Jefferson Parish Department of Environmental Affairs 4901 Jefferson Highway, Suite E Jefferson, LA 70121 Phone: (504) 731-4612 Fax: ( 504) 731-4607 CURBSIDE GARBAGE AND RECYCLABLES COLLECTION And TRASH DROP-OFF SITE INFORMATION FOR THE UNINCORPORATED AREAS OF JEFFERSON PARISH AND THE TOWN OF JEAN LAFITTE Garbage collection services are provided to residences and small businesses with active water meters that are being billed for garbage collection. Vacant lots do not pay garbage fees; therefore, garbage/trash in front of vacant lots will not be collected. Garbage: Jefferson Parish provides for the collection of containerized household garbage twice per week. Each container and contents shall weigh noo more than 75 lbs. In areas where the Parish has implemented automated or semi-automated service, a specific container provided by the parish is the only acceptable container to be used. Recyclables: Recyclables are collected once per week from residential units only. All must be placed inside the cart provided by the parish. items Large Bulky Waste: Items weighing between 75 and 400 pounds and measuring between 4 and 6 feet in length (large tree limbs, large pieces of concrete, automobile engines drained of fluids, bulky furniture) are collected once per week from residentiall units only. White goods: Large appliances are collected once per week from residential units only (limit 4 per address per week). Tires: Automotive and small truck tires are collected once per week from residential units only. (limit 4 tires per address per week). Small businesses may utilize drop-off locations listed below for items not eligible for curbside collection.

CURBSIDE GARBAGE COLLECTION GUIDELINES Garbage should be placed curbside on a Parish servitude immediately in front of one s own property and should not be placed out for collection any sooner than 4:00 pm on the day preceding your regular collection day. Emptied containers must be removed from the curb by noon on the day immediately following the collection day. Garbage must be containerized in cans (with lids) that are no less than 20 gallons or greater than 35 gallons, or in sealed plastic (1.5 mil gauge) bags. Fifty-five (55) gallon drums, paper bags and plastic grocery bags are not acceptable for curbside collection. Containers should be constructed of hard metal or plastic, be watertight and leak proof, with removable lids. The combined weight of container and contents shall not exceed 75 pounds. Bag capacity shall not exceed 30 gallons and filled weight cannot exceed 75 pounds. In areas where the Parish has implemented automated or semi-automated service, a specific container provided by the parish is the only acceptable container to be used. All loose debris such as trash and yard waste, including leaves and grass clippings, construction debris, sheet rock, saw dust, etc., must be containerized. Bins, receptacles or other containers of a permanent nature shall not be kept, constructed or maintained on Parish property between any sidewalk or private property line and the roadway edge or curb within the Parish. Small Businesses --Small business collection is governed by the same services and standards listed above with the following exceptions: Small businesses receiving curbside collection shall be limited to no more than five (5) containers per collection day per business unit. In areas where the Parish has implemented automated or semi-automated service, a specific container provided by the parish is the only acceptable container to be used and may be limited to two (2) containers per unit, per collection. Recyclables, bulky waste, white goods and tires will not be removed from small businesses. These materials may be brought to the nearest Trash Drop-off Site; however, a disposal fee will be charged.

CURBSIDE RECYCLING GUIDELINES Once per week collection of household recyclables from regulation 18-gallon bins provided by the Parish. All materials must be in the bin. Households that generate more than will fit in one bin may obtain additional bins by calling 731-4612. Bins from the previous program are acceptable if they are 18-gallon open topped bins, regardless of the color. Recyclables should be placed curbside on a Parish servitude immediately in front of one s own property and should not be placed out for collection any sooner than 4:00 pm on the day preceding your regular collection day. Emptied containers must be removed from the curb by noon on the day immediately following the collection day. Collection Schedule: East Bank- recyclables are collected on your first collection day. West Bank - recyclables are collected on the second collection day. Materials Accepted: Plastic Containers 1 through 7 Aluminum Cans and Foil Steel Food Cans (i.e. soup, tuna cans) Corrugated Cardboard Boxboard (i.e. cereal, shoe boxes) Paper (newspaper, telephone books, magazines, junk mail, paper bags, envelopes, colored paper, shredded paper secured in plastic bags Materials NOT Accepted: Glass Aerosol Spray Cans Plastic Bags (check local grocers) Styrofoam Containers that held hazardous materials such as motor oil, pesticide, paint

TRASH DROP-OFF SITES All residents using the trash drop off site must show proof of Parish residency in the form of a valid Louisiana State Driver s License. The drop-off sites are available free of charge to residents of unincorporated Jefferson Parish and Lafitte. The fee for residents of Jefferson Parish municipalities other than Lafitte and for all commercial users is: $14 for pick-up trucks $20 for trailers Residents are reminded that these sites are self-service. Debris must be manually unloaded into roll-off containers. Site managers may direct contractors and residents to the Jefferson Parish Landfill for disposal depending on space constraints and the size of the vehicle. For vehicles hauling trailers, the total combined length of the vehicle plus the trailer may not exceed 25 feet. Anything longer than this will be directed to an area landfill. These sites cannot accommodate dump trailers. Materials Accepted: Garbage and Trash Tree and Yard Waste Construction Debris Scrap Metal and Appliances The following items are only accepted from residential customers and only at the Metairie and Marrero locations: Lead Acid Batteries (limit 2 per resident per month) Automotive Fluids (motor oil, antifreeze, gasoline limit 5 gal. per resident per day) Locations: *Metairie* 400 David Drive between Airline Dr. and W. Metairie Ave. *Marrero* 6440 Lapalco Blvd. entrance on Betty Blvd. Meadowbrook Wall Blvd., Gretna one block south of Lapalco Lafitte Treasure St. off Hwy.45 Hours of Operation: Tuesday Sunday 9:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Daylight savings: 10:00 a.m. - 6:30 p.m.

RECYCLABLES DROP-OFF SITES The Recycle Drop-off sites are available to all residents of Jefferson Parish free of charge. Locations: East Bank 400 David Dr., Metairie (Same location & hours as the Trash Drop-off Site) West Bank -500 Seven Oaks Blvd., Bridge City (Progressive Waste Solutions Recycling Container is available 24 hours/7 days/week.) ------------------------------------------------ JEFFERSON PARISH SANITARY LANDFILL The Jefferson Parish Landfill accepts municipal garbage and trash from residences and small businesses in Jefferson Parish. 5800 Hwy. 90 West Waggaman (504) 436-0152 Monday - Saturday 6:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Daylight savings - 6:00 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. Sunday 6: 00-12:00 noon The landfill does not accept discarded appliances, tires or liquid wastes. Scrap appliances may be brought to any of the four trash drop-off sites above. Tires and used automotive fluids may be brought to the Metairie or the Marrero drop-off sites.
