Health and Safety Standards should be adhered to. All electrical wiring should be carried out in accordance with relevant regulations. Ensure all products are correctly earthed and all connections are made in accordance with the wiring diagram. Non-compliance may result in damage, malfunction or personal injury. 2 Type 1801 External Seahorse Description and Specifications Type 1801 Heavy Duty Pantograph window wiper can be fitted either above or below the window. The drive unit is externally mounted on three brackets. Two mounting options may be implemented, 1) with the motor shaft facing inwards with a straight wiper arm, and 2) with the motor shaft facing outwards with a bent wiper arm. The DC motor has 2 speed operation with self parking. The motor is electrically isolated from the drive unit in order to avoid electrolytic degradation between the wiper system and ship. A spray nozzle option can be fitted on to the arm to deliver water to the wiping area. For protection it is recommended that the wiper system have fuses fitted. The fuses will not blow in normal conditions, however if the wiper is jammed, then the fuses are designed to blow before the motor is damaged. Each wiper requires its own fuse. Fuse values shown below. Self-Parking Position The standard parking configuration for both the inward facing and outward facing drive unit is: to the left for a wiper mounted above the window (looking out). to the right for a wiper mounted below the window (looking out). Heated Motor Enclosure A cartridge heater fitted inside the motor drive shaft is optional. The 30 Watt heater requires a 24volt power supply. xsh_0_2 Iss3 21/01/03-2 -

3 Type 1801 External Seahorse Installation Check for obstructions / hazards before drilling. The wiper system should be mounted at a set distance from the window to ensure wipe blade does not conflict with the window frame. Contact supplier if you change any mounting distances advised by Wynn. All holes are shown for drilling from outside the window. Holes must be de-burred. Fitting the Outward Facing Wiper Drive Unit Refer to the Outward Facing Drive Unit Drawing. 1. The position of the wiper brackets determines the position of the wiper arms relative to the window. The location of the wiper assembly fixing holes to achieve an optimum wipe is shown in the relevant drawing, the holes being relative to the screen edge. 2. Drill from the outside 3 x 11mm mounting holes as shown, either above or below the window. 3. Drill a suitable hole for cable entry at a suitable location. De-burr as required. 4. Fit the three brackets to the drive unit. 5. Fit the drive unit to the bulkhead with suitable bolts and locknuts. 6. Fit the wiper arm and blade to the drive shaft as per instructions below. 7. Pass the drive unit cable through the bulkhead and seal hole with suitable sealant or cable gland. xsh_0_2 Iss3 21/01/03-3 -

The position of the wiper brackets determines the position of the wiper arms relative to the window. The location of the wiper assembly fixing holes to achieve an optimum wipe is shown in the Inward Facing Drive Unit Drawing, the holes being relative to the screen edge. 2. Drill from the outside 3 x 11mm mounting holes as shown, either above or below the window. 3. Drill a suitable hole for cable entry at a suitable location. De-burr as required. 4. Fit the three brackets to the drive unit. 5. Fit the drive unit to the bulkhead with suitable bolts and locknuts. Note: The Arm and Blade should be loosely fitted to the drive shaft prior to mounting the drive unit. See below for Blade and Arm fitting. 6. Fit the wiper arm and blade to the drive shaft as per instructions below. 7. Pass the drive unit cable through the bulkhead and seal hole with suitable sealant or cable gland. 5 Fitting the Blades & Arms 1. Fit the wiper blade and clip onto the arm with the two screws provided. 2. Slacken the arm two shoulder screws. 3. The arms are supplied with jacking pegs to keep the arm spring open. Keeping the jacking peg in position fit the arm onto the spindle, avoiding excessive axial force - hand force is sufficient. Do not use hammer, this will damage internal parts. 4. Align the centre line of the arm with the line engraved across the end of the motor shaft. Tighten one of the shoulder screws. 5. Using the screw provided, attach the slave arm to the support post. Arm Adjustment 1. Remove jacking peg to allow blade to spring onto the screen. The arm should be parallel to the screen (maximum 5º). Before tightening the other shoulder screw, the wiper should be run to confirm the swept area is correctly set. This requires the controller to be installed and wired up to the wiper 2. Once the swept area has been checked, then both shoulder screws should be tightened to 7Nm (5lbf-ft). Electrical Connections Once the drive unit cable has been passed through the bulkhead, connect to an appropriate controller. Where applicable, refer to associated Control Switch drawings for wiring details and mounting dimensions. If supplied, fit controller plate into console and secure using suitable fixings (not supplied) and connect to Drive Unit. Changing Park Position In order to change the park position, remove the crank screw (see Internal Wiring drawing) and remove the adjustable crank from the drive spindle. Replace the adjustable crank to the drive spindle 180 degrees from its original position. Adjusting Wiper Angle of Arc Slacken the angle of arc adjustment screw (see Internal Wiring drawing), move the drive shaft to select the desired arc and retighten. xsh_0_2 Iss3 21/01/03-5 -
