WORK EXPERIENCE UNIVERSITY OF ADELAIDE, 2/2014-Current Adelaide, Australia Dean and Full Professor of Management As Dean, provided the overall strategic direction, academic leadership and management of the School of Business which includes 5500 undergraduate and postgraduate students and over 100 academic and professional staff and budget of $70 million. Also served as Dean of China to provide leadership on developing strategic partnerships to expand our relationships and visibility in China, our most important international market (recruitment, research, exchange, double degrees, alumni and corporate relations). MASSACHUSETTS INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY (MIT), SLOAN SCHOOL OF MANAGEMENT, Cambridge, MA, 1993-1999 + 2013-2014 Director of MBA Program, 1994-99 + Director of Alumni Relations, 1993-94 Executive Director, MIT Center for Collective Intelligence, 2013-14 Directed one of the leading research centers at MIT to develop relationships between academia and industry in key projects including measuring collective intelligence, the collective intelligence genome, collaborative innovation networks, and co-laboratories utilizing the tools of crowd sourcing to formulate solutions to business and societal problems. As Director of the MBA Program at MIT, I was responsible for the overall administration of the MBA Program with enrollment of 717 students. Oversaw all enrollment, and strategic direction of program including operations of the MBA program: academic advising and counseling, 45 student club organizations, orientation, scholarship programs, financial aid and delivery of student services to MBA students. Served on faculty curriculum committee and university committees. Worked closely with university on budgetary policies and planning activities including a new facility. The portfolio includes one of the largest MBA programs for working professionals and executives in the U.S. in Austin, Houston, Dallas and Mexico City with over 900 MBA students. Worked closely with the faculty and corporate clients in the development and delivery of programs. Provided oversight over budget including $35 million in revenue and management of full time staff of 66 employees. Represented school to develop and build new $128 million Executive Education Center with a $25 million lead gift and other external resource base funding. Served as member of the faculty teaching International Management to EMBA students in the University of Texas MBA Program and coordinating the international management global seminars. GOLDEN GATE UNIVERSITY, San Francisco, CA Dean of the School of Business, 2002-2004 Responsible for the management and overall administration of the School of Business including faculty and academic affairs, program management and fiscal oversight. The Business School enrolls over 3000 students and offers an undergraduate BBA degree, BS in Accounting, MBA, Executive MBA and specialized master s degrees in accounting, public administration, finance, financial planning, human resources, marketing, psychology as well as a Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) and executive development programs. With a tradition since 1901, the institution has over 57,000 graduates and has been a pioneer in continuing education for working professionals. Implemented new Executive MBA Program with integrated curriculum, strategic plan, international project and career development plan. Oversaw sequential increases in business school enrollment the last three terms and 15+percent growth in cyber programs. Promoted integration efforts of academic technology and software including web-enhancement of courses, expansion of curriculum for BBA and MBA online, online registration and new teaching methodologies to improve the learning environment. 5

GEORGETOWN UNIVERSITY, SCHOOL OF BUSINESS, Washington, D.C. Associate Dean of the Business School Director of the MBA and Executive MBA Programs, 1999-2001 Directed both the MBA and Executive MBA Programs; responsible for the overall leadership and strategic direction of the programs including all budgetary, planning and operational functions, including admissions, student life, career placement and facilities with total enrollment of 620 students. BIOGRAPHY Professor Lawrence Stephen Abeln (PhD Cambridge) Dean The University of Adelaide Adelaide, Australia Dr. Lawrence Abeln has served as the Dean of The Business School and Dean of China and holds a full Professorship at The University of Adelaide. Founded in 1874, the University of Adelaide is the third oldest university in Australia and a member of its prestigious Group of Eight. The Business School is accredited by AACSB, has 5500 undergraduates and postgraduate students, 100 academic and professional staff and a budget of $70million. In addition to its Bachelor of Commerce program, the school offers an MBA, PhD, a portfolio of Postgraduate specialized Masters Programs, and Executive Education. The school s Accounting & Finance programs rank in the top 50 in QS worldwide rankings. The Business School s MBA ranked #6 nationally by the 2015 Australia Financial Review. As Dean of China, he is responsible for the major strategic initiatives in the region including our key partnerships and growth objectives. Professor Abeln s began his academic career at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He was appointed the Director of the MBA Program at MIT in 1995, at the age of 26, and was the youngest director of any internationally ranked MBA in the world at the time. His academic leadership experience includes directing top ranked MBA, EMBA and Executive Education programs over the last 22 years and as Dean, Deputy Dean and Associate Dean. Dr. Abeln received a Ph.D. in Management and M.Phil. in International Relations from Cambridge University, where he was a Rotary Foundation Scholar and member of Pembroke. He received his undergraduate degree from The University of Pennsylvania where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa and Magna Cum Laude. His doctorate work on international labour economics was under supervision of W.A. Brown, Professor and Chairman of the Cambridge University Economics Department. Dr. Abeln served from 2007 through 2011 as a member of the Faculty of Management at the University of Cambridge, and as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Cambridge Executive Education, a wholly owned subsidiary of the University of Cambridge which partners in the development and delivery of multi-disciplinary education for private and 7

