INTERNATIONAL SKATING UNION Communication No. 1629 ISU WORLD STANDINGS FOR SINGLE & PAIR SKATING AND ICE DANCE ISU SEASON S WORLD RANKING (Replaces ISU Communication 1460) During its recent meeting, the ISU Council decided to implement two types of World Standings/Ranking, namely the ISU World Standings which is taking into account results of the preceding two seasons and the current season and remains the basis for the draws at ISU Events and part of the criteria for the selection of competitors for the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating and other ISU Events designated by the Council. and the ISU Season s World Ranking which is based on the results of the current ongoing season only. It has the main purpose to reflect the current competitive performances of the skaters and give the public and the media an indication of the current actual competitiveness of the skaters. Compared to Communication No. 1460, specific changes have been applied in item C.1.6. for clarification and item C.4 (Distribution of points for ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships and ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final) which now reflect better the weight between all events valid for ISU World Standings /ISU Season s World Ranking points. 1

A. ISU WORLD STANDINGS FOR SINGLE & PAIR SKATING AND ICE DANCE (valid and officially used for all draws and as a skater s selection criteria for the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating and other ISU Events designated by the Council) 1. OBJECTIVES To present an objective and accountable standings system for all skaters in Single & Pair Skating and Ice Dance during a particular season which takes into account the results of the preceding two seasons ensuring that skaters who were unable to compete for a certain period of time remain in the World Standings and are considered according to their true basic competitiveness. The ISU World Standings are used as basis for all draws in ISU Events as well as one of the skaters selection criteria for the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating and other ISU Events designated by the Council. 2. PRINCIPLES 2.1 Based on results of the preceding two seasons and the current season, weighted with a different percentage (factor) see paragraph C.2.4; 2.2 The amount of points to score for each competitor/couple depends on 2.2.1 the final placement; 2.2.2 the total amount of points designated for that particular event. 2.3 Within the preceding two seasons and the current season the following events will be considered for the ISU World Standings order, season s factors as per C.1. to be considered: 2.3.1 ISU Championships and Olympic Winter Games: The best result by points per season; the best two results by points over a period not longer than 2 completed 2.3.2 ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating and Final: The two best results by points per season; the best four results by points over a period not longer than 2 completed 2.3.3 ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating and Final: The two best results by points per season; the best four results by points over a period not longer than 2 completed 2.3.4 International Senior Calendar Competitions: The two best results by points per season; the best four results by points over a period not longer than 2 completed 2.3.5 For Pairs either the ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating or the ISU (Senior) Grand Prix of Figure Skating will be considered for points. The applicable events will be based on the two best results by points per season; the best four results by points over a period not longer than 2 completed 2.3.6 After the current season s ISU World Figure Skating Championships, the longest standing results (i.e. those from 3 seasons before the current season) will be deleted. 2.4 Pairs and Ice Dance couples with a new partner will start with 0 points. There is no transfer of points to either partner; the previous partnership will be removed from the World Standings. 2.5 The ISU World Standings order will be updated after each event mentioned in paragraph C.1. 2.6 Only eligible persons will be considered in the ISU World Standings. 2

B. ISU SEASON S WORLD RANKING (to reflect the ranking taking into account results of the current season only) 1. OBJECTIVES To present to the public at large and the media, an acceptable and accountable standings system of all skaters in Single & Pair Skating and Ice Dance for the current season giving an indication of the current actual competitiveness of the skaters. As this ranking order does not protect skaters who were unable to participate in events of the previous season(s), only the World Standings System as introduced under paragraph A. of this Communication shall be used as the basis for the draws at ISU Event and as a critieria for the skaters selection for the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating and other ISU Events designated by the Council. 2. PRINCIPLES 2.1 Based on results of the current season. 2.2 The amount of points to score for each competitor/couple depends on 2.2.1 the final placement; 2.2.2 the total amount of points designated for that particular event. 2.3 Within the period as indicated above, the following events will be considered for the ranking order: 2.3.1 ISU Championships and Olympic Winter Games: The best result by points of the current season; 2.3.2 ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating and Final: The two best results by points of the current season; 2.3.3 ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating and Final: The two best results by points of the current season; 2.3.4 International Senior Competitions: The two best results by points of the current season; 2.3.5 For Pairs either the Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating or the Senior Grand Prix of Figure Skating will be considered for points. The applicable event will be based on the two best results by points of the current season. 2.4 Pairs and Ice Dance couples with a new partner will start with 0 points. There is no transfer of points to either partner; the previous partnership will be removed from the ISU Season s World Ranking. 2.5 The ISU Season s World Ranking order will be updated after each event mentioned in paragraph C.1. 2.6 Only eligible persons will be considered in the ISU Season s World Ranking. 3
