FORM PREREQUISITES At your arrival to Mexico, immigration officials should have given you a Multiple Migratory Form (FMM), marking the following options: Visitor without permission for doing paid activities/ Visitante sin permiso para actividades remuneradas Exchange/ Canje 30 days

18 PROCESS TO OBTAIN A TEMPORARY RESIDENT STUDENT FORM PREREQUISITES: With your Temporary Resident Student Visa and the FMM marked correctly, you must finalize the process to obtain your Temporary Resident Student Form by submitting the following documents at the Immigration National Institute: Fill out and print the online application (available at: Original passport and copy Original Forma Migratoria Múltiple (FMM) and a copy Print and complete the document called Basic Format/ Formato Básico

19 PROCESS TO OBTAIN A TEMPORARY RESIDENT STUDENT FORM PREREQUISITES 2 frontal pictures and 1 right profile picture (3 in total), size 2.5cm X 3cm.:, white background, forehead and ears uncovered, no earrings, no eyeglasses. No instant pictures permitted. Utility bill (water, electricity, telephone), original and 2 copies (to prove where you live) Registration letter, given by International Programs Office

22 PROCESS TO OBTAIN A TEMPORARY RESIDENT STUDENT FORM PREREQUISITES When you submit the requirements to the immigration office, you will be given a Proof of Registration Receipt/ Comprobante de Registro de Solicitud NUT that you must keep. With that document you will obtain the Temporary Resident Student Form that validates your legal stay in Mexico. There s no charge for doing this process. The average response time is 4 weeks.

23 PROCESS TO OBTAIN A TEMPORARY RESIDENT STUDENT FORM IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS You only have 30 calendar days from the day you enter into Mexico to do this process; the date of entry is stamped on your FMM. Not doing this process in time will void your legal stay in Mexico, and therefore, your studies at Tec. Once you get this card, you are required to notify the International Programs Office by presenting a copy of it.
