58 th FEIBP Congress EDINBURGH, Scotland 7-9 September 2016 Radisson Blu Hotel 80 High Street The Royal Mile Edinburgh EH1 1TH eurobrush.com
Welcome to Scotland The FEIBP is holding it s 58th congress in Edinburgh, a beautiful city in Scotland, United Kingdom, which is a completely different location to Salento, Italy, where we stayed last year. This is what makes Europe so unique, different countries, different locations, different climate, different languages, but brush makers everywhere! The FEIBP is still repositioning itself, we have launched a new website and are ensuring that our congresses have interesting topics and time to network. The working groups for Technical Brushes, Hygiene Brushes and Paint Brushes are striving to set rules and standards that affect nearly all European producers and help to protect their products. We have changed the format of the Brush Forum to give all of the suppliers and customers more effective time during the congresses. This should all attract more people to come to our congresses to see and feel our European brush industry, which has more or less become a European family over the years. This was perfectly shown at this year s Interbrush Fair in Freiburg where the FEIBP had a combined stand with the German Brushware Federation and the ABMA, our friends from the USA. Global networking is becoming more and more important, especially for a small industry such as ours. I want to thank Pamela and Philip Coward of Hill Brush for organizing this year s congress. Without a national federation in the background, it is hard work to organize an event such as this. You did an excellent job, and I am sure that we will enjoy our stay. Thorsten Stollberg FEIBP President 3
A Warm Welcome to you all It is a pleasure to welcome so many friends from the brush industry to the 58th FEIBP Congress in the United Kingdom. We chose the city of Edinburgh for the congress because it is the capital of Scotland, has great cultural heritage and is also one of our own favourite cities. We would like to thank our many sponsors for their generosity in supporting the congress and the federation. Without the sponsors, it would be difficult to organise a congress, and we would urge you all to visit the Brush Forum which has become an important part of the congress, on Friday morning. The brush industry has experienced some difficult times in recent years, but from the attendance and the overall success of this year s Interbrush Exhibition, it seems that the industry is flourishing. We are very pleased to welcome so many first time attendees, and we hope that you will all be encouraged to come to the congress in Germany next year. We hope that you will take part in all of the events which we have organised for the congress, especially the Highland Games team building event on Friday afternoon. Even if you do not want to take part, do come as a supporter. The congress offers great opportunities for networking, and we are sure that you will all enjoy your stay in Edinburgh. FEIBP Award 9 th FEIBP Innovation Award The Innovation Award promises to be one of the highlights of the 58th FEIBP Congress. The main aim of the Innovation Award is to inspire those companies who are directly (or indirectly) involved in the brushware industry and encourage them to share their most recent and innovative products. The annual FEIBP Congress is the ideal platform to showcase these innovators of our industry and reward their hard work and dedication. FEIBP Award Nominations Edward Jackson Ltd. UK Jackson Helix Thermo-bonder Paint Roller Winding Machine Mechanical innovation: new extrusion system for bonding paint roller fabric to core tubes. Electronic innovation: integrated control of extruder for applying resin, tube-handling motors. HMI interface for product options, diagnostics and remote Intranet monitoring. Environmental innovation: reduction of power consumption and no use of epoxy adhesive or flames. Ebnat AG (Switzerland) Product line INSPIRE This dual bristle tuft is fine and chemical resistant making it a major innovation. Regardless of whether these bristles are dirty or wet, you can wash and blow-dry them and the bristles always return to their original form. Due to this unique quality, a guarantee of 6 years can be given. Boucherie Borghi Group (Belgium/ Italy) PTt Technology for anchorless brushes The PTt process is new for manufacturing anchorless (tooth) brushes. Simpler than existing processes as no overmoulding of filaments are used. Pre-moulded handles are applied with pre-cored holes for the filaments. Design advantages include more compact brush heads. Product quality is better than what can be achieved with conventional anchor technology. More material choices for the handles are possible. These innovations will be presented at the opening session of the congress and at the Brush Forum. All delegates are entitled to vote and the winner is to be announced at the General Assembly. 14 15

Edinburgh An insight into this beautiful, historic city Edinburgh has a long and intriguing history and is one of the most exciting cities in the whole of the United Kingdom. Edinburgh became the capital of Scotland in 1437 and gained city status in 1889. During the Iron and Bronze ages, stone settlements scattered the Pentland Hills which overlook the Edinburgh of today. There were also inhabited areas around the future site of Holyrood Palace and Craiglockhart Hill. Over time, the Castle Rock was probably the most used lookout post, guarding against invasion from the north. Up until 1018 the area was part of The Din Eidyn translated as Edwin s Fort and over time became Edwinsburch and later Edinburgh. was formed. During the harshest winters of the past, the Nor Loch became entirely frozen and many works of art can be found depicting people walking and skating on the ice. Incidentally, as Edinburgh and indeed the whole of Scotland still suffer long winters, the city is one of the largest consumers of snow shovels. When Edinburgh became industrialised, it earned the nickname Auld Reekie and Leith became a bustling whaling and trade port. Over time Leith grew to be one of the more exclusive areas of the city. Glasgow soon overtook Edinburgh s industrial scale, but Din Eidyn became and remains Scotland s cultural epicentre and of course, the nation s capital. By the 12th century, Edinburgh was an established settlement along with Holyrood to the East. The port of Leith soon prospered and in 1603 the first Parliament of Scotland was formed, which convened in Edinburgh Castle s Great Hall. Following the Jacobite rebellion Edinburgh was expanded in honour of King James VI and the Royal family. With the king s flag as a template and the Royal s names as inspiration, several new streets were constructed, including Castle Street, George Street and Princes Street. Later, the Nor Loch was drained and the New Town 18 Edinburgh High Street 19
