RBS/WDKA/PZ/ Full time and Exchange Student s visa application Visa application procedure via the CoIA Permits & Visa Application Procedure What permits are required? Students from outside the EU/EER (Europe) who wish to attend a (pre) bachelor's degree, (pre) master's degree or exchange programme at Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences for more than 3 months are obliged to obtain a permit. Permit types Depending on your situation, you will need one or both of the following permits: MVV = Provisional Residence Permit (also known as an entry visa to enter the Netherlands) VVR = Residence Permit for Study purposes. Students from countries outside the EU/EER (Europe) need an MVV and VVR. Students from Australia, Canada, Japan, Monaco, New Zealand, South Korea, USA, and Vatican City State, only need a VVR. The Centre of International Affairs (CoIA) student support office applies for the MVV and/or VVR from the Immigration Office (IND) before your arrival to the Netherlands. For more information: www.studyinholland.nl or www.ind.nl/en. Before arrival The Student Support office is authorized to apply for an MVV and/or VVR in an accelerated procedure. The Rotterdam University must guarantee that you actually study here and have sufficient funds to cover your living expenses. This also means that if you decide to stop studying at the university, the Student Support office will inform the Dutch Immigration and Naturalization Service (IND) and your residence permit will be revoked. An MVV and/or VVR costs 307.
Sufficient funds In order to get a residence permit, the IND requires proof of sufficient funds. At least 10,000 on a yearly basis for full time students or 5,000 for exchange students. The proof of sufficient funds can be shown in different ways: 1. A Bank statement 2. A scholarship award letter 3. A financial support by a third party 4. Bank transfer to the school bank account Prove of Sufficient Funds by means of a Bank Statement The following conditions must be fulfilled: The bank statement must be stated in English; The bank statement must be in the student's name; The bank statement must be original (not a copy) and include a date. Internet prints must be certified with a date, an original stamp, and signature from your bank; The bank statement must show an amount of at least 10,000 or 5,000 for Exchange students; The bank statement may not be older than 3 months. Prove of Sufficient Funds by means of a scholarship award letter The following conditions must be fulfilled: The award letter must be stated in English; The award letter must state the name of the organization awarding the scholarship; The award letter must state the name of the scholarship programme; The award letter must state the student's name and date of birth; The award letter must be original (not a copy) and include a date, an original stamp, and signature; The award letter must state the amount (at least 10,000 on a yearly basis or 5000 for exchange); The award letter must state the duration of the scholarship (begin and end date).
Financial support by a third party When you are being financially supported by a third party living abroad (eg. family), the following conditions must be fulfilled. A statement from your financier, in which he/she declares the amount of at least 854 will be transferred to your personal bank account on a monthly basis during your stay in The Netherlands. (Statement must include 1. Student s name 2. Start and end date of the financial support 3. Name of financier 4. Monthly amount that would be transferred to student.) A copy of your financer passport And proof that your financer is in the financial position to actually transfer the confirmed amount of money to your personal bank account. For example a recent bank statement and/or an original account specification showing the bank-balance on your financer s account. When you are financially supported by a third party living in The Netherlands, the following conditions must be fulfilled. A guarantor s declaration, completed and signed by your financer An original extract (no copy), not older than 6 months, from the municipal administration (GBA), demonstrating your financer residential address and family composition. Proof of income of your financer: a current employment contract a fully completed and signed employer s declaration (not older than 3 months) wage slips for the past 3 months A copy of your financer s passport and/or residence permit. Bank deposit to the school bank account If you prefer to prove your sufficient funds by bank transfer to the school bank account, you will receive an invoice from our financial department with the amount indicated. A month after arrival at the Rotterdam University, we will inform you how this deposit will be refunded. Please be aware that the refund procedure takes about 3-6 weeks. You will not have access to the amount before that.
MVV / VVR procedure When you are admitted for a study programme at the Rotterdam University, you will be informed about the MVV / VVR procedure by the Student Support office, team Exchange or the Institution you will be studying in. Information for Chinese students: Nuffic certificate requirement Students with a Chinese nationality must provide a Nuffic certificate before we apply for an MVV/VVR for the student. The Nuffic certificate must be applied for by the student via the online application system. Payments (tuition and/or visa fee) Antecedent certificate Statement of understanding (full time students only) Proof of sufficient funds (non EU students only) Room reservation form (full time students only if applicable) Nuffic certificate (for Chines students only) The deadline for the receipt of all documents including payments is 15 July 2015. Please take the deadlines into account because we need to apply for the visa and/or resident permit on time to avoid delay. 1. From this moment, the Administration Officers and/or Team Exchange will keep you/the agent informed about the visa procedures. The Dutch Immigration Service (IND) usually sends out a positive advice in favour of issuing your MVV and/or VVR within 3 weeks. The Student Support office informs you when you can make an appointment with the Dutch embassy / consulate to pick up the MVV. 2. You make travel arrangements to come to the Netherlands. We strongly advise students not to book a flight until the MVV is been approved.

If you reserved a room in our student dormitory, you must inform the Student Support office about the date and time of arrival in the Netherlands (flight details) so that a pick-up service can be provided. (Only for full time students. NOT Exchange) 4. The Student Support office will welcome all international students to the Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences during the mandatory Introduction days. During the introduction days, you will be informed about further procedures. There will be a workshop to assist you with filling out the forms for the administration in the municipality of Rotterdam (GBA) and the further registration at the Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences. Note: Only students who will be staying in the Netherlands for more than 4 months are required to register at the Dutch municipality (city hall). If your stay is less than that, you don t need to. International student already residing in the Netherlands COP (Change of Purpose) If you are already residing in the Netherlands and wish to change the purpose of your VVR to that of study, to begin a study programme at the Rotterdam University, you will need to apply for a Change of Purpose (COP). Even when the resident permit card is still valid, a COP is required. The Student Support office will apply for the COP on your behalf. The costs are 307. Extension A residence permit is generally issued for the duration of your study programme at the Rotterdam University. If you are staying longer than the indicated period on the resident permit, you will have to extend your residence permit before the expiry date. The Student Support office offers a residence permit extension service whereby they will apply for an extension on your behalf. However, it is your responsibility to inform the office on time. Usually 3 months before the expiry date. The costs for an extension is 154.
