3 INTRODUCTION Bachelor in Business Management International Business (BM-IBS) is open to all students, wherever you come from. In this brochure, we will give you an overview of the admission requirements and the enrolment procedure. Read through it carefully and should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. You will find all contact details in the back of this brochure. We hope to welcome you next academic year as one of our excellent BM-IBS students! 2 APPLICATION DEADLINES & ADDRESSES For the academic year : Start : December 8 th, 2014 End : September 10 th, 2015 The number of study places in BM-IBS is limited. If you have to apply for visa, the procedure takes some time. Therefore: SEND IN YOUR APPLICATION AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. Students from EEA-countries 1 can enroll through advanced application : if you can graduate in high school (at the latest) in July 2015, you can already apply before receiving the high school certificate. 4 3 ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS You will be accepted as an BM-IBS student if: 1. your secondary education (high school) degree gives you access to higher education in your home country; (for required documents see Enrolment Procedure 4.1 and 4.2) 2. you meet the English language requirements: a. CEFR level B2 b. IELTS level 6.0 c. TOEFL ibt 87 d. TOEIC 720 (see button Admission for Language Test information) 4/11

5 4 ENROLMENT PROCEDURE 4.1 Steps STEPS BY: YOU KdG ADMINISTRATION STEP 1 Prepare the required documents. STEP 2 Send in the application. STEP 3 STEP 4 Document check. Letter stating: EITHER: if ok Accepted OR: Accepted under condition.... STEP 5 If accepted under condition language test : take the language test and send in the certificate. STEP 6 STEP 7 STEP 8 STEP 9 STEP 10 STEP 11 STEP 12 STEP 13 Pay 250 pre-enrolment fee to confirm your enrolment. (see p.9) EEA-students advanced procedure: send in high school certificate. Others: step 11 EEA-students: apply for reduced fee (social/finance reasons) if entitled. Pay the invoice. Sign study contract. (at the latest upon arrival) If ok, letter of acceptance is sent. If not ok, retake the test and step 5. You receive confirmation of enrolment. Invoice remaining tuition fee is sent. YOUR ENROLMENT IS FINAL Your application will be checked on both completeness and validity. Your dossier will only be treated if all required documents are attached. So please make sure you add all documents immediately, this will speed up the procedure considerably. 5/11

6 If the application is considered valid, you will receive an with a provisional acceptance and an invitation to pay an advance on the tuition fee. Once we have received this payment, you are on the (limited) list of students for the IBS programme. Your enrolment is final when we have received all documents, the full tuition fee has been paid, and your study contract is signed. From that point on, you can make all practical arrangements, e.g. applying for visa, finding an apartment, etc. 4.2 Required documents: students from EEA countries 2 KdG Application Form You start your application by filling out the application form. This document can be downloaded at (admission). Degree/Certificate Secondary Education Add a copy of your secondary education degree to your application. Should this document be in a language other than Dutch, French, English or German, send in a copy translated by a sworn translator into one of these languages. All details concerning legalisation of documents: see 4.3 (remark bottom page 8). Advanced Procedure EEA-students If you have not yet obtained a secondary degree that gives access to higher education, but expect to do so at the end of the educational year, you can already apply. In this case you add a declaration of your current educational institution stating that you can graduate in the present educational year. After graduation, you must present the degree/certificate before August 20 th to be fully admitted to the programme (if all other requirements are fulfilled). 4.1 STEP 9 Copy of Your Identity Card or Passport You will need to provide a copy of your identity card or international passport and/or proof of registration at the Belgian Foreign Affairs Office. 7 4.3 Required documents: students from non EEA countries 3 For translations and legalizations: see remark bottom page 8 KdG Application Form You start your application by filling out the application form. This document can be downloaded at (admission). Degree/Certificate Secondary Education Add a copy of your secondary education degree to your application. Should this document be in a language other than Dutch, French, English or German, send in a copy translated by a sworn translator into one of these languages. Add a Declaration from Ministry of Education of home country stating that your certificate of secondary education (high school) gives access to higher education in your home country. NOTE: in case you already reside in Belgium, ask for this document at the embassy of your home country in Brussels. OR (in case your secondary education degree/certificate is missing or has not been validated by the Ministry of Education) Degree/Certificate Higher Education Students who have already completed any type of higher education in their home country, can attach a copy of the degree or certificate proving that they were registered as a university student or as a student of an institution of higher education. These documents also need to be translated by a sworn translator into Dutch, French, English or German. In case such documents can be presented, there is no need for the secondary degree/certificate to be acknowledged by the Ministry of Education or embassy of the home country. Copy of Your Identity Card / Passport You will need to provide a copy of your identity card, international passport and/or proof of registration at the Belgian Foreign Affairs Office. English Language Certificate Details are explained in document Language Requirements on website. APS (China only) All students with a Chinese degree who want to study at a Belgian higher education institution are obliged to obtain an APS-certificate of academic 3 non EEA: all countries other than 28 EU-member states + Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway 7/11

