Set objectives and provide support for team members Learning outcomes On completion of this unit you will: 1. Be able to communicate a team s purpose and objectives to the team members 2. Be able to develop a plan with team members showing how team objectives will be met 3. Be able to support team members identifying opportunities and providing support 4. Be able to monitor and evaluate progress and recognise individual and team achievement Evidence requirements 1. Working environment There is no requirement for you to be observed/assessed in a work environment. 2. Teaching practice There is no requirement for you to undertake teaching practice. 3. Achieving assessment criteria There must be valid, authentic and sufficient evidence for all assessment criteria. Holistic assessment is encouraged and one piece of evidence may be used to meet the requirements of more than one assessment criterion. 4. Knowledge outcomes There must be evidence that you possess all the knowledge and understanding listed in the Knowledge section of this unit. Unit content This section provides guidance on the recommended knowledge and skills required to enable you to achieve each of the learning outcomes in this unit. Your tutor/assessor will ensure you have the opportunity to cover all of the unit content. Outcome 1: Be able to communicate a team s purpose and objectives to the team members Describe the purpose of a team: Group formation theory (forming, storming, norming, performing), role allocation in groups (e.g. team roles company worker, chairperson, shopper, plant, resource investigator, monitor evaluator, temp worker, computer finisher), difference between groups and teams, synergy, written, verbal and non-verbal communication, relationship between team and achieving organisational goals, organisational ideology. Set smart team objectives with members: Making strategic planning operational, allocation of objectives, negotiation skills, written, verbal and nonverbal communication, action planning. Communicate the team s purpose and objectives to its members: Written, verbal and non-verbal communication, communication networks (e.g. Y, wheel, circle, chains, all channel), organisational practice for disseminating information (e.g. team talks, meetings, newsletters, notice boards, individual reviews).
