QIAcube Packing Instructions This document describes how to pack the QIAcube before shipping. The packaging should protect the instrument and must be in accordance with these packing instructions. These instructions supersede the information given in Section 4.5 of the QIAcube User Manual, version 1.1 June 2008. Important points before starting Packing and labeling will be checked by QIAGEN to ensure that they are in accordance with these packing instructions. QIAGEN reserves the right to return inadequately packed articles to the sender. Things to do before starting Make sure that the QIAcube is not in use before starting this procedure. Remove reagents and labware from the instrument, clean the worktable, and empty the waste drawer before starting the procedure. The QIAcube must be decontaminated before shipping. For detailed instructions, see Section 6.5 on page of the QIAcube User Manual. Procedure 1. Collect the materials required for packing the QIAcube: Foam rotor-protection disk for the centrifuge Foam transport lock for the robotic arm QIAcube pallet with 4 small foam corners QIAcube cardboard carton Two large foam corners Foam lid (with compartment) Compartment cover Tape Edge protectors and packaging straps (if available) Shipping labels Shipping documents QIAcube Packing Instructions (Nov-09) page 1 of 7
QIAcube cardboard carton Large foam corners Pallet with 4 small foam corners Edge protectors Compartment cover Foam lid 2. Make sure that the QIAcube door is closed and switch on the QIAcube. 3. If the centrifuge lid is not already open, open it as follows: Press Tools in the main menu. Select Maintenance by pressing or to scroll through the list until it is highlighted, and press Select. Select Open lid by pressing or to scroll through the list until it is highlighted, and press Select. 4. Open the QIAcube door. 5. Carefully place the foam rotorprotection disk on top of the centrifuge rotor. QIAcube Packing Instructions (Nov-09) page 2 of 7
6. Gently press the foam rotor-protection disk down onto the rotor until resistance is felt. 7. Close the QIAcube door. 8. Close the centrifuge lid as follows: Press Tools in the main menu. Select Maintenance by pressing or to scroll through the list until it is highlighted, and press Select. Select the protocol Close lid by pressing or to scroll through the list until it is highlighted, and press Start. 9. Switch off the QIAcube and disconnect the power cord. 10. Open the QIAcube door and insert the foam transport lock into the front of the instrument. QIAcube Packing Instructions (Nov-09) page 3 of 7
11. Press the foam transport lock down between the centrifuge and the robotic arm. 12. Push the foam transport lock until the rear of the transport lock touches the back wall of the instrument. Ensure that the robotic arm is held firmly in place and cannot move. 13. Make sure that the QIAcube door can be closed properly. The door should lightly brush against the foam. 14. Place the documents to be returned into the drawer. Packing list QIAcube quick-start guide QIAcube installation guide QIAcube loading chart 15. Place accessories into the drawer. The following accessories should be packed in air cushion bags: Rotor key USB stick Allen key Shaker rack plugs (set with 12 pieces) Shaker adapter (S2) WARNING Risk of personal injury and material damage The QIAcube is too heavy to be lifted by one person. To avoid personal injury or damage to the instrument, do not lift the instrument alone. 16. Lift the QIAcube and place it onto the pallet. At least 2 people are required to lift the QIAcube onto the pallet. When lifting the QIAcube, slide your fingers under both sides of the workstation and keep your back straight. Note: We recommend wearing work gloves. 17. Gently place the QIAcube into the foam corners at the edge of the pallet. 18. Place the cardboard carton over the QIAcube. Be sure the cardboard carton fits around the foam corners at the edge of the pallet. QIAcube Packing Instructions (Nov-09) page 5 of 7
19. Slide the two large foam corners into the cardboard carton so that they are at the front of the QIAcube. Place the foam lid on top of the QIAcube. Note: The carton was removed in the photo at the left to show how the foam protectors are inserted. 20. Place accessories to be returned into the compartment in the foam lid. Place the compartment cover on top of the compartment. The following accessories should be packed in air cushion bags: Power cords QIAcube User Manual (CD or print version) Tape 21. Seal the outside edges of the carton with tape to protect against moisture. QIAcube Packing Instructions (Nov-09) page 6 of 7
22. Remove old shipping labels and affix new labels to the carton. 23. Secure the cardboard carton to the pallet with edge protectors and packaging straps, if available.
