2 Introduction The Graduate School of the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú offers graduate studies toward the attainment of a Master s Degree in Civil Engineering. This program is aimed at professionals interested in deepening their knowledge in Civil Engineering, with a specialization in the area of Structural Engineering. 3 Objectives Produce highly-skilled professionals for the development and execution of engineering and research projects. Deepen students knowledge in matters related to the design, assessment, and construction of civil engineering projects. Develop research skills through the preparation of analytical or experimental projects. Stimulate the development and implementation of new technologies for the solution of national problems. 4 Duration Study Plan For students beginning their master s program starting in 2014, the maximum term for the completion of their studies is four years. This term may be extended for one additional year based on the favorable opinion of the thesis advisor and the program director. Students must accumulate 48 credits* in all: 28 in mandatory courses and 20 in elective courses, one of which may be in another specialty. 8 Obtaining the Degree The Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú awards the academic degree of Master in Civil Engineering to those who fulfill the following requirements: Pass the courses of the corresponding study plan. Accredit knowledge of the English language at the level required by the university according to the Regulations for the Accreditation of Language Knowledge before the Units. Defend and pass Master s thesis before a jury, in an event open to the public. As an alternative to the thesis, students may submit an article apt for publication in an indexed journal. Comply with all institutional rules of a general nature and those special rules applicable to the Graduate School. The PUCP s Graduate School gives out the Graduate Diploma in Structural Engineering to all students or former students of the Master s Program in Civil Engineering that have passed a minimum of 27 credits, once the corresponding paperwork has been completed. 8 MaestríasPUCP

9 Economic Information The total cost of the program is S/. 30,026.* Forms of Payment 2. Lump Sum Payments 1. Payment by Invoice The program s courses have a credit value. The credit is the number of class hours for each course. The student s payment for each semester is determined based on the number of credits for which the student is registered. The cost of each credit in this program is S/ , which corresponds to Scale B in our tuition system. The university issues 5 payment invoices each semester. The first invoice is always issued for the value of 2 credits, plus registration fees, which cost S/. 99 in this case. The rest of the invoices are issued for the remaining value (Article 2 of the Regulations on the Payment of Ordinary Academic Fees). If the student wishes to pay the total program cost in one lump sum, a 5% discount is offered. This discount may be combined with other benefits. The amount to be paid is S/. 28,525.* Download the conditions applicable to this payment method» Outside Financing Students may finance their studies through external financial institutions that offer variable financing amounts and possibilities for longerterm payments. For example, if the student registers for 12 credits per semester, he will pay: INVOICE 1 S/. 1,334 INVOICES 2 5 S/. 1,543 ea. The university offers a 10% discount, which may not be combined with other discounts, to PUCP graduates. It also has a scholarship program for outstanding students. Amount is referential. 10 Acceptance Evaluation The program will contact applicants in due time to specify dates and schedules. Entry Exam The exam consists of a written test and a personal interview. The written test covers basic knowledge of statics, resistance of materials, structural analysis, reinforced concrete, steel, and earthquake engineering. Evaluation of Academic Competencies for the Graduate Program (ECAP) This exam is aimed at identifying the skill levels of students of the Graduate School. It does not determine whether or not the applicant will be accepted to the graduate program. It is only one part of the admission process. Original certificate of university studies. Curriculum vitae with photo (nondocumented). Uncertified copy of National Identity Card (DNI) or birth certificate. Foreign applicants may submit an uncertified copy of their passport. Two letters of recommendation from the student s professors or recognized academics or professionals. 10 MaestríasPUCP

11 PUCP graduates shall submit: An uncertified copy of their bachelor s degree, instead of the notarized copy. Uncertified copy of their certificate of studies or a printout of their academic transcript downloaded from the Campus Virtual, instead of the original certificate of studies. Applicants who have studied abroad shall submit: The degrees or titles obtained abroad, and the corresponding certificates of studies. These documents shall be certified in either of the following two forms: By the competent official of the country where the studies were followed, via The Hague Apostille. By the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which requires the signature of the Peruvian consul in the country where the studies were followed. These documents shall be attached to the registration form. Afterwards, only those students accepted into the program must present the physical documents. MaestríasPUCP 11
