Welcome 8 th Grade Parent/Student Meeting September 14, 2015

High School Choices ACT Magnet High School Open House December 16 th, 2015 6:30 P.M Application Bolton High School- Bolton, CT E.O. Smith High School-Storrs, CT Ag-Ed Program Open House December 9 th, 2015 6:30-8:30 P.M Application Windham Technical High School-Windham, CT Open House November 5 th, 2015 6:00-8:00 P.M.\ Application

High School Information Night December 1, 2015 6:00-8:00 P.M. ACT High School, Bolton High School, E.O. Smith High School, and Windham Technical High School will be given the option to make a short presentation on what the high school has to offer. After the presentations, each high school will host its own information table.

8 th Grade High School Visit A one day field trip will be planned in lieu of shadowing. January 29, 2016

High School Open House Each receiving high school will host an Open House for all incoming freshman. A notice will be mailed home to parents/guardians from each high school regarding dates and times. Also, as soon as information is available, it will be in the weekly HWP Newsletter. Parents and students are encouraged to attend these events for a school tour and to speak with school personnel.

Individual Planning Will take place in early March Parent and Student Participation Morning, Afternoon, and Night Appointments Teacher Recommendations

8 th Grade Advisor Graduation Class Trips Fundraising

Graduation Graduation Ceremony will take place at E.O. Smith High School on the last day of school at 4:00 P.M. There are no tickets to this event and seating is first come first serve. Caps and Gowns (Approximately $20.00) Graduation DVD Graduation Dance Parent Led Activities

Holiday Hill The 8th grade class will spend an all day fun day at Holiday Hill, located in Mansfield, CT. The resort provides a wide variety of sport activities, has a beautiful pool, tennis and basketball courts, and Lunch/Snacks will be provided. The cost of this trip will be incorporated into the total money needed for the over night trip. The individual cost is $30.00 per student.

Trip to NYC 2 Day trip to New York City Includes Transportation, 1 Breakfast, 2 Lunches, 1 Dinner, Madame Tussaud s Wax Museum, Tour of the United Nations, 9/11 Memorial and Tribute Center, New York Harbor Cruise, Broadway Show, and overnight accommodations at the Courtyard Midtown East (also security guard stationed in hallway) Total Cost- TBD, based on Broadway Show tickets

If there is a financial hardship, funding can and will be provided to your child if he or she is willing to work at all of the fundraisers. Please contact Mrs. Polakowski with concerns no later than October 2 nd, 2015. IMPORTANT!!! If your child will not be attending the class trip to New York City, please notify me in writing by October 2 nd, 2015. If I do not have written confirmation that your child will not be going on the trip tickets for him/her will be purchased and you will be responsible for the total cost of the trip.

Payment Payment Plan Fundraisers Student Accounts

Payment Plan Payment: Due Date: $150.00 (required Deposit) October 2 nd, 2015 $100.00 November 9 th, 2015 $100.00 December 7 th, 2015 $100.00 January 25 th, 2016 Each 8 th Grade Student must have a total of $150.00 in his/her individual account by October 2 nd, 2015. This deposit must be accounted for by that date to reserve a spot for you child on the trip. Each student must have a total of $450.00 in their account by January 25 th, 2016

Fundraisers 8 th Grade Reader s Digest Magazine Sale 4 Scheduled Middle School Dances 1 Butter Braid Fundraisers 1 Frozen Cookie Dough Sale Holiday Wreath Sale Pasta Dinner and Silent Auction 8 th Grade T-Shirt Fundraiser

Working Events Student Work Students are given the opportunity to sign up to work shifts at various fundraisers. Each student is credited $5 per hour, with the total credited to the student s individual account. Parent Work Parents who work any fundraising events will be credited $5.00 every event worked. Those parent who chair the bigger events will be credited $5.00/hour during the event. All credits will be applied to individual student accounts.

General Fundraisers All monies raised at these fundraisers go into the General Fund of the 8th grade class. Some fundraisers that are considered general fundraisers are Silent Auction Profit, Dance Ticket Sales, and 8th Grade T-Shirt Sales. Money in this account is divided evenly among all students in the 8th grade, after expenses are taken out. Bills are then sent home to cover the remaining cost of the trip.