public sector organizations and professionals. At the University of Cambridge, Abeln was the Deputy Dean (Deputy Director) of the Cambridge Judge Business School and was appointed by Dr. Arnoud De Meyer, now President of Singapore Management University. Abeln successfully initiated and developed the university s new Executive MBA with an innovative curriculum, one of the first part-time professional degree programs awarded by the University of Cambridge. He introduced a portfolio of 25 new executive education programs and expanded the outreach in custom executive education to include over 60 private and public sector clients. He negotiated contracts with public and private sector clients during his four years at Cambridge. In his role, he has developed leadership frameworks for the university, government and industry sectors with extensive experience in the Middle East, Asia and China. He also taught executive courses and developed curriculum as a member of the Cambridge Faculty in Management in areas including strategic issues in corporate finance, leadership, organizational behaviour, human resources and international management. Dr. Abeln negotiated international partnership agreements on behalf of Cambridge to deliver joint programs with institutions throughout the world including Hong Kong University (corporate finance), Peking University (mergers/acquisitions), University of California Berkeley (health administration), IBS Moscow (international management), Thammasat University (human resources), New York University (finance), Nyenrode (corporate governance), Tsinghua University (international management), among others. He developed leadership projects for the United Nations, Royal Dutch Shell, Rolls Royce, China Mobile, the Government of Qatar, ICBC, the Bank of China and Citic, and many others. During his four years at Cambridge he was responsible for initiating and implementing over 150 partnerships with public and private sector organizations. From 2004-2007, Dr. Abeln served as Associate Dean at The University of Texas at Austin School of Business. He was responsible for five of the school s MBA programs with a degree enrolment of 800 and a portfolio of over 50 Executive Education open enrolment and custom courses. Abeln taught International Management course for the MBA. He also led the school s initiative to construct a $135million educational and residential facility for executive education. From 1999-2001, Dr. Abeln was the Associate Dean at Georgetown responsible for both the MBA and Executive MBA. He implemented a new program curriculum, increased applications by 60 percent and introduced academic technological improvements to the teaching and learning experience. Under his leadership, the Executive MBA ranked in the top ten in Business Week. 8

Dr. Abeln was appointed the Director of the MBA at the MIT Sloan School of Management. During each of the five years under his leadership, the MIT MBA program ranked among the top five in U.S. News and World Report. He negotiated an agreement with America Online which made MIT the first business school with an online alumni network and developed continuing educational and career development opportunities for graduates. Dr. Abeln served as the Executive Director of one of the leading interdisciplinary research centers at MIT. He represented the centre to develop relationships between academia and industry in key projects including measuring collective intelligence, the collective intelligence genome, collaborative innovation networks, and co-laboratories utilizing the tools of crowd sourcing to formulate solutions to business and societal problems. Dr. Abeln has written on the trends in graduate management education and has extensive experience in the media as an economic and financial commentator with over 100 interviews. He has been quoted in The New York Times, The Financial Times, Wall Street Journal, The London Times, The Independent and other international publications. He has appeared on ABC, CBS and NBC television and radio affiliates. Dr. Abeln served on the Board of Directors of The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Enterprise Forum and a member of the Board of the MBA Enterprise Corps. Dr. Abeln has also been the founder of three companies with over $50million in transactions. He was a founding core team member of the Shell Project Academy in project management and has worked with many global corporate clients across industries to develop and deliver management education.
