Proliance System Requirements Guide Before You Install Proliance Ensure that servers and client computers meet the following minimum or recommended requirements, and that the correct versions of the following applications are installed and functioning correctly. IMPORTANT: Proliance can run error free on relatively modest equipment under light user and small data loads. However, overall performance is dramatically improved with the appropriate equipment. In addition, many clients are now using virtual images in many aspects of a Proliance installation. Such an environment requires a significantly different hardware profile than listed in this document. A system sizing and layout review with Meridian Systems is highly recommended before undertaking a substantial investment in hardware and software to support a Proliance installation. Proliance Web Server Hardware The appropriate sizing and number of Web servers depend on the number of concurrent users, Web traffic, data loads and many other factors. Minimum The equivalent of Intel Xeon 2 GHz (or higher), 64 bit 2 GB RAM 1 GB free disk space Recommended The equivalent of Intel Xeon W3550, 3.07 GHz (or higher) 8 GB RAM At least 2 GB of available disk space Proliance Web Server Software Microsoft Windows 2008 SP1 (64 bit) Microsoft Windows 2008 R2 SP1 (64 bit) Microsoft.NET Framework 4.0 Microsoft Silverlight 4.0 (required if using the workflow features in Proliance Local Admin) Web Services Enhancements for Microsoft.NET (WSE) version 3.0 Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) version 7 or version 7.5 Microsoft SQL Server 2005, 2008 or 2008 R2 Native Client.* Microsoft SQL Server 2005, 2008 or 2008 R2 Command Line Query Utility (SQLCMD).* Meridian Systems All rights reserved. 1

Database Server Software and Hardware Software Microsoft SQL Server 2005 SP3 (64 bit) Microsoft SQL Server 2008 SP1 (64 bit) Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 (64 bit) Hardware (minimum requirements) The equivalent of 2 Dual-Core Intel Xeon 2.8GHz (or higher) 4 GB RAM RAID array for database data files. The sizing depends on the initial volume of data. Hardware (recommended requirements) The equivalent of 1 Quad Core Nehalem-based Xeon (or higher) 16-64 GB RAM depending on the expected database size 64-bit machines (OS and SQL) A separate physical disk or RAID array for database transaction log files (for example, at least 100 GB) A separate fast I/O disk or RAID for the tempdb database Virtual Environments Proliance Web servers can be installed within a virtual environment. However, virtual environments are not recommended for database installations. The equivalent of Intel Pentium D 3.4 GHz (or higher) 1 GB RAM Limited disk space is required for Proliance client operations. Screen resolution set to 1024 x 768. Recommended The equivalent of Intel Core II Duo T7200, 2 GHz (or higher) 2 GB RAM Lots of free disk space for Windows and IE performance optimization. Screen resolution set to 1280x1024. Client Software Required Windows 7 (recommended) Windows Vista Windows XP Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0 (32 bit) Internet Explorer 8.0 (32 bit) Internet Explorer 9.0 (32 bit) Microsoft Silverlight 4.0 or 5.0 Internet Explorer 8.0 (32 bit) is recommended to support Proliance features that use Microsoft Silverlight. Optional Microsoft Office 2003, 2007 or 2010 Professional Edition Microsoft Word 2003, 2007 or 2010 standalone Java Client Component Requirements Proliance uses of a Java applet called Scheduling (scheduler.jar) that provides a user interface experience not possible with traditional HTML-based applications. Java 6 Runtime Environment (JRE) Proliance is designed to run with version 6 (or any version 6 sub version) of Java, which automatically downloads when required. It is recommended that you run Proliance on clients with the most recent Java 6 version. Java 6 can be downloaded and installed automatically or manually: Automatic installation: http://java.com/, and then click Free Java Download. Manual download and installation (offline and online installers): http://java.com/en/- download/manual.jsp The download occurs via HTTP (i.e., port 80 or 443 for SSL). The applets are signed with a certificate to prove their authenticity. Data Dynamics ActiveX Report Viewer Proliance uses an ActiveX control to run and display various document and summary reports available within the application. This ActiveX control is known as the Active Reports Viewer ActiveX and it is published by Data Dynamics Ltd. The Active Reports Viewer ActiveX control must be installed locally on each Proliance user s computer when first required by the application. This installation requires the appropriate security privileges on the local computer. Client Bandwidth Meridian Systems recommends that you use an Internet connection with a capacity of 1 Mbps or greater to access Proliance. Certain activities on the client machine are dramatically affected by the network speed between the client and the server. Third Party System Requirements These third-party requirements are meant as guidelines for easy reference only. For the definitive requirements, please see the documentation that came with your third-party software. Brava! Enterprise.NET System Requirements Ensure that the servers on which Brava! Proliance Analytics System Requirements In addition to the hardware and software requirements for Proliance, Proliance Analytics is compatible with: Cognos 8.4.1 Cognos 10.1 For a full breakdown of Cognos supported software environments, please consult: http://support.cognos.com/en/support/products/crn101_software_environments.html Use dedicated hardware for Cognos - Cognos places high demands on the hardware it runs on. Installing Cognos on your Proliance server or a virtual server is not advisable. It is best to use a dedicated system for this purpose. SQL Replication To avoid performance issues, avoid using the same SQL Server for both Cognos and Proliance. The use of a dedicated SQL Server along with SQL Server replication provides a performance boost and allows Proliance to remain unaffected while running large reports. Java Java updates can cause issues for your Cognos installation. It is recommended that you disable Java updates on your Cognos server. SharePoint Compatibility Proliance is compatible with the following versions of SharePoint: Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 & MOSS 2007 Microsoft Word and Excel Requirements for Custom Print Layouts As a result of a United States court ruling that prohibits Microsoft from selling versions of Word that include custom XML capabilities, newer versions of Microsoft Word no longer include the ability to create or edit Proliance Custom Print Layout (CPL) documents. Versions of Microsoft Word affected: Versions distributed and purchased after January 10, 2010. OEM versions included on new computers distributed and purchased after January 10, 2010. MS Office Word 2003 that has been updated with the January 2010 Update - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/979045 MS Office Word 2007 that has been updated with the January 2010 Update - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/974631 To create Proliance Custom Print Layouts (CPLs), you must have one of the following installed on your computer: Meridian Systems All rights reserved. 6
Microsoft Word 2003 or 2007 Standard or Professional - ensure that it is not updated with the January 2010 update. Microsoft Excel 2003 or 2007 Standard or Professional - ensure that it is not updated with the January 2010 update. Support for Word 2003 XML Viewer Proliance CPLs created using Microsoft Word 2003 or 2007 Professional can be viewed using Microsoft Office Word 2003 or 2007 Viewer (www.microsoft.com). This viewer ( available as a free download from Microsoft) allows users who do not have Microsoft Word 2003 or 2007 to view Word-based XML documents such as CPLs without the expense of acquiring a full Microsoft Word 2003 or 2007 license. Office Business Apps (OBAs) Proliance Office Business Apps (OBAs) are solutions that further integrate Microsoft Office applications and Proliance. Using Proliance OBAs, users are able to access, input, and modify Proliance documents using familiar interfaces such as Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
