Electrical Characteristics: In accordance with Div 26 2.4 KITCHEN HOOD A. Provide Greenheck Exhaust Hood Model GHEW as shown on plans or Captive Aire and in accordance with the following specification: B. Kitchen Ventilation hood(s) shall be of the Type I, exhaust only wall canopy suitable for all types of cooking applications. The hood shall be U. L. Listed without fire damper for 400 F, 600 F, or 700 F rated cooking appliances. Make-up shall be independently provided. C. The hood exterior shall be constructed of a minimum of 18 ga stainless steel with a #4 Kool line finish. The hood shall be constructed using the standing seam method for optimum strength. Front panels shall be of single wall construction. An integral 3 in air space is provided to meet NFPA 96 clearance requirements against limited combustible walls. All seams, joints and penetrations of the hood enclosure shall be welded and/or liquid tight. Lighter material gauges, alternate material types and finishes are not acceptable. All unexposed interior surfaces shall be constructed of a minimum 18 ga corrosion resistant steel including, but not limited to ducts, plenum, and brackets. D. The hood shall include a filter housing constructed of the same material as the hood. The filters shall be aluminum baffle type, U. L. 1046 Classified, and in sufficient number and sizes to ensure optimum performance as specified by the filter manufacturer. The filter housing shall terminate in a pitched, full length concealed grease trough which shall drain into a removable grease container. E. Vaporproof, U. L. Listed incandescent light fixtures shall be prewired to a junction box located at the top of the hood for field connection. Wiring shall conform to the requirements of the National Electrical Code (NEC #70 - Latest Edition). F. The canopy hood shall be constructed by Greenheck. They shall be built in accordance with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Bulletin #96, International Mechanical Code (IMC), HVAC FANS 233400-4
International Conference of Building Officials (ICBO), Building Officials and Code Administrators (BOCA), Southern Building Code Congress International (SBCCI), and bear the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) Seal of Approval. The hood manufacturer shall provide, on request, the necessary data that confirms compliance with the code authorities listed above. The hood volume shall be calculated utilizing a computerized thermal updraft velocity method or based upon the current mechanical building code requirements for the location of the jobsite. G. The hood system shall include a remote mounted factory engineered and pre-piped, U.L. Listed, Wet Chemical, ANSUL R-102 fire suppression system. The system piping shall be installed in the hood at the time of construction by Greenheck. Piping shall be installed above the hood or within the supply plenum and shall be concealed from view. No exposed piping is acceptable, with the exception of appliance drops. A certified local Ansul distributor shall be selected by the factory for final system hook-up. The hood manufacturer shall be responsible for the coordination between the contractor and the Ansul distributor for the final field hook-up and certification of the fire suppression system. H. The system shall be capable of automatic detection and actuation and/or remote manual actuation. The system shall have the fire suppression capabilities to protect the duct, plenum, filter area and cooking equipment. Accessories shall be available for mechanical or electrical gas line shut-off applications and a double-pole, double-throw micro switch for activation of a shunt trip breaker (provided by others) for electrical equipment. The system shall also include the release assembly, agent tank, detectors, fusible links, liquidtight fittings, remote manual pull station, and schedule 40 black iron pipe with optional chrome sleeving for exposed areas. PART 3 EXECUTION 3.1 EXAMINATION A. Division 1 - Administrative Requirements: Coordination and project conditions. B. Verify roof curbs are installed and dimensions are as shown on shop drawings and as instructed by manufacturer. 3.2 PREPARATION A. Furnish roof curbs for installation. B. Roof equipment shall be painted to match roof color. Protect all labels, switches and access handles and knobs. 3.3 INSTALLATION A. Secure fans and gravity ventilators with cadmium plated steel lag screws to roof curb or structure. B. Install backdraft dampers on inlet to roof exhaust fans and gravity ventilators used in relief air applications. C. Provide backdraft dampers on outlet from cabinet and ceiling fans and as indicated on Drawings. HVAC FANS 233400-5
D. Install safety screen where inlet or outlet is exposed. E. Pipe scroll drains to nearest floor drain. F. Provide sheaves required for final air balance. G. All roof exhausters and curb sheet metal shall be painted to match roof color including curb sheet metal. Protect fan nameplate. Apply fan identification tag after painting. 3.4 MANUFACTURER'S FIELD SERVICES A. Furnish services of factory trained representative to start-up, calibrate controls, and instruct Owner on operation and maintenance. 3.5 CLEANING A. Vacuum clean coils and inside of fan cabinet. 3.6 DEMONSTRATION A. Demonstrate fan operation and maintenance procedures. 3.7 PROTECTION OF FINISHED WORK A.
