2 D. QUALIFICATION PATHWAY The qualification events are listed in hierarchical order of qualification. MEN Number of Quota places 1 Qualification Events IHF Men s World Championship 2015, Qatar (16 January 01 February 2015)* The NOC of the 2015 World Champion will qualify one (1) quota place for the Olympic Games. In case Brazil as Host Country will be World Champion, the quota place will go to the runner-up. 4 Continental Qualification Events (July 2015 January 2016) Each confederation of the IHF will be represented at the Olympic Games with at least one (1) team. The continental representatives from Asia, Africa, Europe and Pan-America will be the NOCs of the best ranked team at the respective Continental Qualification event. In the event that the 2015 World Champion or the Host Country of the 2016 Olympic Games also wins the Continental Qualification, the NOC of the second-ranked team of the respective Continental Qualification event will obtain the quota place. Continental Qualification events: - Men s Pan-American Qualification event: July 2015 in Toronto, Canada - Men s Asian Qualification event: October 2015 (exact dates and place TBD) - Men s European Qualification event: January 2016 in Poland - Men s African Qualification event: January 2016 (exact dates and place TBD) Men s Olympic Qualification Tournament (07 10 April 2016) Six (6) quota places will be allocated through three (3) tournaments of four (4) teams. The best ranked team (QS1) and next best ranked team (QS5) at the respective Continental Qualification event not yet qualified and not yet selected to participate in the IHF QS 2 to 4 are allocated to the second (QS2), third (QS3) and fourth (QS4) best placed continents at the 2015 World Championship. The best ranked teams at the respective Continental Qualification event not yet qualified and not yet selected to participate in the IHF QS 6: If any team from Oceania is ranked between 8 th 12 th at the 2015 World Championship, this Qualification slot will be allocated to the best NOC at the Oceania Qualification event not yet qualified. If this is not the case, this Qualification slot will be allocated to second best ranked continent at the 2015 World Championship, in addition to QS2. The NOC of the best ranked team at the respective Continental Qualification event, not yet qualified, will be allocated the Qualification slot. *Dates and places may be subject to modifications. WOMEN Number of Quota places 1 Qualification Events IHF Women s World Championship 2015, Denmark (04 20 December 2015)* The NOC of the 2015 World Champion will qualify one (1) quota place for the Olympic Games. 5 HOST COUNTRY PLACES The Host Country is guaranteed one (1) quota place per gender. E. CONFIRMATION PROCESS FOR QUOTA PLACES Following each Qualification event, the IHF will publish the results here. The IHF will inform the respective NOCs/NFs of their allocated quota place(s) and ask the respective NOCs to confirm their quota place by the deadlines set below: Men The Host NOC must confirm their participation to the IHF by 31 December The qualified NOCs from the IHF Men s World Championship 2015 must confirm their participation to the IHF by 10 February The qualified NOCs from the Continental Qualification events must confirm their participation to the IHF by 15 February The qualified NOCs from the IHF Men s Olympic Qualification Tournaments must confirm their participation to the IHF at the same time when registering the team(s) for the IHF Olympic Qualification Tournaments, namely by 10 February Women The Host NOC must confirm their participation to the IHF by 31 December The qualified NOCs from the Continental Qualification events must confirm their participation to the IHF by 15 February The qualified NOCs from the IHF Women s World Championship 2015 must confirm their participation to the IHF by 10 January The qualified NOCs from the IHF Women s Olympic Qualification Tournaments must confirm their participation to the IHF at the same time when registering the team(s) for the IHF Olympic Qualification Tournaments, namely by 10 February Page 5/7

REALLOCATION OF UNUSED QUOTA PLACES REALLOCATION OF UNUSED QUALIFICATION PLACES If a quota place allocated is not confirmed by the NOC by the confirmation of quota place deadline or is declined by the NOC, the quota place will be reallocated to the next best ranked NOC, not yet qualified at the event where the initial quota place was obtained. REALLOCATION OF UNUSED HOST COUNTRY PLACES Unused Host Country place(s) will be allocated to the continent of the 2015 World Champion (Men / Women) and allocated to the best ranked NOC from this continent, which has not yet qualified at the corresponding Continental Qualification event. G. GENERAL PRINCIPLES REGARDING THE USE OF P ALTERNATE ATHLETES P ALTERNATE ATHLETES P alternate athletes are non-competing athletes, and are not included within the athlete s quota as described in Paragraph B. Athletes Quota. More detailed information about entitlements and quotas can be found in the Accreditation at the Olympic Games Users Guide. P alternate athletes can only become competing athletes as per the conditions outlined in the IOC/Rio 2016 Late Athlete Replacement policy. Eligibility: P alternate athletes must comply with the same eligibility rules as competing athletes as described in above paragraph C. Athlete Eligibility.