8 screening. Moreover, an APS-certificate is a condition for obtaining a student visa at the Belgian Embassy or Consulates General in the PR China. This certificate is issued by The Academic Evaluation Centre (APS) of the German Embassy in Beijing. The APS screening is not an academic selection procedure, but is meant to avoid document fraud and to guarantee a sufficient mastery of the English language. Please note that an APS-certificate is required but that it is not a binding document, nor is it sufficient to grant access to any higher education institute in Belgium. Chinese applicants should add the APS-certificate to their application. Students should start the procedure by themselves before applying at KdG by contacting [email protected]. Legalisation may be required for certificates/degrees issued in some non EEA countries. For more specific information regarding procedures per country, we refer to the website of the Belgian Foreign Affairs Department (Select document group 'other documents drawn up or legalized by a competent local authority ). 8/11

9 5 EXEMPTIONS FOR SPECIFIC COURSES 5.1 Concept Some students may have already passed some courses in other degree programmes. If the content of these courses matches with the content of the BM-IBS courses, you may be granted exemptions or so called previously acquired qualifications. These are credit certificates for any domestic or foreign study certificates indicating that you successfully passed courses in a higher educational degree programme. Getting an exemption means that you do not have to take the exam of that particular course or part of that course. 5.2 Procedure You can apply for previously acquired qualifications on your arrival. You will need to provide us with: - a transcript of records of your previous degree programme - a content table of the courses you already passed - if possible, an ECTS-guide which gives us insight in the evaluation and goals of each course. Make sure you have all these document with you when applying for Exemptions for Specific Courses. 6 TUITION FEE The annual tuition fee will presumably be 4 : EEA 5 citizens 890 Foreign citizens non-eea and foreign citizens residing in Belgium with a study or work permit 3500 Foreign citizens non-eea residing in Belgium with another permit 890 (if applicable you attach necessary proof of the recognized status as a political refugee or proof that the application to start the procedure of political refugee has been submitted) 4 Based on the tuition fee of Subject to change. 5 EEA: all 28 EU-member states + Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway 9/11

10 Once the pre-enrolment fee of 250 (STEP 8) is paid, your place in the programme is reserved. In case acceptance conditions are not fulfilled or the application is cancelled, this administrative fee will not be refunded. Supplementary educational materials such as course books are not included. 7 VISA Students coming from the EEA countries 6, Monaco or Switzerland don t need a visa. They may travel to Belgium on the strength of their national passport or identity card. All other students should apply for a visa before coming to Belgium. Authorisation to stay in Belgium for more than 3 months will be granted to foreign students wishing to pursue higher education here as a regular student. The application procedure is the same for all students, regardless of nationality. When staying for more than three months, you will have to apply for a long-stay visa, also called a D-visa. There are two procedures, depending on the country where you are lodging your application. More information on the procedure and necessary documents can be found on: and Note: You will need a notification from KdG that you are accepted as a regular student in the BM-IBS programme to lodge visa. Even if you have only been accepted provisionally, you can already apply for visa, provided the conditions for you to be fully accepted are stated in the provisionally acceptance notification. Note: It can take up to 3 months before your visa is granted. Start the application on time to make sure you arrive in Belgium before our academic year starts. Exceptions are allowed if you hold a passport or a residence permit for a Schengen country. Please contact the embassy or consulate for more information. 6 List of EEA countries : 10/11

11 8 RESIDENCE PERMIT If you are planning on living in the city of Antwerp during your stay, in most cases you will need to register as an Antwerp Citizen at the Migration Office. You will need to do this after your arrival in Antwerp. We will inform you and help you with the registration as soon as you are accepted for enrolment.
