II. Find the video you want. 1. Open any Web browser window. In the address bar, type in library s home page address: www.spl.org 2. Next, click on the Catalog link to go to the library s catalog. You can search for downloadable videos in a two different ways 1. To search for a specific title or type of downloadable video a. Use a keyword or title search to find downloadable videos b. Next, limit your search results to only Downloadable Videos by clicking on Movies & TV and then checking the box next to Downloadable Video Revised 6/2013 Page 2
2. To browse for all downloadable videos a. type in downloadable video as a keyword search. b. Downloadable Video will be automatically selected. III. Checkout and Download (Or Place a Hold) 1. After you find an item you are interested in, click on the Check OR Availability link to see if it is available. 2. Click on Request this Download 3. If you are not already logged into your account, you will be prompted to do so. 4. After logging in, you may have to click on Request this Download again Revised 6/2013 Page 3
If you need to Place a Hold you will see this screen: If you are ready to Checkout and Download you will see this screen: 1. Choose the format (WMV) 2. Choose a checkout duration 3. Click Checkout You will see this message at the top of your screen: 4. Click Click here to download it now. Revised 6/2013 Page 4
Or you can click Download Now Click Download now 5. You will see a dialog box appear. Click OK. 6. OverDrive will try to create a default folder for the files. Click OK. Revised 6/2013 Page 5
7. The title should appear in the OverDrive Media Console. Click on the title and then click Play. IV. Transfer to WMV-compatable portable media player 1. Check that your portable media player is compatible: http://www.overdrive.com/resources/drc/ 2. Plug in your device. Click on the Title. Then click Transfer. Revised 6/2013 Page 6
3. The Overdrive Media Console Transfer Wizard will open. Click Next. 4. Select parts to transfer. Then click Next. 5. Wait for tranfer to finish. Then click Finish when done. Revised 6/2013 Page 7
Extra Features Limit by format and available now in Overdrive You can search, checkout and download directly from the Overdrive catalog as well. To limit search results to items available now and by specific format (WMA) or by items that are readily available, you must use the Overdrive catalog. 1. Open any Web browser window. In the address bar, type in library s home page address: www.spl.org 2. Next, click on the E-books & Downloads link to go to the library s e-books page. 3. 4. When you are in the OverDrive catalog, click on Advanced Search 5. Choose a Format. And if you want to download something right away, choose Only show titles with copies available. Then, click Search. Revised 6/2013 Page 9
Check out a hold 1. When a hold is ready for you to check out, you will get an email like this one. Click on the link to the library s main catalog to download your hold. 2. Log In if you have not already logged in. 3. Click on the Digital tab to limit your olds to only downloadable items. 4. Click on Available for checkout to begin the checkout process. 3. 4. Frequently Asked Questions Can I return downloadable videos early? Sorry, no. However, early return from OverDrive Media Console may be available in the future. In the meantime, at the end of your checkout period, all downloaded videos returns automatically. Can I download videos directly to a smartphone or tablet? Sorry, no. However, we do have an alternative video service called Access Video. You may be able to stream Access Video on your smart phone or tablet. I downloaded an.odm file. Is this the video? How do I get the.odm file to play? The.ODM file is not the actual video. However, it is the file that should trigger download of the video file. Depending on your computer s settings, this may not have happened. If you have already installed OverDrive Media Console on your computer, right-click on the.odm file and select "Open with Overdrive Media Console." This should trigger Overdrive to open and your video to download. If this does not resolve your problem, contact us. When I attempt to upgrade my Microsoft Security (step 1B) the Upgrade button is greyed out. Why? The most common reason the Microsoft Security Upgrade button is greyed out is that you are attempting to use a browser other than Explorer. You can t run the update using any other browser. If this does not resolve your problem, contact us. I get an error after attempting to transfer WMV videos to my device. Why? WMV videos can only be transferred to devices that can handle DRM-enabled WMV files.
