What is this course about? 1.1 Course description Instilling entrepreneurial behaviour into an organisation s practices and culture is a challenge for most established organisations. Changing customer needs, new technologies and agile competitors compel organisations to harness the innovative abilities, talents and passion of their employees. In this course you will explore the foundations of corporate entrepreneurship, learn to develop, design and gather support for new initiatives, determine how to assess corporate entrepreneurship performance and propose ways to integrate innovative behaviour into an organisation. 1.2 Course content foundations of corporate entrepreneurship and innovation: the entrepreneurial imperative, corporate entrepreneurship s contribution, assessing the entrepreneurial orientation of the firm and different forms of corporate entrepreneurship designing entrepreneurial organisations: strategy and entrepreneurship, structuring the company for entrepreneurship, energizing passionate people and human resource practices, and building cultures to support entrepreneurship continuous entrepreneurial performance systems: designing control systems that facilitate entrepreneurship, leading the entrepreneurial organisation, measuring entrepreneurial performance sustaining the entrepreneurial organisation of the 21st century 2. Specific Learning Outcomes On successful completion of this course you should be able to: Assess the innovation challenges within an organisation and propose an initiative to address one of these challenges. Reflect on the implemented intervention (from Task 1) based on your workshops and experience in relation to corporate entrepreneurship theory. Develop recommendations to ensure the sustainability of the suggested initiatives as well as suggestions to improve the entrepreneurial climate within an organisation/team. Product: Essay. Format: Your task is to identify the challenges of remaining relevant and to address the following: The context of the case study. Assess the stage of relevance of the organisation. Identify two core issues inhibiting the potential performance within the organisation and outline the implications of these issues. Criteria Action-focused contribution Application and use of theory Implication of analysis for different parts of the organisation Recommendations to facilitate entrepreneurial behaviour Generic skill assessed Skill assessment level Communication Problem solving Developing Assessment Task 2: Intervention Reflection Goal: The goal of this task is to reflect on the assessment you developed for the case in Task 1, utilizing your workshops and experience with theoretical frameworks. Product: Essay. Format: You will suggest an intervention related to the initiative identified in Task 1, and capture your learning reflections in the form of a 1500 word essay. Criteria Application of CE and innovation theory during the intervention Evidence of preparation, implementation and critical reflection Synthesis of practice and theory Quality of the recommended intervention and reflection Generic skill assessed Skill assessment level Communication Problem solving
Page 4 Assessment Task 3: Report: Recommendations to improve entrepreneurial climate Goal: The goal of this report is to present the business case and outline future action plans to ensure the sustainability of your developed initiative and develop recommendations. Product: Report. Format: This 2000 word report summarises the scope of the implemented initiative and addresses the future sustainability for this initiative for your case. Criteria Business case for the CE and innovation initiative Integration of theory and practice Realistic and convincing recommendations to address identified issues Quality of the report Generic skill assessed Skill assessment level Communication Organisation 5.3 Additional assessment requirements SafeAssign In order to minimise incidents of plagiarism and collusion, this course may require that some of its assessment tasks are submitted electronically via SafeAssign. This software allows for text comparisons to be made between your submitted assessment item and all other work that SafeAssign has access to. If required, details of how to submit via SafeAssign will be provided on the Blackboard site of the course. Eligibility for Supplementary Assessment Your eligibility for supplementary assessment in a course is dependent of the following conditions applying: a) The final mark is in the percentage range 47% to 49.4% b) The course is graded using the Standard Grading scale c) You have not failed an assessment task in the course due to academic misconduct 5.4 Submission penalties Late submission of assessment tasks will be penalised at the following maximum rate: 5% (of the assessment task s identified value) per day for the first two days from the date identified as the due date for the assessment task. 10% (of the assessment task s identified value) for the third day 20% (of the assessment task s identified value) for the fourth day and subsequent days up to and including seven days from the date identified as the due date for the assessment task. A result of zero is awarded for an assessment task submitted after seven days from the date identified as the due date for the assessment task. Weekdays and weekends are included in the calculation of days late. To request an extension you must contact your course coordinator to negotiate an outcome. 6.
