Wyboston Lakes Job Application Advice Human Resources 2015/2016

WYBOSTON LAKES Job Application Advice Application Preparation An Introduction We are regularly looking for individuals with excellent customer service to join us. Hospitality industry experience is very useful, but more than this, we would like people with the right attitude, who are completely comfortable in delivering the very best customer service consistently to our customers and clients. We want to exceed their expectations. If you are genuinely helpful to people, have excellent attention to detail, are reliable and hard-working, do send us your details. We particularly look for a great smile. Making an application Whether you are responding directly to a advertisement in the paper, on a job board or via wybostonlakes.co.uk or speculatively offering your application for potential future opportunities; we would love to hear from you. Getting started We want you to put the best YOU forward. Therefore, we strongly recommend that you prepare everything you need first, before starting the application process. Whatever preferred method you select to make an application with us, the information we require will be the same. Here is an outline of the information you will need: Personal contact details Employment history Education background Two references Eligibility to work in the UK Driving convictions* Criminal convictions* Equal opportunities * if appropriate

Making an application We offer two simple ways to make an application, for either a current or speculative opportunity with us. One : [Submit] an online application directly to the HR Team. "Opportunities" HR Team Wyboston Lakes Ltd Wyboston Lakes Hotel Great North Road Wyboston Bedfordshire MK44 3AL Two : [Download] a paper application and post to the HR Team. www.wybostonlakes.co.uk Waiting for a response Once we are in receipt of either your paper or online application, we aim to review the application within two weeks. Should you not hear from us within two weeks, unfortunately, that means your application has not been successful on that occasion. Making the shortlist If you have been shortlisted for an opportunity, we would normally arrange an interview within two weeks - depending on your availability. When we contact you, we will ensure that we explain the interview process in detail, so you can prepare.

Careers FAQ How will I know if my application is received? You will receive an automated response and acknowledgement. If we intend to progress your application or have any questions, we will be in touch with you. You ask for proof of right to work in the UK, what do you mean? We are only permitted to employ people who are eligible to work in the UK and any job offer is subject to this proof. Before we can enter your details on our payroll, we will need to see the original of your proof, which could be a UK or European birth certificate, your passport, or work permit etc. You ask on the form how we heard of the vacancy, why do you ask this? We like to know this information so that we can review our recruitment processes. We also have an employee referral scheme, so if you were referred to us by a member of staff, when you have successfully completed six Please put their full Do you provide staff accommodation? No, unfortunately we do not. Do you provide uniforms? In some positions it is a requirement to wear a specific uniform, and this will be advised. Will I need my own transport to get to your site? We are situated just off the A1, outside St Neots, so it is very easy to reach our site by car and there is parking available. There is a bus service to nearby and it is possible to cycle from St Neots. We are not within walking distance of St Neots station and it is quite a long walk from the centre of St Neots. What are the benefits? By applying for our Privilege Card, there is discount in our Waterfront Restaurant and Bar, Y Spa and at Wyboston Lakes health Club. There is discount for golf and for holding your own events or staying on site and a health cash plan available. People who are working a shift longer than 5 hours, may be able to have a free meal usually after our guests/delegates have dined and might not always be available. although this is We do our best to develop and train all our people and give annual performance assessments and discussion of training plans.

Do you offer bonuses? Nearly all our people are in a specific team and each of our teams has a target for customer care feedback. If you exceed your quarterly target, you are awarded a small financial bonus. Customer care is very important to us so we gather feedback from our trainers, delegates and hotel guests at every opportunity. What do I wear for interview? A smart appearance is very important at Wyboston Lakes. We would expect people to be smart, for administration or management duties you may be wearing a suit of standard business attire, for Food & Beverage or kitchen roles, we would just expect you to be clean and smart with tidy hair. Jewellery and make up should be conservative. Will I be tested at interview? You may be. For some roles we use personality profiling before or at interview, but this is only part of the selection process. For roles working in our Operations team, for example in our kitchens or restaurants, there would be a work trial on a shift. For spa therapist roles there is a practical demonstration of skill. For administration or roles involving the pc, there may be a data entry test or similar. For managerial or sales jobs, you may be asked to give a short presentation at second interview. We are trying to find out as much as we can about candidates and how an individual works in order to ensure we select the right person for the specific role. You can email your CV to hr@wybostonlakes.co.uk. We will still need the same information, full contact details, education, qualifications, salary and work history with specific dates. A PDF version is preferable. The role says 5/7 days a week, what does this mean? A very large number of our jobs here are shift work and if you are full-time, you would be expected to work any five out of the seven days in a week. Our rota is issued weekly. Does the role involve weekend work? We are open 7 days a week and are busy at weekends. If the role is classed as shift work or 5/7 days a week in the advertisement or on the job description, it will involve regularly working weekends, maybe one day maybe both days. Do you pay overtime for weekend or evening work or hours worked after midnight? No, unfortunately all work is flat rate, this means it is the same hourly rate regardless of the hour of day or day.

Where will my interview be held? We have two conference and training centres on site as well as the hotel and your interview may be held at any one of them. HR will tell you where your interview is, either by letter, email or telephone call. Please be sure to turn up at the right centre by the right time. There are direction signs on site, but you may like to look at our site plan. On arrival, let the receptionist know your name and who is interviewing you. If you find you are running late, please do give either HR or Reception a call so that we know whether or not to wait for you. I have completed the application, criminal convictions and equal opportunities forms. What happens with the forms? The application form is read by HR and a copy passed to the relevant manager. We then compare the information against our requirements for the role and begin our interview shortlist. The criminal convictions form is held confidentially and only considered if you are shortlisted. The equal opportunities form goes elsewhere as we do not use this personal information about you in the interview process, we just use it to collect data and ensure we meet our Equal Opportunities Policy. Can you give any tips on how to give the best impression with your application? Read the criteria we are looking for and outline how you meet them. If the role involves any form of data entry eg. Reception, Reservations, Accounts, Sales, or written communication to customers, do double check your application for spelling and grammar. A high level of accuracy is essential in these roles. If supplying a cover letter, do outline why you wish to work in hospitality or for Wyboston Lakes. (We do receive a few saying why they want to work with children or animals If the role requires working 5 days out of 7, do outline where or when you have done this before, or if you have not, show you have given careful consideration to how this will fit in with your life. Do write the exact dates of your employments and explain any gaps. Will I be able to park when I come for interview? Yes, we have plenty of parking on site at each of our centres. Do you offer unpaid work experience opportunities? Yes, but only as part of a formal education course. We receive a number of applications each year but we do have a limited number of opportunities.
