Speakers Committee Job Descriptions Speakers Liaison Research and screen candidates for potential speakers Secure dynamic and diverse speakers who equally represent the Ryerson community and the ideas surrounding the community Maintain consistent and professional communication with assigned speakers before, during, and after the event Meet with assigned speakers on a regular basis to help them shape their Talk and the execution of their Talk to ensure a high quality presentation at the conference Give feedback to speakers while still maintaining professionalism Act as a judge and coach to offer speakers honest feedback and constructive advice Assist in the development of customized speaker packages for prospective speakers Collaborate with the speakers to create moving and educational TED talks Good professionalism Good communication skills, particularly verbal and written A good active listener Ability to identify opportunities and generate prospects Good research skills and experience Highly knowledgeable of how TED talks are organized and presented Confident and approachable personality Excellent public speaking and presentational skills are beneficial
Finance Committee Job Descriptions Account Manager Be a liaison between the Finance Steering and potential sources of funding around campus Schedule and manage funding presentations and requests to various funding pools Maintain the TEDxRyersonU budget and ensure all inflow and outflows are managed Provide support to Finance Steering where available Be a point of contact internally for any costs incurred by the various units of the team Good professionalism, verbal, written, listening and public speaking skills Excellent time management skills Previous experience managing finances is an asset
Productions Committee Job Descriptions Event Manager Assist in planning, developing and executing all aspects of the conference while ensuring the event runs smoothly Work closely with the Productions Steering Lead to coordinate logistics and create detailed plans for the day of the event Responsible for set-up and take-down Tasks may center around catering, entertainment, venues, or other event details Work well in a team and independently Capable of taking initiative and completing tasks on time Previous event planning experience is an asset Must be calm and capable under pressure and deadlines Technology Manager Control the soundboard mixer, amplifiers on the event day Troubleshoot and repair audio issues Perform run-throughs and checks before the event day Knowledge of online streaming set-up, take down, and execution Work with video cameras to ensure the best viewing angles for the audience Set-up for the live projectors Control the monitor input between the cameras and the projectors as well as the computer and projector connections Previous knowledge of audio systems, microphones, video cameras, and online streaming Capable of handling constructive criticism Ability to work under pressure
Set Designer Responsible for designing the TEDxRyersonU stage in a creative and eye-catching manner Display creativity in designing the structure(s) to represent the brand and theme of the conference and gathering appropriate materials for building Work weekly in the summer and early September to complete execution of design Set-up stage and help take down Previous knowledge of set design an asset Background in Architecture, Interior Design, or Engineering an asset Ability to think outside of the box in terms of design Capable of handling constructive criticism Detail-oriented Portfolio of work is an asset
Marketing Committee Job Descriptions Social Media Manager Responsible for all communications via social media networks while representing TEDxRyersonU Set up daily activity for all social media outlets Develop as well as execute innovative and creative media content that represents TEDxRyersonU across the social media platforms Report to Marketing Steering Lead and collaborate with all content creation team members to ensure a cohesive social media identity Understanding and knowledge of various social media networks Excellent written communication skills with emphasis on proofreading and grammar excellence Highly organized and able to develop concrete schedules Previous social media management is an asset Technical Skills: Hootsuite/TweetDeck Graphic Designer Develop concepts and designs to be presented by visual communications media such as but not limited to posters, flyers, brochures, booklets, social media banners and newsletter Ensure all design for promotional material is consistent with the TEDxRyersonU branding Collaborate with all content creation team members to ensure a cohesive visual identity Strictly follow the TEDx branding guidelines Assist in designing the TEDxRyersonU magazine Highly proficient with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) Creative and detail-orientated Ability to multi-task and meet tight deadlines Capable of handling constructive criticism and rejection Previous graphic designing experience is an asset
Digital Content Manager Create, edit and administer innovative and inspirational writing on a regular basis in the form of blogs that are relevant to the conference theme Conduct frequent research for blog post topics Measure and track the effectiveness of all content based on feedbacks and reviews Collaborate with all content curation team members to ensure a cohesive online identity Add content to the website and work with the company that manages and maintains the website to ensure all content is up to date and to our liking Possess engaging conversational writing skills and a professional posture Ability to create, compose and edit written materials Excellent written communication skills with emphasis on proofreading and grammar excellence Previous written content creation experience is an asset Ability to work to a deadline Photography Lead Take and plan the composition of all photos taken throughout the year and during the event Lead the photographers by coordinating equipment and placement/focus during events Make sure photographers are following through with their responsibilities and get all photos taken in a timely manner after events Take and plan the composition of all photos taken throughout the year and during the event Employ the use of diverse techniques and photographic expertise Facilitate and coordinate unique photo campaigns with a wide range of photographic styles Produce and coordinate a photo series of the speakers Vast expertise in photographic principles Experience leading other photographers and/or managing a team Creative with an eye for a picture Advanced knowledge of Photoshop and other editing software Previous photography experience is an asset
