It is our honor and pleasure to have you here during the International Symposium on Controversies in Endocrine Surgery and Translational Research. The Haukeland University Hospital has a long tradition and high expertise in Endocrine Surgery which is dated back to the early 1970-ies when Peter Heimann, one of the founders of the International Association of Endocrine Surgeons, established a Section for Breast and Endocrine Surgery which was the first in. Endocrine Surgery is a developing and changing specialty. During this conference we will discuss the chances for cooperation with basic science (translational research), the future challenges regarding competition with other specialties, and current controversies concerning diagnosis and treatment of diseases within the field of Endocrine Surgery.
