1 INFORMATION FOR USE IN COMPLETING THE FINANCIAL RESOURCES STATEMENT Under the regulations of the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service, the University of Michigan is required to obtain proof that you have adequate financial resources (exclusive of travel expenses) to support yourself and any accompanying dependents for the duration of your program here. We must be assured that funds are fully documented for the first year of study, and that funding for subsequent years will be available from the same or equally dependable sources. Thus, your certificate of eligibility for a U.S. visa will not be issued until (1) the enclosed Financial Resources Statement has been completed and returned (2) the original supporting bank statements have been received (3) if you are currently in the U.S. on a F visa you must also send a copy of your most recent I-20, DS-2019 or I-94 card and (4) a copy of your passport. You are required to state and certify the availability of US $65, for your expenses for the first year, exclusive of travel to and from the U.S. All documents must be in English; translations must be signed and sealed by the appropriate government or bank official. All supporting documentation must be dated within one year of your initial intended enrollment in the U.S. Every document must include the name of the student for whom the funds are being made available. Normally a master's or specialist degree requires two academic (University) years of study. Each University year consists of two terms, fall and winter. Under ideal conditions it is sometimes possible to complete a program in one University year (two terms). If you expect to complete your program in less than two University years, attach a detailed explanation. Expenses for one term are half the figure for the University year. Deficiencies in English or in academic preparation will lengthen your period of study. Tuition and fees are subject to change at any time by the Regents of the University. Students and/or sponsors are responsible for meeting any increases in tuition and expenses. Plan for an annual increase for all costs of approximately 5-10%. Living expenses include room and board and personal expenses. The totals shown here represent the minimum estimated costs of your program under the most favorable conditions. DUE DATE: May 15.
